Is she a Russian Blue or have I been ripped off?

Hello MN! Sorry I'm posting for traffic!

I got my beautiful kitten a few weeks ago. I was told she is a Russian Blue. I saw her mother and photos of the Father. However the seller has failed to forward on the family tree I was promised.

To me, she looks like a Russian Blue but I've noticed sometimes I can see she has stripes? Anyone have an experience with Russian Blues or know how I can check?

I suppose it matters if you paid a lot of money for her, but she is gorgeous.

No idea about the pedigree (for our Norwegian, we did get a family tree and her registration certificate with the council or society or whatever it is though). But if you decide you don't want her, I'll take her off your hands ;-) (fingers crossed!)

I got a moggy who is now 5 months old from a local farm, vet is convinced he's a Russian Blue but he isn't pedigree if he has RB in him. He has ghost stripes which have got fainter as hes grown and an smiley mouth. Yours looks pretty authentic to me.

You have a lovely looking cat. Without paperwork you don't have a pedigree cat and shouldn't have been charged for one.

She's gorgeous! She looks a true blue but you'd need the paperwork to prove it.

Some Russian blues have faint stipes as kittens but these fade with age. My parents had one and he looked very similar to your cute kitten. I have two pedigree cats and I was given all the paperwork when I picked them up when I also had to sign paperwork to say that I would not breed my kittens in the future.

I used to have a Russian Blue years ago and she looked just like this. Yours defo has the right face shape for a RB. I'd chase up the seller for the pedigree documents.

She's gorgeous whatever she is!! I have pedigree cats (bengals) and got all the paperwork and family tree information from the breeder when I collected the cat. This is the usual procedure. In my case one is TICA registered by the breeder (got her as an adult) but the other one isn't, I had to provide proof of neutering to the breeder and they would give me some other papers before I could do that (can't remember the exact process) but I didn't bother.

If you haven't had any of this happen then I would suspect your cat isn't a 'pure' breed.

OK - maybe the breeder hasn't gotten around to drawing up the papers yet but they need to be chased on this or she's not registered with the Cat Fancy and you also have paid over the top for an unpapered cat (and if you did want to breed, the kittens would not be pedigree). Chase them up and if they fail to deliver/refund then you would need to report them. She's gorgeous and looks like a Russian Blue to me. They darken as they get older

As mistermagpie refers to above, is it possible you have bought her on the Non-Active Register (perfectly normal for pet cats) and the breeder will forward on her papers when you provide proof of neutering?

My grandmother had a Russian Blue with faint stripes. She had a real personality too, we would never know what mood to expect!

I would chase for the pedigree (family tree) and the registration papers, I've owned two pedigree cats in my life (a Ragdoll and a Bengal) and I had copies of their pedigree, I 'met the parents' and had their GCCF registration papers.

She looks like a Russian Blue though.

I should add that both of my cats were older kittens and had already been neutered.
