Is my cleaner taking the piss?

So - I'm a maths teacher - my cleaner (a much needed luxury as I'm a messy bint) asked if I could tutor her little girl who's struggling at school. I'm mad busy with work and family life but I'm also pretty terrible at saying no and like our cleaner a lot (she's really good!!!) so I said yes! I wasn't expecting her to pay, if the tutoring went on for more than a few sessions I thought I might ask for reciprocal payment if the subject was raised (she could clean for the hour I tutor her child for example). As things have turned out she hasn't ever offered anything in reciprocation for the favour, she's consistently late for the lesson without apology, and was downright rude when I had to rearrange the other day as my little girl was ill and my husband away. I'm loathe to say I can't do it anymore as think she'd have the hump and it took me so long to find a cleaner that works for us - but I can't help but feel a bit pissed off about feeling like she's taking advantage! AIBU?!

KERALA I would actually not call the police. It will escalate it - sometimes these things escalate whatever you do. A quick glance at some other threads (SoftZilla was mentioned Shock) will show you that some people DO NOT operate at the same level as most normal sane rational people (And before I get the same frothers from upthread I AM NOT SUGGESTING SHE IS CRAZY BECAUSE SHE'S A CLEANER/WORKING CLASS/DESTINED FROM A YOUNG AGE!)

Cleaner actually sounds like she will now pursue a 'vendetta' against OP because OP is not tutoring her child for fun.

Halloween is coming up. What are the odds that Op finds her house egged/floured/ink bombed.... Angry by 'kids'?

Get CCTV.

Yonijust · 26/10/2018 10:13

A spyhole with a camera is needed now.

mintyfresh00 · 26/10/2018 10:16

Oh my god how vile

Cjngs · 26/10/2018 10:19

Well done on calling the police. I understand not wanting it to escalate but the alternative is she can threaten you with impunity. Don't let her bully you in to submission.
I can't imagine how this must feel, but surely it is worse to not let the police talk to her. You won't get closure ever and she will laugh at your timidity. The bully wins then.

Toomanytoremember · 26/10/2018 10:21

Bloody hell, definitely police

Boofay · 26/10/2018 10:21

Ring video doorbell. Honestly, one of the best things we've ever bought. Have a look on Amazon.

RudeZebra · 26/10/2018 10:22

I would speak to police and see what they have to say....if you keep the dog poo (outside) they may be able to do a dna test against her dog may be?

Jesus fucking Christ Hmm The outright stupidity of this post is a joy to behold.

Firstly (As a general rule) you cannot get DNA from poo.

Secondly what law/police power do you think the police will use to take DNA from a dog?

Do you watch the news? Budget cuts are cut so far, and forensic labs are so far behind with work that DNA swabs from ABH's are not being sent away, because there's not the time nor money to have them examined. You really think officers are going to be swabbing dog shit put through a letter box? You think anything will be done about this other than checking if any neighbours have CCTV covering OP's front door?

These CSI type programmes have a lot to answer for in adding an extra layer of stupidity on the general public.

Thebluedog · 26/10/2018 10:24

Yes call the police. Even if they can’t prove it was her they will pay her a visit. If things do escalate then it’s better the police know about this incident. If she’s such a vile person to do this it will escalate with, it without the police.

hazykates · 26/10/2018 10:24

Looking at the ring doorbells on amazon - one's half the price of the other - will the cheaper one do the job (for those that might have it)... it's been an expensive week!

RudeZebra poo might not have the best DNA, but intestines shed cells and the last few inches of colon-cells would be on the outside of the poo.

And councils are beginning to DNA dog poo www.gazettelive.co.uk/news/teesside-news/council-decides-test-dna-dog-12453717

so yes, they can.

Boofay · 26/10/2018 10:28

@hazykates We have this one. Works brilliantly.

Ring Video Doorbell - 720p HD video, two-way talk, motion detection, wifi, Venetian Bronze https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B071JF2ZRR/ref=cmswwrcppapi_h4T0BbJW56V6H

hazykates · 26/10/2018 10:30

Thanks Boofay - ordered!!!

florafawna · 26/10/2018 10:31

She's taking the piss and giving you shit!

RudeZebra · 26/10/2018 10:32

RudeZebra poo might not have the best DNA, but intestines shed cells and the last few inches of colon-cells would be on the outside of the poo.

Fantastic. I'll tell the SOCO's I work with day in day out that they're wrong then...

elfycat · 26/10/2018 10:34

You'd better do that RudeZebra because councils can afford to do this for poo-litterers and are getting results.

RudeZebra · 26/10/2018 10:40

Lovely. So that would be included in the link you provided surely?

The link which says....

Forensic testing of dog mess is not cost effective and could fail if challenged in court, says Stockton Council.

Councillors have ruled out using DNA testing to crackdown on dog-fouling and identify irresponsible dog owners.

That one?

Or are there actual results from this other than councils putting out press releases stating they're planning on doing this in an attempt to get people to clean up after their dogs?

elfycat · 26/10/2018 10:57

You're right, not the best article for it, but www.localgov.co.uk/Council-hails-success-of-DNA-dog-poo-testing/40538 that might be better for you. Sorry there were so many that came up I cut and pasted the wrong one. Thanks for asking for clarification.

Anyway not to derail the thread any longer.

YearOfYouRemember · 26/10/2018 11:02

Not escalating because she will do worse is the same as giving in to bullies. She deserves all she gets. Stupid woman.

Boofay · 26/10/2018 11:05

@hazykates 👍🏽
Ring's customer service is excellent too. If you can't wire your doorbell in, you can charge it. The only thing I will say is that my doorbell needs charging more than it says it does. But that's the only downside. And irrelevant if you can wire it in!

RudeZebra · 26/10/2018 11:08

So that's the article that you're happy with? One from 2 years ago which states

It’s why we will be introducing some sort of enforceable action later in the year – in what guise that will be will be shaped by the outcome of the pilot scheme.’

So....
How's it worked? Surely if this scheme was such a success they'd be an update on how it's worked, how many fines were issued etc. It's not like a council to keep it's successes under wraps surely?

Like I said before, are there actual results from this other than councils putting out press releases stating they're planning on doing this in an attempt to get people to clean up after their dogs?

Since there were "so many" which came up, you'll be able to find one surely?

CallMeRachel · 26/10/2018 11:10

Okay so she's absolutely proven crazy.

Make sure your neighbours know that she is no longer your cleaner and if seen they should let you know immediately. Yes to cctv, ring door bells are ok, I'm not sure if they record though or just transmit live footage?

I'd also speak with your HT at school just in case she tries going down a malicious route that direction too.

ZoeZebra1 · 26/10/2018 11:21

Wow this all escalated quickly!

Whatthefoxgoingon · 26/10/2018 11:29

Crazy lady!

Get your doorbell wired in. One of my friends has that doorbell linked above, seems to work well and she can check the camera from her phone anywhere. She pays a subscription to record the video feed I think.

Theyprobablywill · 26/10/2018 11:59

Can you really not get DNA from poo? I always thought that there would be digestive stuff in poo so getting DNA would be easy!

Binglebong · 26/10/2018 12:04

Here's hoping the cleaner isn't on here so doesn't know you can't get DNA from poo!
