To ask if some houses are unlucky/give bad vibes?

I don’t believe inanimate objects can be ‘unlucky’ or ‘negative’ but starting to think there’s something a bit off about my house.

Bought it five years ago after being in three generations of the same family since is was built in the 1950s. Ex-council, nothing unusual about it, it does sit at an odd angle to the street e.g sits north west to south east but I’ve had the most extraordinary run of ‘bad luck’ since moving here!

My life, five years from moving in is totally unrecognisable - illness, pregnancy loss, career loss, money problems, family illness, losing friends, relationship breakdown, random accidents. Pretty much the works. Nothing is interlinked either i.e job loss was due to bullying rather than illness. It’s almost like I’ve been living someone else’s life by accident!

It sounds nuts, I know, but wondered if anyone else has had a run of bad luck in a particular place?

Any ideas what I could do to improve things with the house, even just to shake off the ‘unlucky’ feeling (moving not currently an option)

I feel a bit like this with our current house. Since moving in it’s just been one thing after another and I’ve not settled at all. We’ve been here nearly a year now and the ‘home’ feelibg has never arrived. It’s a great house but.... I can’t put my finger on it!

Artofhappiness · 23/10/2018 14:30

Thanks Mama, I’ve wanted to post about it for ages but it sounds a little nuts. Hope your new house does start to feel like home soon!

Yes the house we used to live opposite to. A couple lived there for 25 years. Apparently they were lovely and very happy. They sold and 'lovely' couple moved in. She was a sweetheart. He was pummeling her on a regular basis. DH came home one night and heard her screaming. Called the police and went over with the dog. He was beating the crap out of her. The other neighbor who is an ex marine took care of him. She was able to divorce him. They sold the house to the next couple. Two years later they divorced and sold the house. Next couple moved in, three years later they divorced and sold the house to the next unsuspecting victims. That house is bad news as far as I'm concerned.

Move Op.

easielouisie · 23/10/2018 14:33

It's really odd but after reading your post, I'm experiencing the same thing. Myself and DP moved into this house 9 months ago and have had nothing but awful luck (several hospital visits, cancer scare, unwanted pregnancy, theatre and months of depression, lost a job). He's always disliked the house but he's a bit 'spooky', his whole family is and I don't really buy into it but he's had some odd experiences here, I have too and I don't really believe in spirits.

Move or bless the house? I'm not religious at all but DP is and he felt better after, even if its just in his head.

Maybe we are cursed, if we move ill let you know if life improves Halloween Wink

My daughter is in the box room and it has a strange "cold" vibe! No idea why!!!

florafawna · 23/10/2018 14:35

Yes! My last house!

Artofhappiness · 23/10/2018 14:36

Oh want2b that’s awful

Thanks easie - I’m not alone then! I thought about contacting a priest but I’m not religious and there’s no ghostly type goings on or bad atmosphere. Would the church help in this situation?

A friend of mine is currently selling her haunted house, she says it’s all positive spirits (not the gin type) but it has an annex and she does go through tenants and is currently going through a nasty divorce. It was empty for a while before they bought it, shame really as it’s a beautiful house hopefully the new owners won’t have any issues (when it sells)

mostlydrinkstea · 23/10/2018 14:44

Yes a priest can come and bless the house. I've done a few.

easielouisie · 23/10/2018 14:45

Sorry I'm not sure how the church deals with those kind of requests but from what DP has said it's not that unusual for them to be asked to bless a house, so I really would just inquire if it'd make you feel better.

On a less spooky note, after a stream of bad luck we learn to expect the next thing and wait. I've often wondered if I help to bring stuff on because in my head I'm adamant that something else will obviously happen because we're just unlucky now. I'm trying to 'enjoy the smooth'. Maybe we need different mindsets too Flowers

And I'm sorry for all the crap you've been through, I feel for you.

roboticmom · 23/10/2018 14:47

I've seen some of my more 'hippy' friends on facebook smudging with sage when they want to purify their home from bad feelings (or funny smells). I think it seems a nice way to start fresh again.

Artofhappiness · 23/10/2018 14:48

One thing I’ve noticed is that I feel much more myself on holiday or when staying with family. Don’t know if that’s just normal though!

Villanellesproudmum · 23/10/2018 14:49

Easier my friend has had a medium come around and waft some sage and salts around. Seems to have helped but some strange stuff does happen there (when I house sat the kettle used to randomly come on and lots of sudden drafts from unknown sources) , maybe you could try the same??

flamingofridays · 23/10/2018 14:50

some houses definitely have an atmosphere don't they. We've viewed houses where we walked in and it was like Nope. Cant live here. Beautiful houses but just felt cold, or unwelcoming, even a bit sinister. dps parents house is like this, and honestly I think its because of what goes on behind closed doors. Sounds bizarre but the house sees it all if you know what I mean.

I am convinced our current house has a (not scary or nasty) ghost but it doesn't feel cold or unwelcoming. It actually feels more welcoming as the years go by, but we're moving soon and I hope the next owners look after it like we have.

it was left half finished and empty for a year before we moved into it and it certainly felt a bit.... sad when we moved in. I like to think the atmosphere has changed as we have done it justice.

I wouldn't like to live in a house where something bad had happened in recent times, though.

yes, you could call a priest. don't have to see a ghost to think there is bad feeling there.

Ellisandra · 23/10/2018 14:50

@Want2bSupermum see, I would tell that story a totally different way.

There’s a house on my road where a couple lived happily for 25 years. The next couple seemed happy but it turned out he was a violent bastard - but he was exposed in that house, and happily for his wife she’s now free. Two more couples have since separated whilst living there. So that’s two more people who have found the courage not to stay in a bad relationship. We all believe that the house is blessed by the original long and happy marriage.

Artofhappiness · 23/10/2018 14:52

Thanks all, it’s good to know I’m not alone. Think I’ll contact the local church and ask if they might do a house blessing. It could help change my mindset. I’ve checked all the obvious things that could be ‘wrong’ with the house physically like the boiler and what not.

RedDrink · 23/10/2018 14:53

Aren't there people who "cleanse" houses?

And I absolutely believe that some houses are just off or even parts of an otherwise normal house.

There was always something weird about my old rentes house in my home country...but after being shown 2 meh houses and 2 scary houses before, one with a basement with creepy stairs that even the estate agent wouldn't walk down...the last one looked really good by comparison. It was such a good deal too. 😒

RedDrink · 23/10/2018 14:54

*rented

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 23/10/2018 14:54

Oh defiantly. When I was property hunting one particular property I viewed just didn't welcome me at all.
Whereas as soon as walked into my then future home. It was as though I'd lived there all my life. Even before I looked around I had already decided

averageisgood · 23/10/2018 14:55

I once moved into a house as a student that just gave me bad vibes when I went to see it. I moved in, tried to shake off the feeling. Turned out it was haunted. Very very frightening. Even my sceptic house, ate admitted he couldn't ignore it. Doors flying open, footsteps on the stairs, distinct odour, the works

bigKiteFlying · 23/10/2018 14:55

We never settled in last house - our first bought one and had endless bad luck there.

I don't think it was the actual house - though it was a money pit and a source of stress to us. Just time of our lives - like you lots of unconnected things - didn't help we had an awful neigbour that seem to take glee in any misfortune we had.

We tend to blame the whole town despite having met a few wonderful people there - wasn't friendly to newcomers and a bit of unpleasant atitude hard to explain but people living near thought similar.

new area and within in a week - as soon as DC got here - this house felt like home.

RedDrink · 23/10/2018 14:55

By weird I mean I always felt like I wasn't alone even though I was, felt uneasy, and it made lots of very odd sounds.

Artofhappiness · 23/10/2018 15:02

I’m googling house blessings and clearings and feeling quite energised now - thank you! I’ve felt quite helpless about it really. Like flaming says I guess houses do see it all and not beyond the realms of possibility that bad luck or energy or something gets absorbed. I do remember having the strangest dream the first night we moved in. I could see people going about their business in the house and could smell cooking, someone was saying this isn’t your place, you don’t belong here. Hasn’t happened since but did stick in my mind for a while

MamaLovesMango · 23/10/2018 15:08

Our last house was most definitely haunted but so friendly and welcoming. As soon as I was over the threshold I was calm, happy and at home. I’ve met previous occupants and they experienced the same. It’s very strange. I’ve actually been quite down about it.
