...to buy Christmas presents from Aldi's wtf aisle

What the title says really. I really love Aldi and their wtf aisle every week. I've since converted my husband who is now equally if not more excited at the workshop range of goodies.

Anyways they've got some great pots, and candles and quilts which I think would make great presents but would people judge me as cheap? (Last year the Christmas desserts I've taken to my in laws have always gone down well and they only eat m and s)

Grin WTF aisle.

I love Aldi and I definitely love searching through the random baskets of shit. You just don’t get that anywhere else, well except Lidl. I don’t think anyone worthwhile knowing would judge a gift from Aldi, they sell some amazing products.

Dontsweatthelittlestuff · 24/10/2018 18:51

In the summer I stopped at Lidl to pick up a cucumber and found a wonder of wonders called a water broom. Who knew such a thing existed and how had I lived so long without one.

YearOfYouRemember · 24/10/2018 18:52

Do they have huge teddies? The is one in Asda and DH has said he'll buy it for me but it's £25!

MixedMaritalArts · 24/10/2018 19:00

A stroll along “ Scheisse Strasse” don’t mind if I do ! I might have added posh ribbon, a homemade label and a rustic parcel tag to upcycle the gift giving.

mummagirl · 24/10/2018 19:02

We don't have Aldi in Northern Ireland
I get Uber excited when I get to France on my holidays and can visit the aisle of shite

Silverstreaks · 24/10/2018 19:05

It's the Horse Blanket aisle. So named after finding some in inner city London.

But you are def not being U. There are great treasures in Aldi and Lidl. A black marker will take care of the name. Wrap it and gift it.

Another vote for Aisle of Dreams!

Amiable · 24/10/2018 19:19

Love the aisle of shite! I’ve specifically asked for Aldi candles this year after MNers raving about them!

Madcats · 24/10/2018 19:24

Centre aisle finds in Lidl are the safest topic of conversation I have with my FiL (neither of us Aldi nearby, but I do like the fact they do a lot of their wine and Specialbuys online - free delivery)

Just popped on to comment that the Aldi wicker Christmas hampers make great presents. Our inlaws were delighted. Yes, I know the hamper itself probably adds £15-£20 to the cost, but it now holds a big pile of logs near the fire and they work well as places to hide junk when we don't have time to tidy in the warmer months.

Also love the Aldi cast iron casseroles (discovered it on one of our first ever trips a few years ago).

I would rather have a thoughtful token present/something I needed than something expensive that I simply gave away.

@yy558 I personally would be quite happy with presents from Aldi/ Lidl Aisles of Random Crap, and I have bought gifts from there myself in the past. I also buy gifts from Asda, Primark and Wilko Blush

But only you know the recipients of the gifts you are buying.

I am mindful of the threads every year on Mumsnet where people complain that they would rather someone spent £20 on one hand cream than 4 smaller gifts of £5 each.

Obviously if you only have £5 in total to spend on each gift then there's no issue and you'll get more for your money where things are cheaper (and in my view just as nice).

Cambalamb · 24/10/2018 19:47

Bought some lovely gift bags for bottles in there last year. They came with their own amount of tissue paper and velvet ribbon handles and were dirt cheap. Dressed up a bottle of wine very nicely, danke schon!

Ungrateful grabby people are not worth considering really.

GirlFliesHome · 24/10/2018 19:49

I call it the Aisle of Regret.

Which isn't fair really, because I rarely regret anything I have bought there.

Custardee · 24/10/2018 20:06

Picked up an Aldi brochure today - Littkw Town wooden toys on sale in the Aisle of Shite on sale 25th Oct but WITH PREORDER online :-)

Custardee · 24/10/2018 20:06

Sorry, Little Town

I LOVE The Aisle of Weirdness!

Ironfloor269 · 24/10/2018 20:40

We call it the Aisle Of Man.

willstarttomorrow · 24/10/2018 20:49

Random aisle in this house. It has provided some amazing presents over the years. My posh relatives love good quality German products! Riding, cycling and ski products go down very well. Lidl xmas food gifts are far better than any from an (overpriced) German market.

LakieLady · 24/10/2018 21:06

We call it Aisle of Shite too!

Among our best Shite buys are DP's leather motorbike jacket (the first leather bike jacket he's ever tried on that fit, because he's got broad shoulders and a little waist, the bastard), a folding picnic table that has accompanied us on every camping trip since we bought it 8 years ago and a cast-iron oval roaster with a domed lid.

The last was a triumph. There was nearly a family feud over who got granddad's oval roaster when he died, and DP dipped out. The Aldi one is fab and was only a tenner, nothing else cooks a joint of brisket anywhere near as well.

Thanks to the PP who posted the link above, I have now ordered a 4-seasons king size duvet for an astonishingly small amount of money, especially compared to the £85 John Lewis want for one!

TheWifeofRequirement · 24/10/2018 21:24

I have insider information Blush

New Aldi special buys (the official name for the wtf aisle, or ‘non grocery special purchases’ if you’re feeling fancy) go live on the website on Sunday every single week. When they’re sold out, that’s it. There’s no restocking online so you have to be quick.

They launched a new online toy shop this week which is also special buy stuff but will be there for longer and MIGHT restock certain products that do well.

Their hampers are better value and better quality than Fortnum and Mason’s and they also have a cracking wine offer if you buy 6 bottles in bulk at a time, you can mix and match wine with spirits too.

You can browse the entire aisle of shit online, it’s exactly the same as what’s in store Grin

TooManyPaws · 24/10/2018 21:45

Currently sitting under an Aldi heated sofa throw which I got a couple of weeks ago to save on heating 😁

WoollyMollyMonkey · 24/10/2018 21:55

A heated sofa throw!!! How have I missed that?!?!
