...to buy Christmas presents from Aldi's wtf aisle

What the title says really. I really love Aldi and their wtf aisle every week. I've since converted my husband who is now equally if not more excited at the workshop range of goodies.

Anyways they've got some great pots, and candles and quilts which I think would make great presents but would people judge me as cheap? (Last year the Christmas desserts I've taken to my in laws have always gone down well and they only eat m and s)

Lacura and Cien are fabulous dahling! I spend my money on retinol that is proven and moisturise with a pot of £1.79 q10. Skin has never been better.

When people sneer at Aldi/Lidl, it tells me a lot about that person. who would sneer at great quality(tis German after all) at great prices? I tell you who, snobs!

emwithme · 23/10/2018 20:18

It's officially called the Middle of Lidl now. (Even if it's Aldi)

I can't nip in for a pint of milk without coming out with a two-man tent, a trombone and a petrol chainsaw. But no milk...

If you are buying presents for people you care about and are making an effort then that’s the right thing to do.
My best friends always thinks about my presents and we don’t spend silly amounts for Christmas but it’s the fact that she knows me well. She bought me a fab ALDI candle that I am still using and it was one of my favourite presents

frankie001 · 23/10/2018 20:19

I call it the aisle of bad decisions

BOOOOOOOOOOO! Weary that is such a horrible thing to say. If she knew her friend would love it, why does it matter what it cost? you don't know her budget. Sod off back to Waitrose!

Pimmsypimms · 23/10/2018 20:33

Totally love the aisle of random shite in both Aldi and Lidl!! Kids Halloween costumes are less than half the price of those similar in Sainsbury’s!!
As for Christmas though, not sure about gifts. Decorations, gift wrap/bags etc, definitely, but not sure I’d buy prezzies from there though.

MaisyPops · 23/10/2018 20:36

If they are actual presents that people will want and like them anyone who judges where they're from is an arse.

But if it's "here's some nice tat that looks nice but is just going to be clutter' then personally I'd say not bother. I'd rather have someone spend £10 on something lovely and personal than get me 3 things from the Aldi aisle.

Cambalamb · 23/10/2018 20:39

But if it's "here's some nice tat that looks nice but is just going to be clutter'

That applies to a gift bought anywhere.

I have a fabulous clematis from Lidl which cost £1:99 five years ago. No idea when it's meant to be pruned, as the label just said, "Clematis", but half of one fence is smothered in beautiful pinky-white flowers every year.
And last Christmas, a wonderful three-bird roast, which vanished from the shelves almost immediately.
Picking out the star turns id half the fun!

Zoflorabore · 23/10/2018 20:49

I call it the "aisle of denial" as I always convince myself I desperately need said item and yes Ms Kondo it will spark so much joy etc etc. Then it comes home, never to see the light of day again.

Plus- how much joy can a washing up bowl
spark? I've got a vivid imagination but
I'm not that good Grin

Weary Nasty!

Cambalamb · 23/10/2018 21:23

Thought and cost have nothing to do with each other.

littlemisssunshine81 · 23/10/2018 21:25

DH and I love the Random Shit Aisle! Nothing wrong with buying pressures from there!

MaisyPops · 23/10/2018 21:27

No it doesn't.

If someone bought me a nice craft caddy because I was after one and they saw it in Aldi then that wouldn't be a clutter the place up gift.

If someone buys me a scented candle and bath bomb set then that's the sort of thing that's a waste of their money and becomes clutter (true whether it's aldi or jo malone).

I'd rather someone got me one smaller thing that's nice and suits me than opts to buy 3 things from the random aisle that fall under the 'general gifts to give at Christmas/ stocking fillers' because they were on offer.

I sometimes feel at Christmas the shops push too much of this "number of presents for your money / cheap things to bulk out stockings".

Vinotinto78 · 23/10/2018 21:33

It’s known as the aisle of delights in our house. Love a weekly rummage. So much more exciting than Sainsburgers.

PhilomenaDeathsHeadHawkMoth · 23/10/2018 21:34

What's a wtf aisle? We don't have an Aldi. Envy

scrumpledtitskin · 23/10/2018 21:43

Does no one else call it "what's in the middle at lidl "?
Those aisles are absolutely the best part of aldi and lidl, and definitely appropriate for presents.

BikeRunSki · 23/10/2018 21:44

Ah.... the Mystery Middle Aisle.

I have bought presents from there in the past. If anyone cared, they didn’t say anything.

MaisyPops · 23/10/2018 21:48

bike
As with all presents, if it's something they will genuinely like then it will be enjoyed regardless of where it's from.

If it's random tat and clutter then it's tat and clutter whether it's from the tat isle at Aldi or some artisan quirky pop up shop.

Polkapjs · 23/10/2018 21:54

Oh I love the dangerous middle aisles
Best Buy recently was digital scales for the kitchen £6 of pure joy

BikeRunSki · 23/10/2018 21:55

Philomena In the middle of Aldi shops, their are open baskets of non-food stuff, and it’s themed each week - ski gear; baking; waterproofs; workshop tools etc. Some of it is not much good, sknenig it is great. There are lots of fake Aldi brands -“Crane” is their sportswear brand. The £15 hi vis running jacket is great.
