...to buy Christmas presents from Aldi's wtf aisle

What the title says really. I really love Aldi and their wtf aisle every week. I've since converted my husband who is now equally if not more excited at the workshop range of goodies.

Anyways they've got some great pots, and candles and quilts which I think would make great presents but would people judge me as cheap? (Last year the Christmas desserts I've taken to my in laws have always gone down well and they only eat m and s)

@Monty27 Monty, if you'd ever been to a German cemetery you'd get the grave candle thing. They are simply beautiful!! So much thought, care and respect goes into the graves there. They have gorgeous candles (lit at night), on the graves and walking around you just feel the love and peace that has been created.

Sorry I didn't mean to be disrespectful. It's actually poignantly painful to me at this time.
I shouldn't have related it to Halloween.
Sad

Aisle of Wonder - especially ski gear week. Helmuts, ski goggles & snowboots are particularly good buys!

Lana1234 · 24/10/2018 11:37

Love Aldi’s specialbuy stuff. I’ve got baby things for half the price and some great Christmas presents in the past. Their Christmas hampers are fab and only about £30 if I remember correctly

Ecofluffynanny · 24/10/2018 11:42

@Monty27 oh no!! I didn't for a minute think you were being disrespectful!! I just wanted to share the reason for them...I'd love to see our own cemeteries being cared for like this, but suspect they would be stolen/trashed pretty quickly, sadly 😢

Monty27 · 24/10/2018 12:03

Thanks eco. I know. No respect from some people Flowers

DangletitsMcDougal · 24/10/2018 13:07

I've totally just ordered the wooden dolls house and all the bits from ALDI for me my girls because of this thread...

thanks :)

The sports sunglasses are fab. They were £1 in various colours. i bought 5 for DH and I for running, cycling etc. They bend and if they get lost it doesn't matter. Still got all 5.

Troels · 24/10/2018 15:28

This week they have the Tefal Actifry coming up as well as other kitchen goodies, it's not all crap. Love that place.

YABVVVVVU OP

leave all the best things for meeeee

ankasi · 24/10/2018 15:47

I think they might have the grave candle, because the 1st November is All Hallows, where a lot of people in the South of Germany still go to the cemetery and put down a candle on their relatives' graves.

Honeyroar · 24/10/2018 15:55

I call it the aisle of requirement- like the room of requirement in Harry Potter. It always seems to have random crap I've been needing (or didn't think I needed, but still buy! It's like a real life Lakeland catalogue!

Are people worried about buying it because it's cheap? I'd like to think that my friends would like it just as much as a designer version of the same thing.

yy558 · 24/10/2018 16:08

I only asked because i think my MIL would be horrified with buying Aldi goods for people. I feel like her present should be from Aldi this year for that reason alone 😁😁😁

I honestly think they have some reasonable things in there - like nice looking cheeseboards which I think are a great gift for Christmas!

We love the aisle of bliss in this house! My whole family are proud pressie buyers from Aldi, especially at christmas and Easter (love their chocolate so much) and the kids and I love a good rummage.

Honeyroar · 24/10/2018 16:52

I know what you mean yy. I know people that may turn their nose up at a supermarket brand, however nice it was. Why not buy the Aldi chessboard, add some cheeses and chutney to it and wrap it in Xmas cellophane and a Xmas bow? I bet she'd never know!

WoollyMollyMonkey · 24/10/2018 17:44

I went in last week looking for the £9.99 ladies skinny jeans. They looked really nice in the leaflet, but they’d all gone! Sad Anyone get any?

ReanimatedSGB · 24/10/2018 18:18

I do similar gift-buying bouts in the various pound shops. As PP have said, it depends a bit what you buy and for whom, but our local pound shops often have quite decent mugs, garden bits and bobs, books and chocolates (if you have to do an office Secret Santa you will get more in the way of known-brand sweeties from the pound shop). I've also got perfectly decent socks, scarves and gloves from pound shops. I would steer past the obscure-brand toiletries, on the whole, as they tend not to be very good quality, but some of the stationery, particularly things like diaries, calendars and fancy notebooks, is also good.

ToftyAC · 24/10/2018 18:21

If you are judged for the cost of the gift or where it comes from rather than the lovely gift given then the folk judging are shits and don’t deserve any further gifts.

beanaseireann · 24/10/2018 18:24

I read on Mumsnet that the wtf aisles in Aldi and Lidl are called 'The Aisles of Wonder' Smile

Ilikeknitting · 24/10/2018 18:26

I see your Aldi wtf aisle, and I raise you Wish shopping. I’ve actually bought some bits from Wish, some are not even priced, free but pay the shipping. I’m really pleased with a unicorn necklace and earrings for my 7yo for 90p and she will love them.

I love the Aldi cheese boards and would be more than happy to get one of those.

Random notebooks, trinkets etc less so.

Really aldi is just like anywhere else. If the gift is good and fits the person then it doesn't matter where it comes from. But if it's 'lots of cheap tat that isn't very them' then I could see why lots of random aldi items might get a hmm reaction.

Poodles1980 · 24/10/2018 18:31

Obviously you mean treasure island. The aldi toys are brilliant and they often do play dough sets and I don’t know if you get it in the UK but the le meara seaweed skincare gets serious ratings from beauty buffs.

pollymere · 24/10/2018 18:33

I have a gorgeous dress everyone compliments. I don't mention where it's from...

browneyes77 · 24/10/2018 18:34

I always called it the Broken Biscuit aisle. But WTF Aisle sounds so much better! GrinGrin

Beach11 · 24/10/2018 18:35

I’ve regularly bought the Aldi candles in jars with lids as gifts and the wooden toys are fab. Never had any complaints from recipients and I’m delighted if we receive.
