To ask what people are afraid of with a People's Vote?

Estimates reckon there were nearly a million people at the Peoples Vote march yesterday so support for it is high.

Why is it such a threat to others though?

If you're so convinced Leaving is the right thing to do for the country, why wouldn't you want that to be endorsed now people have a clearer idea of what is to come?

Or is it that you're worried Leave would now lose as it's been made clear there are no upsides?

In which case why do you want to go ahead with it anyway?

If the EU is sooo good, why do countries have to be forced with a big stick to stay in it. What happened to a group of countries just having a trading relationship? Is it men and their egos?

Annandale · 24/10/2018 00:12

Nobody is forcing us to stay. We'll be out on 29 march 2019.

If the EU is sooo bad, why do countries spend so many years fighting to be part of it?

Because just like immigrants fighting to get into the EU/UK, they believe they will be given a crock of free gold/free house/free benefits etc.

And its partly true, they will be.

NarcolepticOuchMouse · 24/10/2018 01:23

I'm not sure the result would change. People were stupid enough to make a drastic decision on little to no information the first time. Having been told their decision was moronic seems to have only made them more determined.

Maidsrus · 24/10/2018 06:29

People are mistakenly blaming austerity and mismanagement on the EU when it’s down to politicians and bankers

Bearbehind · 24/10/2018 07:26

I dont think its financially sensible, in so many ways

walking could you elaborate on just this point.

What elements go you think aren’t financially sensible about staying in the EU - bearing in mind whatever they are need to also counter the known damage to he economy caused by leaving?

They are using every trick in the book to beat us with a stick.

Can you give an example as, as far as I can see they are just enforcing their framework, which we helped to write?

What do you think the EU should have conceded?

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 24/10/2018 07:31

Because it will either end in an increased vote for No (and off we go down the route of a hard Brexit) or if by some miracle Remain won I think there’d be civil unrest, and not just a few people taking a stroll through London.

The ‘benevolent’ eu hasn’t worked so well for Greece has it.

Mrs8

We’re one to read all your posts they would assume you are one of the most well travelled and knowledgeable people on earth...

Alas, If only all voters possessed such profound insight.

10degreestostarboard · 24/10/2018 07:55

Mrs8

Remainer myth number two

‘People have changed their minds since 2016’

Well some probably (and in both directions) have but I don’t think anyone thinks remain would have a landslide victory now.

But again, your famous and precious insight may know better.

Bearbehind · 24/10/2018 07:58

What do you think the EU should have done differently about Greece?

Bearing in mind the UK had been exempted from bailouts so we weren’t going to financially support any action they took.

Oh for goodness sake 10 play the ball not the man.

Bearbehind · 24/10/2018 08:02

10 could you take your sarcasm elsewhere if you’re not going to contribute to the discussion with anything other than bitchy digs.

I’ve literally never seen you make a sensible comment on any of these threads - you just pour out bile.

Mrs8

Not at all - I would imagine you are well known around Europe.

‘Here comes mrs8’ they doubtless day. ‘Fetch the village elder so we can seek her sage guidance on crop rotation and our spat with the neighbouring village’

But mrs8 has no time - such is her breadth of absolute wisdom that she has an appointment in Brussels. They need her vision.

BabyNumberDeux · 24/10/2018 08:07

The EU would accept a reversal on article 50 because we are a strong ally for them, it would however weaken our position within the Union I believe as how could we be seen as fully supportive of it for a long time.

A second vote. Well I am a remainer but the main argument for a second vote is the minor majority - it wouldn't exactly be a landslide if the vote did swing the other way so the same argument would come up again.

The other thing about lies and misinformation from MP's during the vote... well that does happen in most
Elections but I really think those MP's who threw out the biggest lies like Boris and Nigel (who both conveniently stepped back a lot since) should be held accountable, it seems like they are all getting away with virtual murder.

There can be positives from leaving the EU when it comes to trading with other countries, there are some real deals that could be had outside the EU.
It should take 2 whole years to discuss this through. I know it's hard but they need to all negotiate a little bit better with the planets over all best interests in mind.

Maidsrus · 24/10/2018 08:09

The problem in Greece is that no one wants to pay any tax and the Greek govt doesn’t have the controls in place to make them.
