To ask what people are afraid of with a People's Vote?

Bearbehind · 21/10/2018 17:36

Estimates reckon there were nearly a million people at the Peoples Vote march yesterday so support for it is high.

Why is it such a threat to others though?

If you're so convinced Leaving is the right thing to do for the country, why wouldn't you want that to be endorsed now people have a clearer idea of what is to come?

Or is it that you're worried Leave would now lose as it's been made clear there are no upsides?

In which case why do you want to go ahead with it anyway?

I do want a way of building a consensus
And you think voting until you get the result you want will build a consensus? If anything is guaranteed to cause more division its more referendums.

Bearbehind · 23/10/2018 17:40

Have you got a better idea walkng?

Do you think Hard Brexit is what the majority want?

OP posts:
Ta1kinpeace · 23/10/2018 17:45

I do not want another referendum.

I want the Government to grow a pair.
Read the briefing papers produced by their own Civil Servants
and admit that the aims of Brexit are better served by staying inside the tent pissing out

and then get Whitehall to put its house in order and look after the poor and the regions

Walkingdeadfangirl · 23/10/2018 18:02

Have you got a better idea
Yea, how about we actually wait until they have finished negotiating the deal, we can then debate it with some actual facts.
Hopefully it will be soft enough that it will shut up some remainers but hard enough it will shut up some leavers. And when the dust settles project fear can retire and we carry on with life.

If its mostly successful the issue will go away If its unsuccessful people can start voting Lib Dem to try and rejoin the EU, aka democracy.

Bearbehind · 23/10/2018 18:20

walking It's not rocket science to see the choice is between

  • no deal
  • soft Brexit and staying in SM/CU
  • kicking the can down the road with endless transition period

There are no other alternatives

@10degrees

I’m still baffled as to why you think a leave vote would be split. Previously you said folks knew what they voted for, so they must have all voted for one thing.

10degreestostarboard · 23/10/2018 18:42

Therewillbeadequatefood

Because folk like you have spent the last 2 years attempting to divide and conquer by picking off leave voters closer to the fence through threats of economic Armageddon

But you know that already - you are just being deliberately obtuse. Again.

Which is ironic given someone else had to ride to your rescue to remind you what the recent organised walk was actually for.

mummmy2017 · 23/10/2018 19:07

Rejoin is for when leave find out they can't stop us leaving and that the EU won't stop Brexit...

mummmy2017 · 23/10/2018 19:08

Sorry that should be remain find out we have to leave.

ThereWillBeAdequateFood · 23/10/2018 19:13

But you know that already - you are just being deliberately obtuse

I’m not being obtuse. You are claiming two separate things. Initially (on this thread) your position was that all Leavers knew what they were voting for.
Now you think the Leave vote would be split, so even you admit there’s no consensus about what Leavers want.

Walkingdeadfangirl · 23/10/2018 19:41

It's not rocket science to see the choice is between, no deal, staying in SM/CU or endless transition

Confused I thought remainers rejected the peoples vote because it wasn't that simple, therefore their was no way they could have known what they were voting for! Talk about having your cake...

Ta1kinpeace · 23/10/2018 19:44

Rejoin is for when leave find out they can't stop us leaving and that the EU won't stop Brexit...
Que?
THe EU would stop Brexit in the blink of an eye.

The decision is nothing to do with the EU
its all down to the UK .....

Hard Brexit
Soft Brexit
No Brexit

those are the choices

Bearbehind · 23/10/2018 19:47

walking are you just going to twist every comment to suit you?

What other options do you think there are for Leaving?

OP posts:
10degreestostarboard · 23/10/2018 19:49

Bearbehind

That’s you (and most of the other prolific remainers) being the pot and calling the kettle black...

Bearbehind · 23/10/2018 19:52

Eh?

There really is something in the water today.

What on earth do you mean 10?

OP posts:
Walkingdeadfangirl · 23/10/2018 20:02

What other options do you think there are?
Well what about ... WTO deal, Canada deal (or Canada +++ deal), TM deal, Switzerland deal, Norway deal, bespoke deal, splitting apart the UK deal, David Cameron deal, status quo deal, further integration into the EU deal...

Would think there are quite a few variations, but I am quite happy with the current route we voted for.

Ta1kinpeace · 23/10/2018 20:10

I am quite happy with the current route we voted for.
Which one is that ?

Bearbehind · 23/10/2018 20:10

This is getting surreal

WTO deal

That's no deal

Canada deal (or Canada +++ deal)

That's essentially no deal because it requires a border

TM deal

WTF is that?

Switzerland deal, Norway deal, bespoke deal, splitting apart the UK deal, David Cameron deal, status quo deal, further integration into the EU deal...

Likewise, what are any of these in reality?

but I am quite happy with the current route we voted for.

Which was simply to 'leave'

Please stop talking gibberish and outline what you see as feasible options.

OP posts:
ThereWillBeAdequateFood · 23/10/2018 20:12

I am quite happy with the current route we voted for

Would you mind letting me know what this current route is?

Walkingdeadfangirl · 23/10/2018 20:24

The current route is to let the UK government negotiate an exit and then parliament will vote on it. I will judge that deal when I see it. If parliament rejects it than I am fine with a WTO deal. I think the UK is more than capable of standing on its own two feet without the EU doing it for us.

Obviously there is more and more project fear 'noise' coming from remainers the closer we get to leaving. But like any good democracy we do not let a minority mob overrule the law. tbh you are all just winding yourselves up into a frenzy.

TheyBuiltThePyramids · 23/10/2018 20:29

"Neither did the Libdems do very well and they were the only party who promised to ignore the referendum result and stay in the EU." In my area the LibDems were beaten 2 elections in a row by UKIP. Sadly i wanted the Tories out more.

I am with Talking on this. I dont want a 2nd vote. I want Tresemme to stand up and say that this cannot work and needs to be stopped. They can blame who they want and it will be briefly inflammatory. But that is still better than the alternative of leaving and fucking over the whole country.

Bearbehind · 23/10/2018 20:30

The current route is to let the UK government negotiate an exit and then parliament will vote on it. I will judge that deal when I see it

I'll never understand this.

Leavers rant about regaining sovereignty yet are happy to allow decisions of this magnitude to be entirely decided by a government who have repeatedly demonstrated they cannot be trusted to do anything other than look after themselves.

OP posts:
ThereWillBeAdequateFood · 23/10/2018 20:36

a government who have repeatedly demonstrated they cannot be trusted to do anything other than look after themselves

I’m not convinced they are even capable of looking after themselves.

Walkingdeadfangirl · 23/10/2018 20:43

a government who have repeatedly demonstrated they cannot be trusted to do anything other than look after themselves

You mean they are doing something different to what you want. aka sour grapes.

Bearbehind · 23/10/2018 20:46

It's not sour grapes at all - I simply can't comprehend this nonsense.

You want to leave but are happy for the government to determine how that looks in reality because you have absolutely no opinion on how we actually Leave.
