Vegetarian at work buys chicken pasta but picks the chicken out??

She claims she's a vegetarian for moral reasons but still BUYS the chicken pasta at work, but picks it out. I've suggested to her that she's still funding the animals death and that if she likes the chicken, she may as well have eaten that.. probably fairer to the chicken that died. She looked disgusted at me and apparently I don't understand vegetarianism and that she physically can't bring her self to eat "the poor animal that should never have been food". I fully understand why vegetarians have that view, I do. However, surely you don't then BUY chicken??

I know this is is pointless

l haven't eaten meat for 30 years and l'd never do that. The chicken has touched the pasta. She either doesn't understand it or doesn't care.

ZeroFuchsGiven · 16/10/2018 12:01

I'd say shes being vegetarian for some sort of strange attention. i bet she eats meat at home in private.

GreenLantern53 · 16/10/2018 12:03

My mum use to try this when i was younger and turned veggie. said she would “take the meat out” yeh it doesnt work like that Confused

MorningsEleven · 16/10/2018 12:03

She's a fuckwit.

Andtheresaw · 16/10/2018 12:03

so the flesh is unacceptable but the stock/fat which is already in the sauce is Ok to eat?
NOT a vegetarian!

VimFuego101 · 16/10/2018 12:04

YANBU... either way, she's creating a demand/ market for the chicken by buying it.

PinkHeart5914 · 16/10/2018 12:04

I eat meat so probably not the best person to comment but at least if said animal is killed and eaten, it’s better than being killed and binned by a veggie? So it was killed for nothing then

Also loads of veggie pasta salad is available so no need to do it and surely a true veggie wouldn’t want pasta that chicken had been picked out of

BarbaraofSevillle · 16/10/2018 12:04

There will still be flakes of chicken in it and possibly chicken stock and she's not reducing the amount of chicken consumed assuming she just throws away the chicken she doesn't eat.

Agree that she sounds like an attention seeking weirdo.

Urbanbeetler · 16/10/2018 12:04

Haha! Strange person!

Norma27 · 16/10/2018 12:05

I’m veggie and really hate to see meat thrown away like this. I just feel that the poor animal has then died for absolutely no reason at all.
I’ve had people say they will just take the meat out. No bloody way!

Cahira · 16/10/2018 12:06

Yeah that's strange. I'm not veggie but my son is and at 7, he would find that unacceptable.

upsideup · 16/10/2018 12:08

Definately weird, so she just buys the chicken to put it in the bin? Thats worse that eating it as the animal died for nothing and most meat eaters probably wouldnt be comfortable with buying an animal just to waste it. I've been vegetarian for 10 years and have eaten pizza with pepperoni taken off and given to the person who bought it but would never buy anything with meat in myself.

I’m vegan and think she’s a fuckwitSmile

Piffle11 · 16/10/2018 12:10

That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. We had a large barbecue years ago and had to have a completely separate grill for the veggie stuff, let alone mixing it all in and letting the veggies pick out the meat! Can you imagine if all veggies did this? The stores would still be buying the meat dishes, and all the animals would be killed for no reason. She clearly prefers the meat option and is trying to justify it to herself. I could understand it if she just said she didn't like the taste of the meat bit, or the texture, but to say it's wrong to eat animals and then basically prop up the meat industry by buying it is insane. I don't know anyone who thinks killing animals for food is wrong who would do this.

flowery · 16/10/2018 12:11

”the poor animal that should never have been food”

I bet the poor animal would rather have been food than tossed in the bin.

Winterbella · 16/10/2018 12:11

She's a fuckwit
^^^^THIS

Maccycheesefries · 16/10/2018 12:11

That's not vegetarian thes it's been contaminated by the chicken. I don't eat pork and related products so I won't order a blt sandwich and pick the bacon out. That would defeat the purpose of avoiding pig meat.

SomeKnobend · 16/10/2018 12:13

Why do you care? It's none of your business what she eats.

Me too!! Grin

Hillarious · 16/10/2018 12:16

Just buy her a bag of Haribo!

rhysella · 16/10/2018 12:16

Not my business no, but when she's flicking the chicken in the bin right in front of me and saying "god poor thing" and then tucking right into the pasta, but hard to not make it your business

billysboy · 16/10/2018 12:19

fussy eating snowflake

eelbecomingforyou · 16/10/2018 12:21

No real vegetarian would do that. Attention-seeking twit.

JellyBears · 16/10/2018 12:22

See for me that’s worse then actually eating meat. That’s wasting an animals life. She can’t be very committed if she can eat meat contaminated food anyway. I’m a meat water but I try hard not to waste it and to buy good quality etc. She sounds like a shit vegetarian with very little regard for animal welfare if she can waste it like that.
