Vegetarian at work buys chicken pasta but picks the chicken out??

rhysella · 16/10/2018 11:58

She claims she's a vegetarian for moral reasons but still BUYS the chicken pasta at work, but picks it out. I've suggested to her that she's still funding the animals death and that if she likes the chicken, she may as well have eaten that.. probably fairer to the chicken that died. She looked disgusted at me and apparently I don't understand vegetarianism and that she physically can't bring her self to eat "the poor animal that should never have been food". I fully understand why vegetarians have that view, I do. However, surely you don't then BUY chicken??

I know this is is pointless

She's a puddinghead, so there is no point in arguing with her.
Just disengage as much as you can, don't acknowledge her when she does her trash act.

Tighnabruaich · 16/10/2018 12:22

Like that idiot journalist Liz Jones who claims to be vegan, and then writes about eating eggs, and wearing 'buttery soft' leather.
This woman is not a vegetarian, and she is worse than the meat eaters, because the animal has died in vain, plus she is unwittingly eating chicken product.

RangeRider · 16/10/2018 12:22

YANBU... either way, she's creating a demand/ market for the chicken by buying it.
This ^^. If she'd bought a veggie meal then the chicken might still be running round alive. By buying a chicken meal it's been killed. She's responsible for a chicken losing its life for no reason!

NoSquirrels · 16/10/2018 12:23

Unfortunately there’s no reasoning with the hard of thinking.

She sounds attention-seeking and so I’d just ignore, ignore, ignore.

AuntBeastie · 16/10/2018 12:23

I wouldn’t be happy doing that as a vegetarian myself but as you apparently aren’t one I think you should get off your high horse about it.

YourMilkshakeIsBetterThanMine · 16/10/2018 12:25

Not my business no, but when she's flicking the chicken in the bin right in front of me and saying "god poor thing" and then tucking right into the pasta, but hard to not make it your business

What an attention seeker! It sounds like's trying to convince herself and put on a bit of a show. I've been veggie for 27 years and I hardly mention it. What others buy/eat don't bother me and I don't comment on my own food.

Nephrite · 16/10/2018 12:25

Could she have some wafer thin ham?

AjasLipstick · 16/10/2018 12:26

Tell her there's chicken in the sauce! Does she imagine that the only chicken molecules are the lumps of actual meat??? What a weirdo.

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 16/10/2018 12:27

Attention-seeking loony.

Next time, casually drop in that she is in fact eating meat as the residue/fats/juices etc infiltrate the pasta.

rhysella · 16/10/2018 12:27

@AuntBeastie my high horse? I think it's worse to throw the animal away than eat it.

OP posts:
PositivelyPERF · 16/10/2018 12:28

She’s the type of asshole that gives the rest of the vegetarians a bad name. Dicks like this are part of the reason people think it’s acceptable to take the piss out of real vegetarian.

EndeavourVoyage · 16/10/2018 12:28

I am a vegan and she needs to understand that what she is doing is actually worse that eating it. I live and let live where meat eaters are concerned but she would annoy the hell out of me. That chicken has died a probable terrible death for a person to eat to nourish themselves, but not her she is making it suffer for no reason whatsoever, just to bin it. She is Bat Shit Crazy!!!

greendale17 · 16/10/2018 12:28

I'd say shes being vegetarian for some sort of strange attention. i bet she eats meat at home in private.

^This

NameChangedAgain18 · 16/10/2018 12:30

WTAF? I'm sorry you have to work with such a fuckwit, OP.

RuggerHug · 16/10/2018 12:30

The gobshite🤣🤣🤣 just ignore if you can. I'm veggie and giggling at this though.

UnleashTheBulsara · 16/10/2018 12:31

But but but... that isn't remotely logical! She's specifically bought dead animal product whilst pretending it's for ethical reasons that she isn't actually eating it!

So bizarre.

(And for one, I'm glad people take the time to create threads about other people's goings-on, it would be duller around here without it)

AuntBeastie · 16/10/2018 12:31

@rhysella I think she’s being an idiot but why the vitriol when you’re just as responsible for animals dying? It’s just weird. Either you care about animals being killed or you don’t, surely?

Maybe it’s more complicated than that, but I don’t see how.

tolerable · 16/10/2018 12:31

oh ear-flashback to taking a boyfriend home-told my dad he was vegetarian...he'd made huge steak pie dinner.gave poor john loadsa veg-and cut the pastry off top. was kinda awkward.. me n my sisters all laughed so hard we were crying. ..which infuriated my dad unfortunately -he calmly said "Hes wearing leather fucking shoes.theres no point wraping yourself in the hide n leaving the meat ,i'm getting fuckwit intolerant with some of the fools you lot bring home" same scene sortof

hibbledibble · 16/10/2018 12:33

As a vegan, this is very strange.

Surely there is a vegetarian option she can buy?

VanellopeVonSchweetz99 · 16/10/2018 12:33

Dumber than a box of rocks that one.
Just don't engage.

CaptainMarvelDanvers · 16/10/2018 12:34

She is an attention seeker, she wants you to notice and she wants you to comment even if she claims she doesn’t.

Best bet is to pretend that you notice nothing.

Hunlife · 16/10/2018 12:36

I was just going to say is your colleague Pam from G&S? I can imagine her scoffing a packet of ham at the counter.

BruegelTheElder · 16/10/2018 12:37

I bet the poor animal would rather have been food than tossed in the bin

I'm pretty sure the animal has no feelings on the matter. It's dead, after all.

OP, it makes no sense, as you said. So the only conclusion is that she's stupid. Lots of people are stupid, both vegetarians and omnivores alike, so that's no real surprise.

easyandy101 · 16/10/2018 12:38

That's an eating disorder dressed up as a dietary choice

veggiethrower · 16/10/2018 12:39

She isn't a vegetarian.
Chicken pasta tastes of chicken and contains chicken stock and bits of chicken even if you manage to pick all the bigger pieces out.
I agree with your point too that she is helping to fund the meat industry by purchasing meat products and I do think if you are going to buy a chicken pasta salad you should eat the chicken in it because otherwise the chicken has died in vain.
And if you can't face eating bits of chicken buy a vegetarian pasta or salad or rissotto or whatever.
