To think you dont need the matching knickers to every new bra you buy

I was having this chat with DH this evening as I am about to do a big bra shop (quantity and size now it would seem - boom boom) before rtw after a year ebf.

Spending a very very minimum of £20 per bra (looking at M&S) I dont feel I need to spend half that again on one pair of pants just because they match....DH thought you do clearly its been a long time since we had pre pj sex

What do you think?

I always used to buy 2 pairs to match each bra, and ensure that they were a similar colour to what was on top. However, it has become almost impossible to find comfortable knickers as there seems to be a fabric shortage and even the full coverage don't cover my cheeks, so no longer have the option. It is also impossible to find a comfy bra.

It used to make me feel better and more confident to know that I looked good underneath my clothes as well as in them, those days are long gone, a sign of a shit life.

Almostfifty · 15/10/2018 15:27

I always, always wear matching pairs.

Now I can afford to. Grin

pigsDOfly · 15/10/2018 15:27

Never seen the point of matching them particularly as the matching knickers always seem to be made of synthetic material in order to match the bra.

I like to wear pretty underwear but as I'm the only person seeing it and I have no problem with them not matching can't see the necessity of paying out a lot of money - they always seem to cost nearly as much as the bras - for a pair of nasty scratchy synthetic knickers.

zukiecat · 15/10/2018 15:29

I don't own any matching bras or pants

I can't afford to buy underwear like that, I buy my pants in packs of 4/5 from Primark, and bras from Asda

I just buy when I need them, never the two things together, so I might buy a new bra one month and new pants another month, and I would never think of matching them

Deadringer · 15/10/2018 16:21

I never buy matching sets, except when I was buying 'sexy' stuff. But my bra of choice is a plain black t shirt style and i always wear black pants so they are close enough. I have been married 30 years and my dh has never expressed an opinion about it, I would be a bit Hmm if he did I think.

E20mom · 15/10/2018 16:24

I do. But it's personal choice.

DragonGoby · 15/10/2018 16:26

I wear plain black, white/cream or beige bras and knickers. So they do usually match in colour (unless I run out!), but I don't buy them in matching sets.

PrincessDando · 15/10/2018 16:29

If I find a pair of pants that suits me and holds in my mum tum i buy in bulk. Don't really care about the matchy matchy thing. The only bras that suit me are quite an expensive brand (triumph) and if I find a style/size that fits I tend to buy a few of them on ebay or amazon for half price. Expensive enough without worrying about the matching knickers!

yikesanotherbooboo · 15/10/2018 16:38

It was fashionable to have matching pants and bra a few years ago. I found it really annoying as if a bra fits well I like to wear it with all outfits but the pants would potentially not be suitable vpl etc.i felt as if I was always badly dressed as a result. Silly me! Luckily now I am older and that phase of fashion has passed. What a waste of money and effort.

Mallorie · 15/10/2018 17:16

All my pants match... all my other pants, because they are all black cotton bikinis from M&S. I buy myself a new multipack every few months as a treat.

RubiksQueen · 15/10/2018 17:20

I too hate the synthetic knickers that always match a bra. Uncomfortable, thrush and BV inducing and bleugh.

FWIW my OH does not give a shit whatsoever about whether my underwear matches. He does care when I run out of knickers at his house and steal his pants Grin

bananasandwicheseveryday · 15/10/2018 17:25

I don't buy matching sets, but I do buy bras / pants that have matching colours. Only one pair of pants per bra, as I have a clean bra every day. I do have a few white bras to wear with pants where I haven't been able to match the colours.

newmumwithquestions · 15/10/2018 17:28

I used to. Always.
I had a load of lovely underwear.

Now? Currently in grey (was once white) maternity bra (DD is nearly 3) and Asda big black cotton pants.

I optimistically have all the old underwear stashed in the loft in the hope those days will come again..,

Ginazon · 15/10/2018 17:32

Who doesn't wear matching underwear Confused

Do you understand that other people care about different things to you? And there are clearly a number of people on this thread who don't wear matching underwear, so, I'm not sure what the point of your question is?

SequinsOnEverything · 15/10/2018 17:35

I don't own a single matching set. Every single pair of my pants that I actually wear are big, black cotton pants. Whatever bra I wear, I wear those pants.

jay55 · 15/10/2018 17:38

If they gave a decent cotton choice I’d get the matching knickers but not when they are lacy and uncomfortable and 3x the price of other knickers.
I wish for each bra there were fancy and every day options for matching pants.

Belina · 15/10/2018 17:45

If it's a nice set I would buy the matching but if its just a standard black bra or wherever I dont care about the pants a black knickers would work fine

I'm never matching maybe why I'm single lol

pigsDOfly · 15/10/2018 17:57

You and me both Belina Now I know why I've never met anyone to marry since my divorce nearly twenty years ago. It's cause my knickers don't match my bra.

All the years of single living. If only I'd known Sad

Starlings27 · 15/10/2018 18:00

I have plenty of pairs on knickers without matching bras (usually those no seam smooth ones) but if I buy a bra, I usually buy at least two pairs of matching pants. I’m less anal about matching then up since I had DS though, after which all my standards dropped!

Starlings27 · 15/10/2018 18:02

God, that came out wrong. I used to be very careful to match everything, choose my clothes the night before, try several outfits on before leaving for work, match bag to shoes and underwear to outerwear, blow dry my hair etc.... but since having DS, my priorities have changed, is what I mean.

kazwelch · 15/10/2018 18:05

I haven't got a matching pair of bra or knickers.

OutPinked · 15/10/2018 18:06

I’ve always bought black bras since the majority of my undies are black so it’s always sort of matching.

funnylittlefloozie · 15/10/2018 18:08

Im very much in the minority here, but i love my matching underwear - and i have a LOT of sets. I justify it to myself because as a teenager i was never allowed to have "frivolous" clothes, and then my now-ex-H made it clear that wearing sexy undies was probably an indicator that you were shagging around. Then i put on too much weight and all my underwear was boring and functional.

When i lost weight and ditched the H, i treated myself to the sort of underwear i always wanted. I never found lacy knickers scratchy, but i dont have particularly sensitive skin, and i wear a lot of silk.

AmericanEskimoDoge · 15/10/2018 18:17

It's not something I've really thought much about, but now that I do, it just doesn't seem worth the effort plus I prioritize comfort over looks in my underwear. (Ok, that's actually true for nearly everything I wear not just "undies"!)

I can see doing it "for yourself", if you're the type to enjoy it, but as far as men are concerned, I doubt many really care. Isn't their primary goal getting those clothes off, whether or not they're matching?

SwimmingKaren · 15/10/2018 18:22

Colours absolutely have to match here. Although will only buy the set if I actually like the knickers, otherwise I will match to others I do like.
