I have realised I am in a biscuit no-mans land, having eaten, but not loved many a biscuit in my time. I’m now in search of ‘the one’, the lifetime partner biscuit that only death or removal from manufacture will see us parted. I do love a proper highland shortbread, but at the same time they are just a little too plain. Chocolate covered/filled/chips is good (but please don’t recommend hobnobs, I do not have the spare time available to remove those from my teeth). Any kind of fruit filling/coating could also be interesting. In particular, these biscuits are required to go with my last tea before bed at night, and also with a coffee or two during the week when I’m working from home. So
A) AIBU to ask, and
B) what do you recommend?

Really? My aunt tried this and she said the waffle simply went soggy.

Wowsers. Just checked this thread and stunned to see the breadth and depth of selection out there...my eyes have been opened. I think I may now have to embark on a year long taste test using this thread as my guide....

Co op do amazing fruit oaty ones which are lush but do not stand up hugely well to dunking!

angieloumc · 15/10/2018 08:22

Borders butterscotch biscuits are amazing! I also like the milk chocolate Leibniz.

Ariela · 15/10/2018 08:33

Life has not been the same since they stopped making Abbey Crunch.

I have memories of Saturday mornings in my student years spent tinkering with bikes in a friends double garage underneath the house they all lived in, with big mugs of coffee to wash down half a packet. Abbey Crunch were tasty, crunchy and dunkable without falling to bits.
He used to smoke a pipe (because it was cheaper), so anytime I get a waft of Old Holborn I think of tinkering with bikes and Abbey Crunch biscuits. ... ... ah, nostalgia!

Well I found this recipie, and can honestly say they're just like the real thing.

LaDameAuxLicornes · 15/10/2018 08:58

Borders dark chocolate gingers, M&S extremely chocolatey in milk or white, Jules Destrooper florentines, or if I'm feeling dirty then an occasional mint Viscount.

Alicatz66 · 15/10/2018 11:00

Boasters .. The big chunky nut ones .. next ever biscuit 🍪

Alicatz66 · 15/10/2018 11:00

Best !!

YetAnotherSpartacus · 15/10/2018 13:42

I like Walker's shortbread. I know this is dull, but there you go. The homestyle ones are the best, but Petticoat Tails do remind me of my Grandma.

Stormwhale · 15/10/2018 13:43

Marks and Spencer extra chocolatey biscuits. They come in a tin, and the chocolate to biscuit ratio is just perfect in every variation contained in the tin. Man i want some now.

soveryfeckless · 15/10/2018 13:48

@forthelifeofpomme "scandal tin" has it a rude picture in the lid? Grin

I love Lotus biscuits and shortbread (all-butter only!).

shockedballoon · 15/10/2018 14:01

I've skimmed the whole thread and I don't think anyone mentioned Grandma Wilds biscuits - in particular the stem ginger and lemon. They are so, so good. Satisfyingly big as well. Crumbly, buttery, lemony and a little bit of a chew from the stem ginger. I get them from Morrisons but not sure where else has them. Choco Leibnitz
Choco Leibnitz
Choco Leibnitz
The BEST biscuit in the whole wide world.

trippingup · 15/10/2018 14:27

Those Echo bars were wonderful. Can you still get them? Are the a biscuit or chocolate bar though?

BayTrees · 15/10/2018 14:29

Any Bahlsen but especially dark chocolate First Class. Best biscuits ever. Or possibly their Choco Liebnitz with mint chocolate topping
I am trying to lose weight and DH is not helping cos he brings me home packs of these. Lovingly meant but evilly tempting.

WorriesGalore · 15/10/2018 14:33

Elizabeth Shaw Raisin and Hazelnut.

powkin · 15/10/2018 15:38

Choco Leibnitz ARE great but can be perilous for dunking.

Waitrose 1 Belgian Dark Chocolate Ginger Thins - could eat about 1000 of these but too few in a pack, too expensive and too addictive for me to buy regularly

Used to love the M&S ultimate milk chocolate ones but I feel M&S has gone downhill in recent years with their chocolate - it seems MUCH sweeter and less cocoa-y than it has in the past. I treated myself to one of their selection boxes and everything was too sweet. I am not a big snob and bloody love a kitkat or a digestive but when I'm paying for something expensive I want to taste the difference!

Can never go wrong with a 2 finger kitkat in it's lovely foil and paper. So reassuring. You could always eat one finger and come back for the other later.... or just scoff two.

Tomatoesrock · 15/10/2018 15:40

I love the new wispa biscuits but end up finishing the pack.

NecklessMumster · 15/10/2018 15:41

Malted Milk...especially the half choc covered ones

Tinkobell · 15/10/2018 15:52

Caramel filled stroop waffles. Or any Millie's cookies.

Areyoufree · 15/10/2018 15:57

@JovialNickname Oh my God, Jaspers! I hadn't even thought of those in years, but now, if I don't get my hands on one in the next twenty minutes, I may have to start destroying my office. What have you done?!?

adaline · 15/10/2018 16:10

I'm currently demolishing some dark chocolate chip Maryland cookies!

Gigis · 15/10/2018 16:12

The wafer cigar ones in the m and s Christmas Belgium selection box!

rhuzzle89 · 15/10/2018 16:32

Another vote for choco leibniz...which maybe tells you I prefer chocolate to biscuit
