To think the tide is turning with transgenderism

abacucat · 11/10/2018 10:05

There have been a flood of articles in mainstream newspapers criticising transgenderism and putting forward the feminist perspective. It is not long ago that no mainstream newspaper would carry these articles. The tide seems to be turning.

Verbeena, the Pips Bunce link please. You can't say there is no point because people won't listen, if it's there in black and white, so you can't use that as an excuse I'm afraid.

Where did you read about Pips?

DisrespectfulAdultFemale · 11/10/2018 19:07

Yes. And I believe he used the term "father" as well.

Datun · 11/10/2018 19:08

VerbeenaBeeks

But what is your criteria for id-ing as a woman?

I'm assuming it's not something straightforward? Must have gender dysphoria, or must have surgery?

Ereshkigal · 11/10/2018 19:09

I'm glad so many people see through the desperate derailing attempts. I'm heading out for now. Will pop back later.

PlantsArePeopleToo · 11/10/2018 19:09

So in what way is Danielle Muscato a woman?

If you actual manage to provide a logical non circular answer I will donate a tenner to a charity of your choice.

CaligulaBlushed · 11/10/2018 19:09

Some feminists don't care if their feminism results in their becoming transphobes.

Some feminists don't think transphobia is acceptable in anybody's name, least of all in the name of women and girls.

I know which kind of feminist I am.

CaligulaBlushed · 11/10/2018 19:10

So in what way is Danielle Muscato a woman?

LEGALLY

VerbeenaBeeks · 11/10/2018 19:10

Just double checked, it was Danielle Muscato I was referring to not Pips Bunce.
So apologies for that mix up. Still stands though that there are disgusting comments thrown around about Danielle, just like the other poster upthread said.

Datun · 11/10/2018 19:11

CaligulaBlushed

I know which kind of feminist I am.

So what's your criteria? Where do you see the line in the sand for who can, and who can't, identify as a woman?

PlantsArePeopleToo · 11/10/2018 19:11

Is biology transphobic caligula?

Elephantinacravat · 11/10/2018 19:11

Some feminists don't care if their feminism results in their becoming transphobes.

Do you think saying 'transwomen aren't women' is transphobic?

VerbeenaBeeks · 11/10/2018 19:11

Datun · 11/10/2018 19:12

LEGALLY

So anyone with a GRC?

CaligulaBlushed · 11/10/2018 19:13

Is biology transphobic caligula?

Are you putting your hand in your pocket for that tenner first? I choose Stonewall.

Elephantinacravat · 11/10/2018 19:14

Still stands though that there are disgusting comments thrown around about Danielle, just like the other poster upthread said.

Yeah well Danielle told women that they can 'suck my dick' on International Women's Day so.... Meh.

Lazypoolday · 11/10/2018 19:14

Ok so let me get it straight.

  • this thread had had lots of deleted posts because of all the transphobia. I mean, only 2 but that's because it's not in FWR
  • Quoting stats without the link to those stats is just "fearmongering". Oh you posted the link thanks but I'll just ignore it. Nope not addressing it at all. Crickets
  • there is no point engaging but you can reply to every post within minutes. Just not the ones that ask questions of opinions on proven facts. In that case go back to "not engaging" but still engaging by posting that there.is.no.point repeatedly
  • if all else fails go back to the mean feminists stance

Around and around we go...

PlantsArePeopleToo · 11/10/2018 19:15

I will if you actually bother to answer my (very easy) questions first caligula.

BigChocFrenzy · 11/10/2018 19:15

Is FWR an echo chamber ? - it has the highest number of hits after AIBU & Chat
That's an awfully large echo chamber

CosmicCanary · 11/10/2018 19:17

So in what way is Danielle Muscato a woman?

LEGALLY

Yeah cos being a women is purely a legal thing Hmm

For somebody to think so little of women they believe all it boils down to is a legality is not onlly depressing but is disrespectful and damn right vile.

BigChocFrenzy · 11/10/2018 19:17

Most of us on FWR think that men can never become women
So, we say a transwoman is not a woman and never can be

We should not be forced to say something we don't believe, something that contradicts basic biology, just to be "nice" and "woke"

Transwomen commit violent and sexual offences at the same rate as men
Men form 98% of convictions for sexual offences and 85% of convictions for other serious offences
Therefore we do not want self-ID in single sex spaces

It's not that we don't want specifically transwomen in our single sex spaces: it's that we don't want any men there at all.

Those posters who are offended by FWR think the above views are transphobic
So far MNHQ disagrees and so does the law

The huge number of hits on the FWR board also indicates that those MNers don't think its transphobic and they want to keep discussing self-ID

Datun · 11/10/2018 19:17

Muscato doesn't have a GRC, does she?

VerbeenaBeeks · 11/10/2018 19:17

Twisty twisty, piley piley, around and around we go, yep you're right there.
The other threads are shouting over and over "so what is a woman?" People answer, you get told, don't like the answer, around we go again.

Earlywalker · 11/10/2018 19:17

I’ve seen a lot more people discussing self ID and concerns rising over people that may for example ‘pretend’ to be trans to be moved to a woman’s prison. People are definitely discussing this which is great. The real issues are getting out there.

Although (and fully admit I only read the first few pages of this thread) the extreme views are still being seen as bigoted. I’m disgusted at the person Saying basically that you disagree with a rememberance day for trans people because ‘more woman are killed’ it is like saying there’s no point discussing testicular cancer because more die from breast cancer - it’s this approach that gives this a bad name.

I’m ashamed to be GC these days, I don’t speak openly about concerns on Self ID much anymore for fear of being tarred with the brush that some of you so openly paint with.

VerbeenaBeeks · 11/10/2018 19:18

This one's the same.

BrickByBrick · 11/10/2018 19:19

The FWR board is heavily watched by those with baited breath waiting for any posts that can be deemed transphobic so they can , en masse, report.

I don't agree with some posted on FWR, sometimes words are taken wrong/twisted but that is the internet for you. A lot of the counter arguments remind me of the bf vs ff debates and the 'formula isn't poison' argument, those who bf have never said that but arguments can twisted, new points made and attributed wrongly.

It is very interesting that the two apparent transphobic posts that have been pointed out on here have both been posted by the non-GC side and then highlighted as evidence.

Just out of interest as it seems to be problematic to define woman, how about man? Maybe we could start from there?
