to worry about DH?

I'm committing the MN cardinal sin of posting in AIBU for traffic.

DH suffers from migraines and seemed to go down with one last Thursday, a really bad one. It hasn't followed the normal pattern and he has remained at a high level of pain since Friday. He cannot tolerate moving, talking, any light. I phoned NHS Direct at 3am on Monday when he was incoherent with pain and they told me about NICE fever guidelines (he hasn't got a fever) and we saw the emergency GP later that day who prescribed Tramadol which just made him itch.

Nothing has worked. The tramadol, aspirin, codeine, ibuprofen, migril, paracetamol (not all at the same time, tried different things according to advice). Not even taken off the edge.

Today he's started vomiting violently.

We have another appointment at 11am.

What is it? This is not a migraine. It's just not fitting his lifelong pattern. 20 years together and he's actually called in sick for the very first time.

Thank you.

The GP rang ahead and requested a lumbar puncture and CT. They were waiting for us when we got here and he was taken straight through. Just waiting for results and some other tests.

Internet is sketchy so will update if and when I can.

Good luck op I hope he's feeling better soon

LuluBellaBlue · 10/10/2018 13:02

Hope everything turns out ok and he’s on the mend soon

ShowOfHands · 10/10/2018 13:03

My Dad has cluster headaches. I don't think it's that.

Poor man, glad he’s being investigated.

explodingkitten · 10/10/2018 13:17

Glad they are doing tests now. Hoping it's not too serious. Thanks

ileclerc · 10/10/2018 13:21

Hope he's ok.

Holidayfromreal · 10/10/2018 13:27

Hope he's feeling better soon OP

Whatsthisbear · 10/10/2018 13:34

Brilliant that he got taken through so quickly, I hope the results don’t show anything too serious op.

ShowOfHands · 10/10/2018 13:34

I can't get over how busy the hospital is. People had parked all over the grass and the road to the (large) car park. There were signs everywhere as we came in saying they're in crisis and please see the GP if you possibly can.

I'm quite hungry and need to put longer on the car but reluctant to leave DH. He's under his hoodie and groaning.

Results will take another hour ish.

How worrying, hope you're getting some answers Showy.

IDoLoveToBeBesideTheSeaside · 10/10/2018 13:35

I hope he can get some answers and help soon OP.

TomHardysNextWife · 10/10/2018 13:36

Look after yourself too, you're no good to him if you're passing out with hunger!! You could be there hours yet. Get some fresh air and get a sandwich Flowers

Livinglavidal0ca · 10/10/2018 13:37

That sounds like more than a migraine, hopefully the lumbar puncture gives you some answers, you usually get the results fairly quickly with those.

hendricksy · 10/10/2018 13:42

Fingers crossed you get some answers .

huttub · 10/10/2018 13:42

I hope it is just a severe migraine.

Threeminis · 10/10/2018 13:45

Hope he's ok op - have you had something to eat yet? You need to look after yourself too

Stormwhale · 10/10/2018 13:49

I think you did the exactly right thing in this situation op. Rushing off to a&e wouldn't have helped. Fingers crossed they work this out very quickly and help your dh feel much better.

ifonly4 · 10/10/2018 13:51

If you haven't already, go and get some food, there's sure to be sandwiches and other snacks you can have while waiting with DH. You're going through a worrying time and you need to keep eating otherwise you'll be completely drained.

Update us when you can, but don't forget we're hear in the meantime for support.

KatnissMellark · 10/10/2018 13:52

Hope all comes back ok OP. Make sure you take care of yourself. Have a quick walk to put more time on the car and grab some food to bring back, you'll feel better. You're no use to DH if you're knackered and starving.

CrochetBelle · 10/10/2018 14:13

Sounds horrendous. Is making me think of when I had two weeks of horrible pain following a difficult lumbar puncture. I ended up re-hospitalised for a week.
Have they ever considered Chairi Malformation?

letsdolunch321 · 10/10/2018 14:19

Please eat if you have not already done so. Food is the fuel that you need to drive safely and take on board what you are being told when results are discussed 💐

Glad to read the GP acted in an appropriate manner before you got to the hospital.

ShowOfHands · 10/10/2018 15:15

I've had a sandwich and a drink. Car is paid until 7ish. Phoned around my work, his work, ILs who are collecting DC and a friend who can bring stuff to us if necessary.

Blood tests show no sign of infection but no other news. DH is still in the foetal position with his hoodie wrapped round his head.

Silvercatowner · 10/10/2018 15:49

Sounds awful. I hope you can get some answers and some pain relief soon.

Notsoaccidentproneanymore · 10/10/2018 16:03

You must be so worried Sad I hope they find the answer sooner rather than later.

Hug.
