Hello :)

I'm just curious really - I was talking to a friend and said I was hoping to be in my old clothes 3 months after the birth - it's my first baby and I'm naturally very slim, the only weight I've gained in the pregnancy is basically bump/baby. She said I was BU and that it would take at least 12 months! I know losing the weight really isn't the be all and end all but just for my own reasons really I'd love to be in a situation by then where my pre pregnancy clothes would fit (unless of course I have a c sect or very difficult birth that means I can't actually get out for walks and stuff for a while!)

I guess my question is am I being unrealistic? Interested to hear everyone else's stories?!

It took me about seven months, then the extra fat just fell off me and I ended up looking like an ironing board.

With my 1st baby I was back in them the next day (I was 21 and a skinny size 6-8, and she only weighed 5lbs). With my second baby it took around 6 months (I was 36 and a size 8-10, but she weighed over 8lb and I ended up with muscle separation etc, which I'm still working on 9 months later!)

I'd say about a month or two for jeans: mostly, once my fanny was back to a regular size (hamburger crotch, anyone?) and stopped bleeding like the Niagara Falls. But that's just because my jeans hang low and my bum and thighs didn't particularly grow bigger from pregnancy.

Waist size is a very different premise. Short answer is probably "never, not quite". My ribcage was never the same after kids (I was very slim beforehands, bones had to expand outwards and never quite went back to where they used to be). And I grew extra stretched flabby fat skin on my tum which never quite shrunk away. Still fits inside the same clothes, but it doesn't hang the same. Crop tops wouldn't work.
I don't care (much), but it is not same (contrary to what everyone says when they see me "Oh, you got your body back etc.")

I just got back into my pre-pregnancy jeans for the first time a few weeks ago. My twins start school next week (Southern Hemisphere).

3 years so far, still nowhere near!

I can get them on now. 8 days postpartum. My belly went straight back to how it was. I just don't wear jeans because leggings and soft bottoms are more comfy!

alphabetsoup1980 · 29/01/2022 06:25

Errrrr three years

Sceptre86 · 29/01/2022 08:27

First baby 3 months, second baby a year and third baby 8 weeks. That isn't to say I am currently slim, far from it but my jeans pre baby were a size 14 anyway. I've got a lot of weight to lose.

RantyAunty · 29/01/2022 08:31

About 40 years

Pollyforever · 29/01/2022 08:35

8 months after 1st, 12 months after 2nd. Still not back in them after 3rd who is three!

T00Ts · 29/01/2022 08:44

Week. Not that I bothered, I had a C-section so didn’t fancy jeans. I exercised a lot in pregnancy and didn’t gain anything additional really. Straight after birth I weighed the same. I also wore a Belly Bandit ab trainer which helped me retain core strength and return to my size before.

I know people on here are critical of some of us for caring about this, but I did. It didn’t take away from my birth by caring about my figure.

FateHasRedesignedMost · 29/01/2022 08:46

About a week but I had HG and lost weight. Also breastfed round the clock which makes everything shrink down, expels fluid etc.

NickyNora · 10/05/2022 08:40

With all 6 dc about 2 weeks.
Always been slim and never put much weight on in pregnancy.

buckingmad · 10/05/2022 09:37

As soon as my c section scar allowed me, probably a week. But I’m naturally slim and the weight I put on was all bump/water retention. I was also very active during pregnancy so don’t know if that helped.

Babdoc · 10/05/2022 09:40

5 days. Baby was 8lbs 5oz, and I had a big bump, but none if it was fat, it just deflated immediately post birth. I weighed under 8 and a half stone pre pregnancy, and was back to the same at 5 days.

MovinOnUp · 10/05/2022 09:53

1st baby:left the hospital wearing my jeans (had actually lost weight due to HG)

2nd baby:around 3 months.

3rd baby:well he's only one month old bit I reckon it will be a while as was much bigger pre pregnancy than with my other two and am 13 years older now

cadburyegg · 10/05/2022 09:54

With DS1 I was back in my pre pregnancy jeans after 2 weeks.

With DS2 my pre pregnancy jeans still don't fit and he's now 4, even though I weigh less now than I did before getting pregnant with both of them. My shape has changed massively, fat seems to collect round my middle more than it did, and there's much more loose skin!

babymuffinxo · 10/05/2022 10:21

8 weeks. Some pairs are slightly snug now, but I blame my c-section pouch for that.
