To ask how long it took you to 'get back in your jeans' after a baby?

Hello :)

I'm just curious really - I was talking to a friend and said I was hoping to be in my old clothes 3 months after the birth - it's my first baby and I'm naturally very slim, the only weight I've gained in the pregnancy is basically bump/baby. She said I was BU and that it would take at least 12 months! I know losing the weight really isn't the be all and end all but just for my own reasons really I'd love to be in a situation by then where my pre pregnancy clothes would fit (unless of course I have a c sect or very difficult birth that means I can't actually get out for walks and stuff for a while!)

I guess my question is am I being unrealistic? Interested to hear everyone else's stories?!

First one 2 weeks.

2nd, who knows (currently pg)!

WoahBaby · 08/10/2018 23:01

10 weeks for the first and 6 weeks for the second. Technically they fitted but it was still nice to slip into the ole maternity jeans as they were comfy! I still have a maternity skirt that weirdly fits now I'm back to normal shape. But on the whole you do lose a fair amount of 'bulk' (can I call it that??!) as your body adjusts to not being pregnant anymore - losing the water weight etc. Took me a year to get rid of the fat.

MrsSlocombesPussy · 08/10/2018 23:27

Still waiting. My youngest is 11

Strokethefurrywall · 09/10/2018 03:25

Well quite - and none of it matters.

You can drop all the baby weight straight away but then go hard at Christmas one year and pile on 15lbs, then take a few months losing that, then lose a shit ton of weight if you train for a race and then the following year add a few more pounds back on.

I've had 4 years since DS2 was a newborn. I've collectively gained and lost about 15lbs multiple times since then.

I'm currently at my fittest because I'm training and now I don't eat processed foods, sugar, alcohol, dairy etc.

I can't understand why women put pressure on themselves to "get into shape" straight after having a baby. You've just grown a human, you're not supposed to be worrying about that stuff!!

Strokethefurrywall · 09/10/2018 03:27

And I lost my baby weight through genetics. I didn't put much on because genetics, and it all fell off straight away because... genetics.
I didn't do anything magical or work hard to do it.

But 14 months after DS1 was born and I finished marathon training, I stuff my face for about 2 months...

@Ghanagirl ermmm, the op asked.

Booie09 · 09/10/2018 04:07

9 years.....

ChristmasArmadillo · 09/10/2018 04:07

When I left the hospital with my first. Around a month with my second. I’m naturally small and only gain a belly.

ballroompink · 09/10/2018 06:13

About three months both times I think. I'm pear-shaped and so once my stomach had shrunk back down, which happened pretty fast, it was excess weight on my bum and thighs which was hanging around. So I was back in my usual size dresses and skirts faster than the trousers. Both times I have lost a lot of weight through breastfeeding though - have been a lot lighter than pre-pregnancy weight by about seven months.

Yerroblemom1923 · 09/10/2018 07:23

Is this with consciously trying to lose the weight or just happened?
My dd is 10.... I'm still fat.

MetalMidget · 09/10/2018 07:28

About six weeks, I think - I was obese when I got pregnant though. I had a few conditions discovered, got put on meds, got pregnant very shortly after! Gave birth, ended up lighter than I was pre-pregnancy.

I'm still a bit of a porker two years later though, even though I've lost over two stone. Got another two to go!

springmachine · 09/10/2018 07:39

14 months.
And that's into the slightly stretchy bigger jeans.

My pre pregnancy teeny jeans still only just about do up but there's a muffin top there.

I put on about 4 stone in pregnancy though, and having had a c section I put on more after giving birth because I couldn't move and was eating crap out of exhaustion.

I lost weight slowly, then 7 months after giving birth I did a VLCD and lost 2 stone very quickly.

The rest came off gradually after just by changing my eating habits.

Merryoldgoat · 09/10/2018 07:42

I was back in pre-pregnancy clothes within 3 weeks after both pregnancies.

However, I’m very fat and only gained ‘baby’ as my fat reserves were adequate for 3/4 pregnant women Grin

cocoallure · 09/10/2018 07:44

About a week, it just sort of disappeared. Think I put on a stone or so. I did over produce milk though, massively!!! However although I got back into my jeans fine my shape changed completely and has stayed that way too.

Myusername101z · 09/10/2018 07:49

@ghanagirl it’s not competitive boasting op asked a question people answered , do you want us to lie to make you feel better ?

Sgtmajormummy · 09/10/2018 07:59

First DC, can’t remember.
Second, immediately because I lost weight at the same rate the baby grew (gestational diabetes so strict diet) and I had plenty of reserves.

Then along came leggings and the stretchiness that is very forgiving to mum tums and the need for unfettered movement. Jeans could be avoided.

But, to reach the point of wearing jeans in a pre-pregnancy size and objectively thinking I look good in them, it’s taken 6 months (DC2 is nearly 13) and a serious low carb diet for health rather than appearance reasons.

That’s life!

londonfeather · 09/10/2018 08:04

Had him on the Tuesday back in my jeans on the Friday - though was a bit of a wiggle to get them on. I was all bump though...

Ghanagirl · 09/10/2018 09:42

@Myusername101z
A statement from you that may or may not be true has no bearing on how I feel but I’m not a vulnerable new mother

Sallycinammonbangsthedruminthe · 09/10/2018 09:50

27 years up to press ans still counting! I fear it will never happen!!!

Dobbythesockelf · 09/10/2018 09:51

I have to say I agree with ghana I had a baby 15 weeks ago. I'm not in my pre pregnancy jeans and I dunno if I ever will be. My hips have widened etc. I thought I was doing ok. Its coming off slowly as I imagine it does for most people. But if this was the fist time I had had a baby and I saw all these comments about getting back into jeans 2 weeks after birth etc and I was really struggling it would make me feel pretty shit. Luckily I know that for many women losing baby weight takes months not weeks.

TheOrigFV45 · 09/10/2018 09:58

But Dobby, you're just focussing on the women who've said the weight came off easily. I haven't counted, but I think there are equal numbers of women saying it took longer and some who say their bodies changed entirely.

I think what we can take from this thread is that everyone is different, and it's down to so, so many different factors.

Shutupanddance1 · 09/10/2018 09:59

Yep, I’m like 15 weeks after DD2 and I’m still not at my pre baby weight. Nine months on, nine months off is my motto.. I’ve only got a stone left to go and I’m in no hurry.

Besides, BF is no fun if you can’t enjoy tea and cake Wink

Starlive23 · 09/10/2018 10:06

Sorry, I'm still not anywhere near back in mine at 6.5 months! I had a bad pregnancy, bed rest and a c section though. I will be lucky if I got back in my old clothes at 12 months!

Ghanagirl · 09/10/2018 10:07

@TheOrigFV45
More women than in RL seem to be back in jeans from day 0 to 6-8 weeks it’s not a reflection of the new mothers I work with who come from a variety of backgrounds.
And the poster inferring I might be jealous just proves my point.
My job entails supporting new mothers not competing with them or encouraging them to compete with each other.
I just think the thread is at best disappointing and at worst harmful.

CMOTDibbler · 09/10/2018 10:10

Left hospital in a pair of trousers that had been tight pre pregnancy (dh packed them). But I was very stressed and nauseous and didn't gain any weight at all until after 24 weeks
