Hello :)

I'm just curious really - I was talking to a friend and said I was hoping to be in my old clothes 3 months after the birth - it's my first baby and I'm naturally very slim, the only weight I've gained in the pregnancy is basically bump/baby. She said I was BU and that it would take at least 12 months! I know losing the weight really isn't the be all and end all but just for my own reasons really I'd love to be in a situation by then where my pre pregnancy clothes would fit (unless of course I have a c sect or very difficult birth that means I can't actually get out for walks and stuff for a while!)

I guess my question is am I being unrealistic? Interested to hear everyone else's stories?!

@ghanagirl I do agree with what you are saying but the poster did ask a question I don’t see simply providing an answer as boasting....I was back in my jeans quickly mainly because I suffered with severe anxiety and baby blues and didn’t eat for about 4 weeks now I’m feeling better the jeans are becoming very ,very snug Grin .

Mari50 · 09/10/2018 11:32

I kept wearing my maternity jeans for ages after my dd’s birth, I loved that I could go to the toilet and just pull em down rather than faffing with zips etc.

Stonebake · 09/10/2018 11:36

Oh I don’t know... I think maybe 4 months till my skinnies, but way before that for looser things. Leggings and tops I wore throughout pregnancy and immediately after. You don’t need a whole new wardrobe even if you’re bigger than before, unless you’re a lot bigger and it doesn’t sound as if you are.

Bras though; I’m still feeding my nearly 9mo and I struggle with bras. Refuse to buy more as my boobs change all the time. Will buy some when I’ve stopped.

ToastyFingers · 09/10/2018 12:46

With my first, a couple of days. I think I was slimmer post pregnancy (apart from the midriff area) and once my tummy had deflated I was ready to go.

My second I wore my maternity jeans for about a year. I think it took about 18 months to get back to a size 8/10 but it's no longer sustainable for me now and I rest comfortably at a size 10/12.

Stonebake · 09/10/2018 13:14

Weirdly I think I lost weight quicker the second time. With dc1 I was quite bloated for a while. Big, puffy ankles and face. I really wasn’t very well though. Clothes should have been the least of my worries and I guess they were, but it certainly wasn’t great not having anything to wear. And when I had to go back in to hospital in a bit of an emergency dh brought me all my non-maternity clothes. They wouldn’t go near me! With dc2 it was much quicker.

Stonebake · 09/10/2018 13:17

I think the difference was the fact I had a not great birth with dc1 and we were both really ill. I think of you breeze through the birth and are feeling fairly well after, that makes a lot of difference. But you don’t obviously get much say over that, so I don’t suppose it’s worth giving too much thought to.

EK36 · 09/10/2018 13:20

No. 1 took 6 months (diet and exercise).
No. 2 took 12 months (but I had a back injury so couldn't excerise for a while so relied on dieting).

Suppose its how much weight you put on during your pregnancy.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 09/10/2018 13:35

Let's see - ds1 is 25, so 25 years and counting!

Esker · 09/10/2018 14:46

Five months. I had a c section so felt very sensitive about wearing anything tight around my middle for quite a long time.

Welshmaiden85 · 09/10/2018 14:49

Never, but I had been a size six and my hips grew so much I don’t think I’d ever be that size again. I’m actually the same weight now but two sizes bigger.

Tronkmanton · 09/10/2018 14:51

Straight away with both. But I was young and slim, not sure I could fit in them now! I was also lucky not to have c sections.

SPARKS17 · 09/10/2018 14:55

I'd say comfortably at 6 weeks, I was a size 10 pre birth and had a c-section so hated anything on my tummy until that was healed and the bruising had gone down. I also had a small bump. I'm 35 too.

Upsy1981 · 09/10/2018 17:59

I'm not boasting competitively or otherwise. And my jeans have not been size 6-8 since I was about 14. The OP asked when we got back in our jeans so we told her. In my case, I certainly didn't try to do so. There was no desire either way. It just happened. I certainly wasn't dieting or exercising.

KriswithaK · 09/10/2018 18:13

So Ill during pregnancy that at full term I was 3 sizes smaller.

I don’t recommend it though.

anniehm · 09/10/2018 18:14

NEVER!!! Confused

Roomba · 09/10/2018 18:16

First time - 4-6 weeks

Second time - I went home from hospital in them. Had v small bump though and could wear them with up til birth with one of those pregnancy inserts that fit between the button and button hole giving you an extra inch or two (do they still sell those?).

3luckystars · 09/10/2018 18:19

I remember reading "I was in my jeans 2 weeks after the birth" from one poster.

Then a few weeks later I saw her post on the "anyone with 5 stone or more to lose" thread.

Of course she fitted into her jeans!! They were big jeans!

I would believe very little of what anyone says.

In my experience, women can put pressure on themselves to lose weight after having a baby, but it's about a year or two after the birth that the weight can creep on.

Ignore everyone and enjoy your baby x

blondie1001 · 09/10/2018 18:21

3 weeks but I have more overhang than before

treaclesoda · 09/10/2018 18:22

I fitted into my jeans within about 48 hours, both times.

It's ironic though, because I would generally be someone who struggles with my weight. I have no idea why pregnancy didn't seem to have much effect on my weight.

IFeelSorryForMillie · 09/10/2018 18:55

2 years. Wasn't really trying though, and had a few stone to lose.

FourForYouGlenCoco · 09/10/2018 21:16

Within a few weeks all 3 times, but I changed shape quite significantly with each baby! I’m about half a stone heavier now than I was before my first pregnancy, but very tall so I carry it well, clothes still fit etc. My body is completely different though - 3 babies (plus multiple mcs) in 5 years takes its toll. I’m far too exhausted to care Grin

HashTagLil · 09/10/2018 21:21

25 years and counting....... sigh

WhatIsSleep123 · 09/10/2018 21:27

First baby - mid 20s, size 8, put on 3st during pregnancy, had emergency c-section, lost over 4.5st within a few months (without trying). I was underweight by the time I got back to work, so my clothes were too big.

Second baby - mid 30s, size 10, put on 2st during pregnancy but was 1st heavier to begin with. Lost 1st so far, baby is 6 months old. Nothing fits, I think my clothes shrunk! 😂 Breastfeeding makes me sooo hungry and thirsty all the time. It's actually making me put on weight.

OneStepSideways · 09/10/2018 21:41

About 2 weeks. My bump disappeared as soon as she was born, but the skin was a bit loose and wobbly where it had stretched. I used a Belly Bandit (bamboo wrap to support the abs) and also breastfed, apparently bf makes the womb shrink back faster and stimulates it to contract. Within 24 hours my maternity leggings wouldn't stay up so I was back in my old leggings. I was carrying a bit of extra fat on my hips initially but it all disappeared within 2 weeks.

Yerroblemom1923 · 10/10/2018 09:54

My dh turned up at the hospital, dd was about 12 hours old, with a pair of my pre-pregnancy jeans!!!???!!! I wept!
