to ask if you wear leggings?

CharlotteWebb · 07/10/2018 09:45

My DH keeps making comments about my leggings - he says things like "are all your other clothes in the wash?"

I always wear a longish, flowy top which covers my hips and bum. When I ask him why he's making these comments he just says he's joking and I need to get a sense of humour!

Are leggings just for very slim women?

CuriousaboutSamphire

Exactly. leggings are useful for and adaptable for all sorts of looks.

LagerthaTheShieldMaiden · 07/10/2018 11:08

Yes I wear leggings and don't feel the slightest need to cover my arse. They're comfy and I dress for myself not strangers in the street.

redsummershoes · 07/10/2018 11:10

I only wear them for running or in the gym.

I don't personally like them instead of trousers. and I think many are bad quality and thin too much at wider areas and show skin or pants through.

These aren't slobby

Aeroflotgirl · 07/10/2018 11:12

Good on you Largetha, you dress how you feel comfortable, I work out, I have a nice body, I think I look good in leggings. However, when I was much larger, I would wear nice tunics with them or dresses, as tights were uncomfortable, and trousers used to cut into my waist. The waistband on good quality leggings is soft and comfortable. You do not need to explain yourself to anybody, their problem if they don't like it.

BitOutOfPractice · 07/10/2018 11:12

I only really wear them in the house or to come home from the gym in after a shower. But that's mainly because I'm not a very casual dresser and I feel a bit scruffy in them.

Except my wet look leggings which I feel amazing in and wear a lot, with a big jumper at this time of year usually.

Op wear what you want. I think he's trying to tell you he doesn't like leggings very much. This thread shows that that is quite a common opinion.

IWishIHadEvenMorePlasticTat · 07/10/2018 11:12

Sounds like he's trying to hint that you've got into a style rut.

I know on MN people are supposed to be allowed to style their hair and clothes however the fuck they want and their partners are not allowed to express an opinion. But back in the real world, if DH suddenly started wearing nothing but unflattering tracksuits every day, I would definitely suggest he considered expanding his wardrobe. Not unkindly, but I don't see anything wrong in suggesting some improvements.

Seaweed42 · 07/10/2018 11:15

The main point here is that the OP's DH is making pointed remarks at her. I'd imagine her DH is stressed over something else entirely, so his need to control makes him criticise his loved ones.
The correct response to anything like this is - 'Woah! Nice comment! Who the fuck rattled your cage this morning?'.

WorraLiberty · 07/10/2018 11:16

I only wear them around the house as a kind of pyjamas bottoms

I think they're an 'ok look' on some people if they're going for casual and comfortable.

Bubbaduck · 07/10/2018 11:17

I wear them under dresses or tops that cover my bum and buy the thickest ones I can find. I've got a sizeable arse so I know if I wore a shorter top I'd be showing the underwear of the day to all and sundry even with thicker ones. I once had a delightful view of another mum's Hello Kitty underwear during our school run one day as we have a long hill to walk up and she was in front of us the whole way, in thin leggings and a short t-shirt.

MrsFoxPlus4 · 07/10/2018 11:18

I don’t care what anyone wears as long as it fits lol. I wear leggings they are comfy

thisneverendingsummer · 07/10/2018 11:19

What an arse your DH is. Does he want you wear a pretty little flowing dress for him, and sexy heels, and a nice floral low-cut blouse?

My DH tried to make suggestions on how I should dress when we first met. He only did it once.

Wear leggings every day if you want OP!

DwangelaForever · 07/10/2018 11:21

I only wear leggings when pregnant or post partum.

I'll maybe throw them on if I'm not leaving the house but I wouldn't go out in public wearing them. I'm a jeans type of person though, I don't think leggings are very flattering for my body shape.

UpstartCrow · 07/10/2018 11:22

The problem is not the leggings.
If your DH wanted an adult discussion he'd start one. He doesn't. He wants to make nasty comments and have you jump to it.
Telling you that you need to get a sense of humour isn't passive aggressive; its plain old aggressive.

ohtheholidays · 07/10/2018 11:22

I don't wear leggins but then I don't own any.

I live in skirts and dresses really,I have 3 pairs of jeans that I'll start wearing now and again when it gets really cold.

You said you have other pairs of leggins in different colours is he maybe wondering why your wearing the same one's all the time?

MarklahMarklah · 07/10/2018 11:28

I wear them rather than tights as I find then more comfortable. I wear them with dresses or tunic-type tops, and I wear them out of the house.
I'm sort and a bit overweight, but I dress to be comfortable and to please me. If other people have an opinion on what they think I ought to wear, that's up to them.

ForalltheSaints · 07/10/2018 11:28

I am a man.

My view of leggings is that they are suitable for no-one. I would not ban them as we live in an (almost) free society, but perhaps do something such as tax to put people off them.

Apart from appearance, I am concerned that leggings encourage denial of weight gain, especially where it gets to the level of being potentially health threatening. If you have to fit into jeans/trousers or even a dress, you may take more notice if you gain weight.

Same goes for men with tracksuit bottoms as well.

GerdaLovesLili · 07/10/2018 11:33

With the very greatest of respect ForalltheSaints FOTTFSOFATFOSM.

UpstartCrow · 07/10/2018 11:34

Well that just proves my point.

Thesearmsofmine · 07/10/2018 11:37

I wear leggings most days, I use them like tights so a dress, leggings and either ballet pumps or boots. I’m a sahm and they are comfy for crawling around soft play or going on walks in the woods or whatever.

I can’t stand jeans, even as a little girl I hated them, so uncomfortable, tights are fine sometimes but if I wore them daily I would spend a small fortune on them as I always get ladders in them.

MaisyPops · 07/10/2018 11:37

In my opinion they should be worn with longer tops, no pants should be on show, no bum crack, no camel toe.
Anyone who wears them as trousers so the world can see their genitals, ass crack or underwear should be shot.Grin

I bloody love leggings though.

Gah81 · 07/10/2018 11:37

I personally don't wear them. I think the fact they cut one off at the ankles makes them pretty unflattering and my style is relatively smart/dressed up so they don't really go . But life is too short not to wear things you like so if you feel good and comfy in them then go for it!

And saying that, I know a woman who wears above the knee jersey pencil skirts with leggings at the weekends and think it looks pretty good :)

CharlotteWebb · 07/10/2018 11:40

Forallthesaints

I love the way you start by saying 'I am a man' lol

But surely leggings are very versatile and can look good on some people i.e if they have a good figure and the leggings are good quality.

I love wearing leggings under skirts and dresses. I'm a size 12 and think the black ones are flattering to legs if the bum area is covered. I made the mistake of wearing pink for a while then i saw myself in a photograph and my legs looked like a pair of chunky sausages. Threw them away that day and sticking to black forever more.

thisneverendingsummer · 07/10/2018 11:46

BLAST A FANFARE!!

Heads up laydeees, a MAN has spoken. No woman shall wear leggings again.......... ever.

Leggings are now BANNED, because a man has spoken, and said HE DOESN'T LIKE THEM.

I am obviously kidding. Bore off forallthesaints

I wear leggings 2 or 3 times a week, but I shall wear them every day for the rest of October now, just to piss you off.

And I MAY suggest a tax on Viagra and internet porn, just to piss men off a bit. And charge men every time they stare at me.
