to ask if you wear leggings?

My DH keeps making comments about my leggings - he says things like "are all your other clothes in the wash?"

I always wear a longish, flowy top which covers my hips and bum. When I ask him why he's making these comments he just says he's joking and I need to get a sense of humour!

Are leggings just for very slim women?

I only wear skirts in the summer. I pretty much live in jeans and wear suits for work.

I think the more expensive dark leggings aren’t so bad the cheap ones that are a bit see through and you can see the pant line and cellulite are awful! Don’t know why anyone would wear those.

SnuggyBuggy · 07/10/2018 09:58

I knew someone who wore sheer tights as leggings with short tops. She didn't even have to be bending over for you to see her knickers Blush

ConciseandNice · 07/10/2018 09:59

I only wear them in the house as I think they tend to look scruffy unless they’re super expensive ones and god knows I can’t afford fancy leggings. I wear running tights though and they are as unforgiving as leggings.

Jaxtellerswife · 07/10/2018 09:59

Very much meGrin sounds like just a passing comment with no malice intended

to ask if you wear leggings?
Ignoramusgiganticus · 07/10/2018 09:59

I do because I think they are more flattering on a bigger woman with a long top/dress than skinny jeans and a shorter top. If I wear my long tops with skinny jeans I look wider still, because the jeans are more bulky.

TroysMammy · 07/10/2018 10:00

I'm wearing them now with a tunic dress that comes just above my knees. When I go out later I will be wearing knee high boots with them.
I'd never wear them inside or outside with a t-shirt though.

yikesanotherbooboo · 07/10/2018 10:01

Not fashionable or flattering but very comfortable and sort of reassuring.
I agree with you OP that your OH's comment is not necessarily a 'joke'. It depends on how many positive comments he makes really.

CharlotteWebb · 07/10/2018 10:01

Ok thanks everyone - leggings all the way then - I've just looked at him and said "Oh you're wearing that are you" - he looked mortified bless him!

Troysmammy - oh yes I love my knee high boots

Only under dresses at work with boots. They're warmer than tights.

Zoflorabore · 07/10/2018 10:04

I love them and am a size 18.

I've got about 20 pairs and have figured out which type are best for me.
Next ones are great, as are River Island but the nicest new ones I've bought recently have been from Matalan.

I got really thick ones, ones with pearls on, ones with lace at the bottom and some sporty ones. Also a pair of indigo jeggings. The sizing is generous and they wash lovely.

It's all about knowing your shape, knowing what suits you and having the confidence to wear your clothes.
You can be slim and dress badly and vice versa.

At the age of 40 I'm more confident than ever.

boolala12 · 07/10/2018 10:05

I'm size 10 and wouldn't wear leggings feel too self conscious horrible things

HidingFromMyKids · 07/10/2018 10:05

I only wear leggings, even before I was pregnant and always uncomfortable. I hate jeans and it's not dress weather anymore.

I'm not slim but I only care about comfort and what is practical for running around after kids etc.

I do agree about not wearing leggings as trousers I always wear long floaty tops/tunics/dresses. If it doesn't fully cover your bum you really shouldn't have the plain leggings on. It's awful when they are see through.
I think recently gym leggings have confused the issue but they are much thicker and for a purpose.

Wear what you feel comfortable in OP, as you say you cover your hips and bum its not exactly inappropriate.

Bluntness100 · 07/10/2018 10:07

I wear the mint velvet skirted ones, but only at home, I don't wear them out.

I think they can be fine, but with knee high boots and a long length top.

Did you not used to wear them all the time? Is it because you've put weight on, and that's why you think he's having a dig?

Likely he doesn't realise he's just commenting you wear the same thing a lot.

Camomila · 07/10/2018 10:07

Only in the house or instead of tights with a dress if its cold.
Still no reason for your husband to make mean jokes though!

hungryhippo90 · 07/10/2018 10:09

Erm? I love leggings, certainly no skinny Minnie.

I wear them with any longline top or jumper I can find, but in all truth it’s because they’re generally the only thing I can find that are tight around my knees!

HidingFromMyKids · 07/10/2018 10:09

Ooh look at that for advertising Wink

to ask if you wear leggings?
Gizzygizmo · 07/10/2018 10:11

I used to wear leggings all the time, my partner too did make comments I think because I wore them all the time.
I didn’t mind his comment and I did realise I really needed to update my wardrobe and start dressing for my age. I still wear them sometimes with long boots in the winter though.
If it’s what you like and feel comfortable in then take no notice x

Zoflorabore · 07/10/2018 10:13

The only thing I would add though is that they don't make it obvious when putting on weight.

Earlier in the year I started a new medication for my fibro and started to put weight on quite quickly but didn't notice straight away as leggings just grow with you!
If I was a jeans wearer then I would have noticed much sooner Grin

CharlotteWebb · 07/10/2018 10:15

Hiding - lol I wish my bum looked like that!

Zoflore - lol think my leggings are just growing with me too :)

HidingFromMyKids · 07/10/2018 10:17

Me too I would only wear them everywhere! Grin

starcrossedseahorse · 07/10/2018 10:17

I don't like them and don't wear them. I might wear them at a push for yoga or something but that would be all.

Not wild about the leggings and long top look that some people favour but then I tend to wear more tailored clothes these days as they flatter my body shape more (hourglass so I have to be very careful or I look like a lump in flowing things as you cannot see my waist).

Each to their own though. I am sure that you look lovely - ignore him!

SnowWhitesRestingBitchFace · 07/10/2018 10:17

I tend to wear jeans or skirts day to day but i love wearing leggings (I buy thick thermal type ones in black) with longer jumpers and boots. I also wear them at home.

My youngest is 4 months old and all I wore during pregnancy was leggings so I think I'm just over them atm.

Just wear what you want! If you're happy that's all that matters.

Treaclepie19 · 07/10/2018 10:19

I only wear leggings and dresses. Jeans are so uncomfortable these days, especially now I'm pregnant again.
