to ask if you wear leggings?

My DH keeps making comments about my leggings - he says things like "are all your other clothes in the wash?"

I always wear a longish, flowy top which covers my hips and bum. When I ask him why he's making these comments he just says he's joking and I need to get a sense of humour!

Are leggings just for very slim women?

I wear them all the time either with dresses or long tops. I never wear trousers or jeans. I'm wearing maternity leggings and a long jumper today, I wouldn't wear anything with them that didn't cover my bum but I have a big bum!

DerelictWreck · 07/10/2018 10:44

I wear leggings for work most days (office based) as long as bum is covered I don't see how they're any different from skinny jeans etc?

AjasLipstick · 07/10/2018 10:46

I used to but now I'm 46 I do feel like a slattern in them so only wear them in the house.

Now I wear tights with a dress or skirt in winter and bare legs in summer. Or trousers and jeans.

Orchiddingme · 07/10/2018 10:47

There's a deal of difference between cheap see-through black leggings with a short top, and high quality sports/yoga pants, for example. The (wealthy) students where I work all wear the latter and look amazing in them, although permanently on their way to the gym.

My husband just tells me directly if he doesn't like my clothes (too much black) and I gasp in horror at some of his old t-shirts that have been going over 20 years. You don't have to take any notice of each other.

newhousenewstart · 07/10/2018 10:47

I wear leggings ever day in the winter. They’re the thicker ones from TU ( not the cheap ones in a two pack which are too thin) I wear different little tunic dresses over the top and long cardigans. Maybe terribly boring for some people but I wear leggings as others would wear tights I think

newhousenewstart · 07/10/2018 10:48

Oh and alway with calf length boots

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 07/10/2018 10:48

Your DH could be paying you a compliment if what he means is that he likes to see your legs!

HazelBite · 07/10/2018 10:49

I think leggings are horrible!
its not about whether the wearer is fat or thin it is all about your shape and in my opinion there are very few people who look anywhere near okay in them.
Ladies they are unflattering on most figures whether you are a size 6 or size 28.
Great and comfy for doing your housework , and they look better if you are wearing boots, but I'm sorry those long flowing tops aren't nearly as long as you think they are!.
Wear them if you want, your choice , but when your DH . DP, BF makes a disparaging comment about them it is not a criticism of your figure its just how unflattering your leggings are.

Nevth · 07/10/2018 10:50

In my opinion, leggings are not trousers - it doesn't matter what size a woman is. With a long flowy top, maybe, but why not just wear some jeans? If the jeans are uncomfortable then they're the wrong jeans. The only acceptable time to wear leggings is to/at/from the gym (or under dresses as an alternative to tights).

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 07/10/2018 10:51

What's this thing about hiding your bum? A well structured pair of leggings should enhance it, like skinny jeans do

That s all very well if you have a bum worth enhancing. Most of the people I see wearing leggings without a long top have fat arses and cellulite. Not pretty.

maddiemookins16mum · 07/10/2018 10:52

I’m too fat for leggings.

Shednik · 07/10/2018 10:54

I'm not slim. I wear them with dresses. Because I want to.

Lethaldrizzle · 07/10/2018 10:56

I wear nice leggings. I don't hide my bum. It's too nice! No complaints from my dh

Aeroflotgirl · 07/10/2018 10:58

Wear them inside or out, who cares. I find them very comfy, especially in the winter. I get good quality leggings, not see through ones, and black. Jeans are cold in the winter, leggings do just fine, with a long jumper, or top.

Aeroflotgirl · 07/10/2018 10:59

All you see are my legs nothing else.

Aeroflotgirl · 07/10/2018 11:01

Very sad attitudes from women on here, don't think men have these clothes hang ups.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 07/10/2018 11:03

I’m too fat for leggings. Whereas I wear them because I am fat!

I don't like tights. I don't wear jeans because, let me see, I work for a living! My short leggings under skirts and dresses allow me to do my job, which includes checking under furniture and crawling round on the floor reading utility meters, without feeling like I ma flashing anyone.

My long ones are more comfortable that tights, worn inside tall boots they look perfectly smart.

The weird snobbery against them is amusing, but also insulting to those of us who choose to wear them for our own reasons! Why would any women choose to insult another woman based on a perception of how she looks?

Lethaldrizzle · 07/10/2018 11:04

I know, I had no idea my leggings (and what's under) were being scrutinised so much

GerdaLovesLili · 07/10/2018 11:04

I hope no-one thinks these leggings are a good idea...

Chocolatecoffeeaddict · 07/10/2018 11:04

I have a very round sticky out bum. Even while slim I've always got a wiggly behind. I've always had nothing but compliments from my DH and other men however, leggings look my ass look very obvious and I prefer to draw the attention away.

AngeloMysterioso · 07/10/2018 11:04

I only wear sports leggings, and that’s only ever if I’m doing a sporting activity. Casual leggings worn as bottoms (as opposed to an alternative to tights under a dress) are just a bit slobbish IMO, sorry!

CuriousaboutSamphire · 07/10/2018 11:06

For every Walmart picture you can find there will be one like this

to ask if you wear leggings?
Asterado · 07/10/2018 11:06

I wear them with anything round the house (currently sporting a jumper and leggings with a massive hole in Grin) and out of the house under a dress tights are evil or a long top.

There’s nothing wrong with them. I don’t care what anybody thinks and I certainly don’t let people have an opinion on what I should wear. Your DP doesn’t sound at all humorous to me.

Gersemi · 07/10/2018 11:07

Every time he mentions your leggings, ask him to explain the joke.

grumiosmum · 07/10/2018 11:07

I only wear leggings to go running in.

Although if I've been for a late afternoon/ evening run I often don't bother to change out of them.

They aren't proper clothes IMHO, any more than pyjama trousers are.
