to ask if you wear leggings?

My DH keeps making comments about my leggings - he says things like "are all your other clothes in the wash?"

I always wear a longish, flowy top which covers my hips and bum. When I ask him why he's making these comments he just says he's joking and I need to get a sense of humour!

Are leggings just for very slim women?

'Are leggings just for very slim women'

Leggings are for anyone who wants to wear them in my opinion. As long as the wearer is a nice person to me if I interact with them or doesn't bother me and goes about their business I couldn't give a shit.

Dress for yourself - not others 👍🏻

Bananasinpyjamas11 · 08/10/2018 17:58

I’m going against the grain and saying no to leggings!

I used to, and like you OP my DP said he didn’t think they did anything for me. After telling him to go do one, I had a think...
...and he was right!

Jeggings soft comfy yes though instead.

aspoonfulofyourownmedicine · 08/10/2018 17:59

I only wear leggings - well sometimes I'll wear loose jersey type trousers in the summer, but they're just like loose leggings with a tapered bottom.. I have pairs of jeggings but don't feel as comfy in them. I wear leggings with long jumpers in the Autumn/Winter with boots and leggings with long tops/knee length dresses in the summer with sandals.

I have about 10 pairs of black leggings, so although people at work may think I'm scruffy and wear the same pair every day, I really don't, my washing line will tell a different story.

I always wear leggings. They're comfy. I wouldn't wear them without a long top or dress though because you can usually see knickers through them. I say wear whatever makes you comfy Smile

Cookies2015 · 08/10/2018 18:05

Yes love a pair of leggings. Tend to wear with a long top unless around the house where I wear them fwith a t but usually I'm doing chores. Tend to wear jeans to work which is in a school

TheFormidableMrsC · 08/10/2018 18:16

I wear leggings all the time! My favourite "leggings" outfit is with biker boots and an oversized sweat dress. My rules are that they have to be thick, that whatever I am wearing over them is just above the knee and that my arse isn't exposed if I bend over. I recommend the Tu at Sainsbury's luxury leggings. They are soft, thick and not at all see through, also high waisted so no slippage. I have them black, navy and charcoal. Mint Velvet have some gorgeous ones with an ankle zip. Don't be put off, just style them properly. I am 49.

Also, wear what the hell you like Smile

Mummadeeze · 08/10/2018 18:25

I am wearing ‘cosy’ leggings today which are extra warm. I love them. I am wearing them under a black floral print dress and black cardigan with knee high boots. I think I look nice (am a size 14 so not fat or thin really).

Strongmummy · 08/10/2018 18:38

Tell him his jokes are shit and to grow up

Lostinlondon999 · 08/10/2018 18:41

I wear the same as you everyday. I’m overweight as well. I personally think leggings were made for larger people. We can squeeze whatever we want into them.
BUT I don’t really like the legging look tbh. I feel like it’s what someone puts on because they can’t be bothered. Although as I already know it’s to do with feeling shite about my vody

Middersweekly · 08/10/2018 19:07

Hell to the yeah! Leggings are the comfiest items in my wardrobe! Who the hell would wear jeans over leggings? They are quite frankly a godsend to all women regardless of size! Bloated=wear leggings, that time of the month=leggings, school run=leggings!

Hungryagain · 08/10/2018 19:08

I only ever wear them in the house/for bed, I have huge massive legs & thighs so am very self conscious & even black leggings I find are see through so people can see my belly smacker knickers too Confused I live in jeans.

AuntyJackiesBrothersSistersBoy · 08/10/2018 19:13

You know what LostIn these threads make me smile. Recently, we (as a family) have had a run of disasters. I won’t go into detail but, frankly, I’m amazed I just keep on keeping on. I could do with losing a stone. I don’t look great in anything much but, who cares, really. I’ve washed 5 pairs of blacked leggings today. Covered in mud and dog hair. If the women I walk dogs with really disapprove, I really don’t give a fig!

Don’t be hard on yourself Lostin

I wear leggings because I struggle to get jeans to fit my humongous thighs. Weird huh?

Asthenia · 08/10/2018 21:13

I wear leggings every day. Don’t even own a pair of jeans or trousers, just leggings. They’re so comfy. I wear two pairs so they’re not see-through, which also keeps you warm in the winter. I’m far from slim but I always look clean and presentable.

Tunnocks34 · 08/10/2018 21:30

I wear work out leggings but, I don’t work out I just like ‘active wear’. It’s comfy, stretchy and when my kids get snot/food/christ knows whatever else on me it wipes off easily.

whitehousemum · 08/10/2018 21:34

I wear them most days, under pencil skirts - my job involves crawling around on the floor after children whilst trying to look professional so it's the solution I have come up with! Plus when I get home I can just take the skirt off, put a different top on and go running or do yoga.Dual purpose!

RedStef1983 · 08/10/2018 22:21

For me, leggings are lazy clothes, the equivalent of PJs - around the house is fine but not for public. The only exception is under a dress with boots, so in place of tights.

Bluntness100 · 08/10/2018 22:38

The thing about leggings though is unless you're aware of your weight, it's very easy to gain or lose and not be aware of it, or the full extent of it, because they shrink or grow with you.

Where as you put on more structured clothing, like jeans and you know immediately if they are too tight or getting loose.

Leggings can lead you into a sort of denial about what's going on really.

TomPinch · 09/10/2018 00:26

Do guys have similar conversations? "Do you wear jeans or tracksuit bottoms?"

Not in my (male) experience.

I think clothes that showed a manly bulge might attract adverse comment from other men.

The vast majority of comments on my appearance come from women, even when I don't include DW.

mishfish · 09/10/2018 00:29

I wear them a lot, but never at work.

I have a problem with my knee and jeans/trousers seem to restrict my already limited movement, whereas leggings don’t seem to

Purpleartichoke · 09/10/2018 01:58

I wear leggings all winter. I wear them with short dresses or long tops. I am not slim.

Tell him the same knock knock joke ten times tonight.

Point out when he remarks that you have already told that joke that it is indeed true, and that you hope he now realises that jokes are not funny the second/fifth/tenth time round.

If he groans at knock knock jokes agree with him that, yes indeed, not everyone's taste in humour is the same, and why should one person's sense of humour be inflicted on another more than once when it is clear the other person does not find it funny.

Armchairanarchist · 09/10/2018 02:57

I'd only wear black leggings under a dress in cooler weather with long boots. I'm a size 8/10. I hate tights.
