to ask if you wear leggings?

My DH keeps making comments about my leggings - he says things like "are all your other clothes in the wash?"

I always wear a longish, flowy top which covers my hips and bum. When I ask him why he's making these comments he just says he's joking and I need to get a sense of humour!

Are leggings just for very slim women?

Wait a mo!

OP has another thread, moaning about men with earrings! Deriding her BIL for looking funny and ugly with is pierced ears.

Maybe Charlotte your DH was giving you a taste of your own unpleasant medicine! Or maybe you are both judgemental twonks!

Don't know, but do feel less sympathy than I did when I started responding here!

GooseDownCreek · 07/10/2018 13:51

I don't like the look of them on me or anyone else. They are presumably comfortable on others, I find they just ride down so I don't even wear them for gym / yoga.
They are the modern equivalent of a shell suit. Unflattering but comfortable and if you don't care what you look like then go ahead but please wear a long top.

TooManyPaws · 07/10/2018 13:51

Ooh, thanks, MaisyPops. That might be ideal for under joggers for weekends in a Scottish rural cottage with no central heating! 😂 at the Fashion Police's no doubt views on that. 🤣

Diva1985 · 07/10/2018 13:52

I wear leggings to the gym. I wouldn't be seen dead wearing them anywhere else. They are awful.

cinnabarmoth · 07/10/2018 13:53

I wear leggings under long jumpers and dresses in place of tights. I do wear tights to go out in, but I like shortish dresses and would feel a little too dressed up or self conscious in tights a lot of the time. Also I have slim legs and a bit of a tummy and find it hard to get tights to stay up, another reason I prefer leggings. I do occasionally wear jeans but because of the flabby middle find that jeans aren't that flattering. I think leggings are very versatile.

MaisyPops · 07/10/2018 13:54

TooManyPaws
They're amazing. Also make a cheap alternative for walking base layers.

I wear them on their own with jumper dresses.

I doubt the fashion police care tbh. I think I've been judged as being part of the anti feminist fashion police for thinking it's not anti feminist to think your flaps should be covered in public. Grin

Therealjudgejudy · 07/10/2018 13:58

I wear running leggings in the gym only. I'm a size 8.

I say wear what you want.

Chanelprincess · 07/10/2018 14:02

Not outside the house unless they’re being used as a tights substitute under a dress

Agree - otherwise they look like the person can't be bothered making any effort with their appearance. Leggings are awful.

Sailinghappy · 07/10/2018 14:11

I don’t wear leggings except in the gym - ugly things! Having said that, it really is your decision what you wear and life would be very dull if we all and the same taste! Do as you please, it sounds as though your husband is just playing with you, don’t take it to heart

Gizzygizmo · 07/10/2018 14:52

**Yet funnily enough men's clothing never seems to come under nearly as much scrutiny. I wonder why.

You will find men do... men who wear baggy jeans half way down their arse, the ones in their 30-40’s still in a full Adidas tracksuits.
Both male and females will receive both positive and negative opinions.

JacquesHammer · 07/10/2018 14:54

Isn’t “effort” entirely subjective?

FlotSHAMnJetson · 07/10/2018 14:56

My husband loves them, something to do with bottoms :D

Personally I think they're a pain as you have to chose your pants wisely, unfortunately being above average height wearing a longer top to cover my VPL doesn't work!

Not even a nice middle-class pair of leggings?

MaisyPops · 07/10/2018 15:09

Lethaldrizzle
They're very naice but the foof should always be covered in leggings (in my opinion)... even if they are middle class leggings. Smile

Strugglingtodomybest · 07/10/2018 15:09

Glad you got it sorted OP!

Geekster1963 · 07/10/2018 15:11

I hate wearing leggings because I feel too ‘enclosed’ in them. I wear lose tracksuit bottoms which look worse than leggings! I can’t bear any tight fitting clothes. X

flamingofridays · 07/10/2018 15:16

Yep all the time! Always with tops that cover my arse. I dont think i look scruffy at all. I dont suit anything wide leg so i have an array of leggings and skinny jeans. Im a tall size 12for reference but i dont think they're just for thin women at all!

QueenCuntyFlippers · 07/10/2018 15:20

I wear them for work under dresses (I work in early years and spend a lot of time on the floor 😂)
As long as they are thick and not cheap baggy ones they are fine.

Polarbearflavour · 07/10/2018 16:10

Under dresses all the time!

JustDanceAddict · 07/10/2018 16:18

YeS but only ever black! I wear tunic tops or for exercise and then I’ll wear long t-shirt or hoody. I am relatively slim though.

DaisyDreaming · 07/10/2018 16:33

This threads making me paranoid as I wear them all the time!

MaisyPops · 07/10/2018 16:56

DaisyDreaming
No need to be paranoid.
I love my leggings too.

Anyone with common sense knows an item of clothing can look nice/presentable or scruffy/ridiculous depending on how it's worn.

Leggings with bum and flaps covered with long top, dress, tunic etc can look lovely.
Leggings that are worn as a trouser substitute, so thin your pants are on show and a short top looks silly.
Nobody sensible would view the 2 the same.

Tallzarazara · 07/10/2018 17:18

Maisypops I didn't accuse you of being anti feminist.

There were over 200 posts on this thread and mine certainly wasn't directed at you.

I would certainly agree that like leggings, like most clothes, can look scruffy and can look perfectly nice, depending on the quality of the leggings and what they're worn with.

Some of the posts on here however are just awful.

TheFluffyHippo · 07/10/2018 17:33

I wear them every day under skirts/ dresses instead of tights. Much warmer, much more comfortable, they don’t fall down when I’m walking or bunch around the ankles, and they’re less revealing than tights if the wind should happen to blow my skirt over my head I have legs that are both long and fat so I find it difficult to find tights that fit. Never had a problem with leggings. Cropped ones in summer, long ones in winter. Perfect!

I used to get mine from New Look but I found they’d rip on the inside seam really quickly. Now I get them all from Evans and they’re much better quality. I’ve had one pair for over two years and they’re like new.

MaisyPops · 07/10/2018 17:34

Tallzarazara I didnt think yours was.
More that some people of the view 'I'll wear what I like because it's comfy' might think my 'please don't have your pants out view of leggings to be a bit off.
