Ahh I've been wanting to tidy up my active threads for ages but just assumed that because it's not something I can do on my phone then it mustn't be possible anymore.
Thanks for this! I'm off to the desktop site to customise....

I had to hide the “preppers” topic as it was making me anxious all the time.

Love the feminism board though.

I am a strident feminist but I’ve hidden the topic on MN because I don’t recognise the feminism I find here, which is virtually synonymous with transphobia and so obsessed with transgenderism that other seriously important feminist topics - such as abortion rights, sex education, rape, gender-specific racism, gender-specific ableism, immigration, wage gap, mental health etc all barely get a look in.

To be fair, if the definition of 'woman' changes so that it includes men, and we don't have any workable definition of the sexes, then it's going to become a hell of a lot harder to discuss all of the topics you have listed above.

But I wouldn't berate anyone for wanting to hide the Feminism topics if they feel like it's clogging up their active, fair enough.

Flashbac

“After all, the suffragettes were hysterical idiots and women didn't need the vote.”

No one is saying thus

Posted too soon. No one is saying this!!! We just don’t want to listen to your transphobic bullshit all day long.

So why don’t you take your straw man and stick it...

The feminism topic on here gives mn a bad name.

It should be renamed transphobia.

@AuntBeastie That’s how I feel exactly! Well said.

That's why the hide topic feature was introduced. There if you want it, hidden if you dont. Win win.

I can’t get this to work! I’ve gone in through Safari on my phone but when I click the link somebody put above, it says I have to be on a desktop.

Report
SummerGems · 02/10/2018 21:24

@Dancer12345 at the bottom of the mobile page there’s a link which says “desktop site,” if you click that on your phone then it’ll expand the site to the desktop version. You have to click back to the previous page you were on first, then click desktop and then click the link above.

And huge thanks to whoever posted that link - my active looks so so so much better now.

In all honesty i hid it because i didn't understand it and it clogged upmy active threads.

So glad to have found this thread. I didn’t realise you could hide whole topics. Can’t bear the constant nastiness and catastrophising.

So glad to have found this thread and to be able to hide feminism. The transphobic nature of the threads and nastiness of it all drives me mad.

@SummerGems Thanks, done it! Never knew there were so many topics on here, but have now removed loads of them!

Yes *MonteStory” it’s the catastrophising and the nastiness! Can’t cope with it.

Just so you know, MN will delete any transphobic posts, so if you see any please do report.

Yeah I’ve experienced ‘peak’ mumsnet trans discussion. I am absolutely a feminist, very interested in feminist issues. I think there are problems with the rhetoric of many trans activists, but as pp said the catastrophising here on mumsnet is unnecessary, the endless repetition of themes is dull and the pulling apart of trans women I’ve seen, (some of whom are not in the public eye, but have popped up in a local paper story or whatever) is nasty.

Hurrah, I'm so glad ive read this too! @auntbeastie sums up my thoughts completely. Such a shame as I used to find the posts in the Feminism board really interesting.. not anymore. Can you do this on a mobile?

I regularly do, but rarely see them deleted. MN has adopted a very watered down definition of transphobia and will only delete posts which contain very specific banned words. It’s an issue in other areas as well - I’ve seen them let racist posts stand because they don’t contain technical ‘hate speech’. Some equality and diversity training for the mods would be very helpful in my view.

Yes

This

Catastrophising. And taking the piss out of individuals’ personal appearances.
