To think this would be a good name?

Before I start I am not pregnant or TTC or even thinking of giving a child this name

Calamari.

If you don't know what it is - it's fried squid. I did not even know this until a few months ago. I thought of the name Camari and suddenly, there it was! Calamari popped up into my mind somehow. I searched it to see the origin ect. and such and found out it wasn't a name for a human but for squid dishes.

I still think it's so sweet sounding, like Lily or another traditional name. Say Calamari was actually a flower, it would be an unusual but beautiful name.

So, if you forgot the squid thing and heard Calamari, what would you think? Does it sound like a good name?

Confused
HopeGarden · 30/09/2018 21:52

I’m sorry, but I just can’t forget the squid thing! 🦑

What about Tahini. That would also make a good name. Or Oregano.

This advertisement would suggest otherwise:

Bookworm33 · 30/09/2018 21:53

No. Not a good name

MayhemandMadness01 · 30/09/2018 21:53

Are you on glue?

Aintnothingbutaheartache · 30/09/2018 21:53

Oh love, what can I say🙄 calamari is not, never will be and certainly never should be a good name for a child

Kingavon · 30/09/2018 21:53

I’ve always liked Taramasalata for a girl

Ansumpasty · 30/09/2018 21:54

It is pretty sounding, but only in the way that ‘octopus’ sounds like some tough warrior guy.

DaveyouareanuttertwatDave · 30/09/2018 21:54

I like marmite....for a boy or girl

Aintnothingbutaheartache · 30/09/2018 21:55

Reminds me of people calling their kid Melaena.

VladmirsPoutine · 30/09/2018 21:55

Why not just go the whole hog and name the baby 'squid' should you ever have a baby. It's unisex and 'squiddy' seems quite a cute nickname.

cricketmum84 · 30/09/2018 21:55

No, no and double no.

Please let this be a joke post 😂

SouthWestmom · 30/09/2018 21:56

I think this a lot op. In fact many years ago I started a thread on nouns that would be good names.

Like celery for a girl

Or spiral for a boy

Or paper - unisex

KindergartenKop · 30/09/2018 21:56

My friend's mum wanted to call my friend Chlamydia.

garethsouthgatesmrs · 30/09/2018 21:57

I think most people do know calamari is squid though. How about escargot?

SinglePringle · 30/09/2018 21:57

Why don’t you got for something like Chlamydia Rose OP?

marmitec · 30/09/2018 21:57

I suppose it's subjective really.

Like Elizabeth might sound very elegant and darling to someone, and to another it may sound like nails on a chalkboard. Calamari - forgetting the squid thing - sounds nice to me.

Never, ever will I saddle a child with the name though!

Mummadeeze · 30/09/2018 21:58

This made me laugh. You really can’t call a child calamari, it is like calling them sardine or pilchard.

Aintnothingbutaheartache · 30/09/2018 21:58

My mates got twins called Tatsiki and Hummus. It’s just a bit unfortunate that their surname is Pita

Warpdrive · 30/09/2018 21:58

Scampi is nice for a girl

arethereanyleftatall · 30/09/2018 21:58

It's a very well known food op.
And it's sweet of you to say 'if you dont know what it is', but I would hazard a guess that every other poster does indeed know what it is.
