To think this would be a good name?

Before I start I am not pregnant or TTC or even thinking of giving a child this name

Calamari.

If you don't know what it is - it's fried squid. I did not even know this until a few months ago. I thought of the name Camari and suddenly, there it was! Calamari popped up into my mind somehow. I searched it to see the origin ect. and such and found out it wasn't a name for a human but for squid dishes.

I still think it's so sweet sounding, like Lily or another traditional name. Say Calamari was actually a flower, it would be an unusual but beautiful name.

So, if you forgot the squid thing and heard Calamari, what would you think? Does it sound like a good name?

I kind of get you OP. It would of made a good girls name had the squid not claimed it first!

I quite like isosceles - for a boy obviously Grin

Oddcat · 30/09/2018 22:20

I'm with you Op ! Calamari has a nice pretty ring to it ( obvs ignoring the squid thing ).

madeoficecream · 30/09/2018 22:20

Aioli yes!!

Paprika!

Oddcat · 30/09/2018 22:21

Chemise would also make a nice girls name .

madeoficecream · 30/09/2018 22:22

actually you could probably get away with Paprika, just about... if you can have Saffron and Sage...

can you get away with Mint as a boys name? That is the question!?

IthinkIsawahairbrushbackthere · 30/09/2018 22:23

I would say it is definitely a pretty sound. I remember a friend of mine saying that she thought Sardine sounded very glamorous.

Aintnothingbutaheartache · 30/09/2018 22:23

Why are so many people agreeing that it’s a good name!?!
What is wrong with you people?!

onalongsabbatical · 30/09/2018 22:24

The fantasy child of Nicola Sturgeon, I give you - Calamari Sushi Sturgeon.

TatianaLarina · 30/09/2018 22:25

My sister has a dog called Scampi.

onalongsabbatical · 30/09/2018 22:25

Well, if we're going onto herbs there's Basil and Rosemary - and Parsley the lion!

Oddcat · 30/09/2018 22:26

It's a rubbish name because squid have already nabbed it and squid are horrible. If squid were called something else , then Calamari could be used as a girls name .

Petalflowers · 30/09/2018 22:26

I can understand where you are coming from.

I always thought Rubella (mix of Ruby and Ella) would make a nice sounding name, if it weren’t a disease.

TatianaLarina · 30/09/2018 22:26

Meanwhile Camari is actually a name.

onalongsabbatical · 30/09/2018 22:27

TatianaLarina my friend has a goldfish called spaniel!
No, I'm making it up.

Aintnothingbutaheartache · 30/09/2018 22:27

And her brother Marlin Roe

Oddcat · 30/09/2018 22:27

Latrine .

GabsAlot · 30/09/2018 22:27

no its ok we know what calamari is

and all it does it make me hungry

Buggerbrexit · 30/09/2018 22:28

It would be shellfish to give a kid it as a name.

Glumglowworm · 30/09/2018 22:29

I get it

If you disconnect it from its meaning, it sounds pretty and not dissimilar from other girls names

However in the real world you can’t just ignore the meaning of words so you’d be out of your mind to actually use it as a name for a human!

SerenDippitty · 30/09/2018 22:29

I always thought Rubella (mix of Ruby and Ella) would make a nice sounding name, if it weren’t a disease

Ditto Chlamydia. Twins Candida and Chlamydia.....

Nigella sounds like a bacterium. Clostridium Nigella....

marmitec · 30/09/2018 22:30

@aintnothingbutaheartache Most of the replies are sarcastic and the ones agreeing it's a good name are actually agreeing that it sounds nice. Say Rose and Calamari switched places - anyone named Rose would have the piss taken out of them despite Rose being a gorgeous name (to some, as it's subjective) because of its meaning.

I'm glad some of the replies are at least answering my question, but I'm also glad I've given people a bit of a laugh tonight.

Such a shame so many lovely sounding words are the names for food or animals or diseases.

Are you related to Kath and Kim OP? Grin

MothershipG · 30/09/2018 22:35

I totally get you OP.
W also liked sensemilla for a girl, but I guess drug references are just as unacceptable as nice sounding squid dishes. 😊😉😂

PurpleAndTurquoise · 30/09/2018 22:37

You could spell it Kalahmahry to make it yoonique.

viques · 30/09/2018 22:37

Nutella, now there's a good gender fluid name .
