To think this would be a good name?

Before I start I am not pregnant or TTC or even thinking of giving a child this name

Calamari.

If you don't know what it is - it's fried squid. I did not even know this until a few months ago. I thought of the name Camari and suddenly, there it was! Calamari popped up into my mind somehow. I searched it to see the origin ect. and such and found out it wasn't a name for a human but for squid dishes.

I still think it's so sweet sounding, like Lily or another traditional name. Say Calamari was actually a flower, it would be an unusual but beautiful name.

So, if you forgot the squid thing and heard Calamari, what would you think? Does it sound like a good name?

Another great name is Melaena which means poo with blood in. I kid you not I know a child with this name!
In this day and age of Google there is no excuse really lol.

starkid · 30/09/2018 22:40

I get what you're saying, it does sound like a nice, exotic name if it wasn't the name for squid, you're right. Damn shame!

RayRayBidet · 30/09/2018 22:40

Mirena is a lovely name.

Crunchymum · 30/09/2018 22:42

Love Isoscelese and Chemise (were they from the same poster?)

A kind of take on Ignacio and Camille? Grin

Buggerbrexit · 30/09/2018 22:45

Calla - like the lily, Mhari?

WelcomeToGreenvale · 30/09/2018 22:46

Are you being reminded of calla lilies?

Vonvon222 · 30/09/2018 23:08

Only if you're surname is Ward...

Little Baby Squidward for short.

DN4GeekinDerby · 30/09/2018 23:08

The sound is pretty though I can't separate it from the squid. Might be a fun name for a pet. A cat named Calamari.

There have been people name Floride so I wouldn't be entirely surprised if someone has used Calamari at some point though.

Thecurtainsofdestiny · 30/09/2018 23:09

Trout for her twin brotherGrin

lottiegarbanzo · 30/09/2018 23:09

Ok OP, how about Callista, Calliope or Kumari, which are all real names - though worth checking meanings with those too Wink

Buggerbrexit · 30/09/2018 23:10

@welcometogreenvale

Yep, that makes it an acceptable name surely? Calla-Mhari. Sorted. Floral- Scottish.

RibbonAurora · 30/09/2018 23:19

I get what you're saying OP. Calamari does have a nice rhythmic rise and fall to it Ca-la-MA-ri.

Anchovy sounds like it would make a good name too also Merlot and Melanoma and Rubella and Patina.

Oh bloody hell you've got me Going down a weird rabbit-hole of words that sound nice but aren't nice or appropriate as names!

ProfessionallyUnoffended · 30/09/2018 23:24

How about Ribena for a girl?!

ValidUser · 30/09/2018 23:33

@RayRayBidet yes, Mirena Coyle.

OP, I get you. I've nodded and laughed a lot tonight.

Mum2OneTeen · 30/09/2018 23:33

Ha! There's an advert in Australia on the telly atm with a new father being asked to name his son.

He straightaway states that Callum is the baby's name. The new dad then gets visions of his son being laughed at throughout his life when he says that his name is Callum Murray. Which when said with an Australian accent sounds like Calamari!

Don't do it!

MarcieBluebell · 30/09/2018 23:39

One for neighbours. But toadfish and sonja don't seem to be ttc atm.

Peacockfeathers789 · 01/10/2018 00:02

I always liked the name Sarin, until I realised it was also a weapon of mass destruction

QuimNiceButDim · 01/10/2018 00:19

Such a shame so many lovely sounding words are the names for food or animals or diseases

Or cars.
That’s why I didn’t call my lad Lada.

CatOwned · 01/10/2018 00:24

It could work as an Italian surname.

"Calamari, Giovanni Calamari, but my friends call me Squid."

PickAChew · 01/10/2018 00:26

Of you've never seen Shirley Valentine. You should watch her musing on the name, Clitoris.

RedDwarves · 01/10/2018 00:28

This reminds me of when my little cousin insisted she was going to call her first daughter "Cathedral".

No surprises that she didn't. A nice sound does not a good name make.

jcyclops · 01/10/2018 01:22

Calamari could be a middle name eg. Kate Freya Calamari Bucket (pronounced Bouquet of course) - KFC Bucket would be a great name.

Beeziekn33ze · 01/10/2018 01:32

How about Calamine?
Or L'Oreal?
Both sound pleasant!

PawneeParksDept · 01/10/2018 01:49

What have you been drinking, and can I have some?!

Tinkety · 01/10/2018 01:51

I always quite liked Listerine for a girl
