To think this would be a good name?

Before I start I am not pregnant or TTC or even thinking of giving a child this name

Calamari.

If you don't know what it is - it's fried squid. I did not even know this until a few months ago. I thought of the name Camari and suddenly, there it was! Calamari popped up into my mind somehow. I searched it to see the origin ect. and such and found out it wasn't a name for a human but for squid dishes.

I still think it's so sweet sounding, like Lily or another traditional name. Say Calamari was actually a flower, it would be an unusual but beautiful name.

So, if you forgot the squid thing and heard Calamari, what would you think? Does it sound like a good name?

Calamari - forgetting the squid thing - sounds nice to me

It's kind of hard to forget the whole squid thing though 😂😂😂

I guess it could be worse -a mum in our village has called her little girl ‘TreSemme’ - like the brand of shampoo.

Pinkyponkcustard · 01/10/2018 06:40

I think sequin would be a fab yoonique name.

This is like Alicia Douvall who has had all that ghastly plastic surgery. She called her daughter........... Papaya!!!😂 😂 😂 😂

ColinsVeryJolly · 01/10/2018 07:55

DS2 who is 13, in all seriousness said a few months back, “if I ever have a daughter, I’ll call her Paprika”

He thinks it’s the prettiest name ever. Hopefully any future partner won’t agree.

LordOfTheFleas · 01/10/2018 10:03

There's a Coriander on The Archers.

Well, she's the daughter of one of the characters, not sure if she shows up much.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 01/10/2018 10:11

I know this is a joke thread but I've always thought Israel would be a nice name!

vampirethriller · 01/10/2018 10:14

I knew a drag queen once called Tara Masalata.

nellieellie · 01/10/2018 10:14

Think is as said above, I’d say most people know what Calamari is. And naming a child after a weird fishy rubbery thing you eat is Not A Good Idea. Unless you move to a parallel universe. And even then......

user789653241 · 01/10/2018 11:01

Karamari(though r is pronounced in between r and l so similar to calamari), means entangled in Japanese. Also sounds similar to Katamari, which means chunk, clod, or clump.
Not a nice name at all.

LoisWilkerson1 · 01/10/2018 11:02

It's no worse than Levi, Chardonnay, Ford, Montana, Wolf etc One of my dc has a name that we didn't know was an intimate object in another country. Blush

LoisWilkerson1 · 01/10/2018 11:02

Inanimate object not intimate

user789653241 · 01/10/2018 11:12

I was wondering what intimate object was! Grin

LordOfTheFleas · 01/10/2018 11:23

@irvineoneohone Me too! I was imagining a poor child accidentally named Dildo or something! Grin

LoisWilkerson1 · 01/10/2018 11:29

Arf at DildoGrin Intimate object would have been funnier, I should have left that uncorrected.

user789653241 · 01/10/2018 11:34

Yeah, it would have kept us wondering!

stepmummamumma · 01/10/2018 12:08

When I worked in the jungle in South America the local people often named their children after things they thought were western and had heard or seen written down but didn't understand. So when I was there I met a Malaria, a Gillette, and a Stalin. You would fit right in OP!! Grin

FruitofAutumn · 01/10/2018 12:59

what about chlamydia, that's quite similar to Calamari?

FruitofAutumn · 01/10/2018 13:01

Agggg. Sorry. Tried to make a new thread Blush

MrsStrowman · 01/10/2018 15:36

I thought the name suggestion was going to be Ocado, given how many other threads there are about them today!

iklboo · 01/10/2018 15:39

what about chlamydia, that's quite similar to Calamari?

We used to tell people (completely straight faced) that we'd picked Chlamydia for a girl and Lucifer for a boy.

Furx · 01/10/2018 16:10

ROFL @ Latrine. (For a girl, obvs)

I think Trainee sounds nice, Especially if you say it with a French accent.
