Do you iron as and when or straight after wash?

Me and DH have different opinions on this. I iron once the item is out the wash and dry so I have a pile on Sunday. DH will just put everything away once dry and iron things only as and when they are needed. This does mean that sometimes I'll get something out the wardrobe expecting to just get dressed and go but find that it is all creased.
So, who is BU?

I iron everything except my own clothes lol. It gets creased. DH prefers it ironed.

Thelastredwinegum · 30/09/2018 19:35

As and when and then only if it really needs it.

Poodles1980 · 30/09/2018 19:36

I don’t iron anything. Fold warm from tumble dryer and iron if and only when something is required. Dh irons his own stuff but does it once a week

RayRayBidet · 30/09/2018 19:38

Ironing? What's that?

Pebblespony · 30/09/2018 19:38

We iron nothing here. Most clothes don't need it. Others hung up to dry on hangers or hung up straight out of drier. Anything needing ironing isn't really worn.

MrsTerryPratchett · 30/09/2018 19:39

What is this 'iron' of which you speak?

PristineCondition · 30/09/2018 19:39

I haven’t ironed since I left home at 16

Dodie66 · 30/09/2018 19:40

No ironing here either. Tumble dry and fold when still warm

Amaaboutthis · 30/09/2018 19:40

Once a week, usually on a Sunday. I iron all shirts and all tshirts as I’m obsessed with getting the necks flat so they hang better but it only takes me about 20 mins a week

ButtermilkBiscuits · 30/09/2018 19:40

I try to avoid ironing as much as possible. Sadly my parents bought DS some lovely shirts that must be ironed so I'll have to sort them before we visit in November. Sad

Jenala · 30/09/2018 19:40

I have one item of clothing that needs ironing as it can look a bit creased. Everything else is ignored.

Sometimes I don't even iron that I just hang it up in the bathroom while I'm showering and let the steam sort it out a bit.

LetsHaveAnotherGo · 30/09/2018 19:41

I do it as and when but would really like to start doing it all at once and have all my clothes hanging up, leaving me able to choose to wear anything at any time!

I think this is partly why I always feel so scruffy - I don't always have time to iron so always end up just throwing the same stuff on when I actually have some really nice clothes.

DitheringBlidiot · 30/09/2018 19:41

I don’t iron anything. If it’s dried strategically it doesn’t need ironing. Obviously exceptions are made for formal events like weddings etc but I’d be more inclined to wear a dress for those and pay the £12 or so to get it steamed.

Ironing basket emptied on a Sundary morning whilst listening to Archer’s omnibus

Whojimawhatsit · 30/09/2018 19:42

As I get loads of washing dry, I separate out the ironing into a pile that I keep downstairs.

I then only iron the pile when something in it is needed (usually school shirts) but I then do the whole pile - then hang it up.

Roughly it works out to ironing the pile once a fortnight.

Scoleah · 30/09/2018 19:43

As and when,
Because my Kids & husband will empty their wardrobes looking for something in particular they can't find and then cram everything back in.
I've learned to save time and do it when needed!

Squirrelblanket · 30/09/2018 19:43

I don't iron anything. We're a hang/fold straight from the dryer household.

If I did iron I would do it as needed.

Whojimawhatsit · 30/09/2018 19:43

Should also say that only things that need it are ironed. I dry everything in such a way as to avoid ironing anything that I can get away with.

Shoobydooby09 · 30/09/2018 19:43

I iron all school uniforms and my work wear at the weekend as i don't have time in a morning or evening during the week. Anything else is as and when.

Mayhemmumma · 30/09/2018 19:44

Sunday night - school uniforms and kids tops (they wear leggings and joggers at weekends which don't need ironing)

I do mine as required and DH only odd shirt at weekends.

Athena51 · 30/09/2018 19:45

I don't even own an iron. And no, I don't look messy or crumpled 😊

greendale17 · 30/09/2018 19:47

On MN no one irons.

Meanwhile in real life- I iron straight after

Blackoutblinds · 30/09/2018 19:47

Don’t iron. Out of tumble and put away. If it’s desperately needing an iron gets done just before I put it on

user1471523870 · 30/09/2018 19:48

When I get the items out of the tumble drier, they either get folded or go to the 'ironing' basked. Then the cleaner irons them once a week. But to be fair it's not much, just shirts, handkerchiefs and tablecloths (yes, we are a bit old fashion here) ...let's say a 30% of the laundry gets ironed?

welshweasel · 30/09/2018 19:49

We iron straight after washing (well, usually wait until there’s two loads to do) - DH does most of it but we are all capable (other than the 2 year old). We iron pretty much everything other than underwear and bedsheets. Even the muslins get ironed as they fold much better.
