Do you iron as and when or straight after wash?

Me and DH have different opinions on this. I iron once the item is out the wash and dry so I have a pile on Sunday. DH will just put everything away once dry and iron things only as and when they are needed. This does mean that sometimes I'll get something out the wardrobe expecting to just get dressed and go but find that it is all creased.
So, who is BU?

Never iron either. Unless we're going to a wedding or something and DPs shirt needs a once over; even then most of his shirts are that stretchy fabric that doesn't need ironing.

noeffingidea · 30/09/2018 20:18

Very rarely iron anything, apart from the odd ocassion like a job interview or wedding.

maddjess · 30/09/2018 20:26

Seriously I don't understand how you all do this? I must have the iron out 5x a week.... my clothes are always creased otherwise???

happymummy12345 · 30/09/2018 20:28

I do it when I have time. I try not to let it pile up too much though.

PickAChew · 30/09/2018 20:33

We wear a lot of natural fibres and I do a couple of ironing sessions a week. With the radio on, of course.

Celebelly · 30/09/2018 20:36

I used to iron when we had a terrible washing machine that crumpled everything like crazy (and hated every bloody second of it). Now we have a good washing machine and tumble drier, stuff never needs ironed.

AfterSchoolWorry · 30/09/2018 20:38

Ummm

Interviews, weddings, christenings and funerals.

Celebelly · 30/09/2018 20:38

Honestly, if your clothes are coming out of the washing machine really creased, look into a better washing machine. Our old one was bloody terrible (and it wasn't a cheap brand!) but I assumed that was just how they all were. When we moved house and bought a new one it was like night and day.

tamzinro · 30/09/2018 20:38

As and when because even if I put clothes away in wardrobe ironed they still tend to get creases

nicebitofquiche · 30/09/2018 20:40

I iron as and when I need something because I absolutely hate bloody ironing I prefer to wear freshly ironed clothes Grin

Oblomov18 · 30/09/2018 20:40
Shock Some people iron. Others don't. Ok. Some people only buy clothes that don't need ironing. Ok.

But your Dh's method, of putting in-ironed stuff away, and then you going to wear it, only to find, obviously that you can't:

Is utter bonkers!! ShockShockShock

I wash, dry, put in piles all stuff that doesn't need ironing: boxers, football tops, etc.
stuff that needs ironing goes in a pile and is at some point, (normally Sunday) ironed. And then kids called to put whole pile away.

ChishandFips33 · 30/09/2018 20:41

As and when - it gets creased in the wardrobe otherwise

Bingolingo · 30/09/2018 20:43

I only iron the school uniforms so I just iron those loads as they are finished drying. Anything else that looks creased when we go to wear it I just run the iron over it before wearing. Most stuff doesn’t need it though

dementedpixie · 30/09/2018 20:46

I only iron dh work shirts and the kids school stuff. I don't iron anything else.

MonoClue · 30/09/2018 21:01

I was going to say as and when. Then I realised I haven’t used my iron once since I bought it when we moved home nearly 7 years ago Blush

yikesanotherbooboo · 30/09/2018 21:05

( no tumble dryer) I dry clothes and iron in batches.

mumtoanangel · 30/09/2018 21:09

Sunday evening's school shirts get ironed.nothing else gets ironed

Biancadelriosback · 30/09/2018 21:24

@celebelly ....what??? I though that that was just what happened when you tumble dried!!! Grabs Curry's catalog

Celebelly · 30/09/2018 21:27

@Biancadelriosback I know! We had a Hotpoint washer dryer and just assumed that you had to spend hours ironing the stuff that came out as it was creased beyond belief and not wearable. Now we have a Bosch washing machine and a separate tumble drier and it's a REVELATION. Stuff comes out ready to put on, including my DP's work clothes.

sulflower · 30/09/2018 21:31

Once a week or when the ironing basket is full. I like ironing!

Noboozeforme · 30/09/2018 21:33

I don't own an iron.

Streambeam · 30/09/2018 21:39

I iron as little as possible, as and when.

This comes from living with mum mum for so long. She irons socks. And pants. And teatowels. 🤨

Life is too short

My late mother used to iron terry nappies when we were visiting!
I iron less and less, my trousers rarely get much of an iron, but as I buy a lot of linen stuff there's no way out of that.

smallchanceofrain · 30/09/2018 21:47

I iron for special occasions - job interviews, weddings etc - about once a decade. I don't have time to iron every week.

I tumble dry everything, take things out while still warm and either fold or put straight on hangers. Most of my clothes and all the DCs school clothes are non-iron. I've even been known to pop a damp tea towel in the dryer for 10 minutes with a load of washing that has dried and gone cold, just to get the creases out.

KimchiLaLa · 30/09/2018 21:47

We iron after dryer is done.
