Do you iron as and when or straight after wash?

Me and DH have different opinions on this. I iron once the item is out the wash and dry so I have a pile on Sunday. DH will just put everything away once dry and iron things only as and when they are needed. This does mean that sometimes I'll get something out the wardrobe expecting to just get dressed and go but find that it is all creased.
So, who is BU?

Nothing that needs ironing will ever get past my front door!

EllieMentry · 30/09/2018 19:50

Don't have a tumble dryer. Still rarely iron anything but if I do, it's only when I need the item. DH and I iron our own stuff as and when.

Biancadelriosback · 30/09/2018 19:50

Hmmmmm perhaps I'm missing a trick! I wear a lot of blouses and shirt dresses they look a mess straight out the tumble so I've started hanging them up straight from the wash but the arms always cling together funny and they never dry straight.

Maybe I just need a different style

I tumble dry as much as I can to avoid having to iron.

I consequently never iron school shirts or uniforms.

Other stuff I used to iron as it got washed, but now I cram so much in my wardrobe it always needs a second go so I've started a new system where I iron as needed instead now. I prefer the old way, but it stopped working and I will probably go back to it when I can get around to sorting my wardrobe out to make more room again.

chipsandpeas · 30/09/2018 19:51

i rarely iron so i dry and hang up

Autumn2018 · 30/09/2018 19:52

It's worth mentioning that tumble drying has to be carefully balanced. If you dry too much it actually crinkles clothes. So, I have to set my dryer to a medium setting and remove stuff to hang up early on, before it gets too dry. Then no ironing needed. I hate days when I accidentally press start again without remembering what's in the load, only to find I have over dried it.

Drycleanonly7 · 30/09/2018 19:52

No need to iron in this day and age unless it is a shirt for an interview.

SaucyJack · 30/09/2018 19:53

Don’t iron. Don’t even put stuff away half the time. We just wear it straight from the airer.

My standards are low.

GrumpyOldMare · 30/09/2018 19:53

Washing off the line, onto the ironing board and then put away. I won't leave it folded as the cats would use it as a bed.
Besides which,I can't settle to relax if know jobs still need doing.

mildshock · 30/09/2018 19:53

We iron nothing except DPs work uniform and my tunics when I'm on placement.

DP will iron a shirt if we're going to an event, but that's it.

Nothing else needs ironing.

cardibach · 30/09/2018 19:55

Never. Unless you count one item perhaps each year as as-and-when. Purchase carefully, wash carefully, dry carefully. These things take no longer than the alternative.

ferrier · 30/09/2018 19:56

Just about everything needs ironing here. Must be something to do with the water. Shirts and work clothes get ironed straight out of the drier. The rest may hang around a bit.

DumptonPark · 30/09/2018 19:56

As and when. The ironing board is always up in the spare room and everything is put away un-ironed so it doesn't matter if it gets screwed up when you're hunting for something. We iron our own clothes each morning.

Toomuchworking · 30/09/2018 20:04

My DH went to a wedding this morning and left the iron out. I folded the board down and unplugged the iron... then realised I actually don't know where they live. I'm such a scruff Blush

Parisbun · 30/09/2018 20:05

I iron as the clothes are dry. One small pile usually unless I have to rush out and another wash is on the go.
I occasionally have to re-iron but not enough to change my routine.I never have enough time in the mornings to start faffing about with ironing things as well as everything else.

theSnuffster · 30/09/2018 20:07

I wash, dry, then put in the ironing basket. Then I'll stand a do a pile of ironing at the weekend. We don't have a tumble drier so some things need ironing- uniforms etc. I hate ironing, but rather do a whole pile at ice than have to get the ironing board out every morning!

ilovesooty · 30/09/2018 20:08

Haven't ironed anything for years.

Biancadelriosback · 30/09/2018 20:10

I quite enjoy ironing tbf. On a Sunday in front of the telly while DS naps and DH cooks Sunday dinner. It's a few moments peace to catch up on crap TV

OopsPardonMrsArden · 30/09/2018 20:10

Nope, DH hangs things carefully and no need to iron apart from one or two linen items

KlutzyDraconequus · 30/09/2018 20:11

I never iron.. dont even own one.. no ones died.

Allineedyoutodois · 30/09/2018 20:12

Rarely iron. If we Donita because something has come out of the wardrobe and is a right old mess. So I guess it’s ‘dry’ then ironed??? But that would twice a year I reckon... wash and wear, tumble dry, hung to dry wet in our house. No men’s shirts to worry about

Racecardriver · 30/09/2018 20:14

I let it sit in am ironing box for a week at a time then do it all in one go.

Tiredtomybones · 30/09/2018 20:14

I iron practically everything. As soon as it's dry it goes in the ironing basket with its hanger folded inside it. I then iron and hang it and put it on a rail to air and then put away the following day. I have a laundry room so the airer, rail, ironing board etc are always assembled and in use at various stages. I iron most days for about 20 minutes to keep on top of it.

Stormwhale · 30/09/2018 20:16

I only iron Dds school uniform. That is done after it is washed and dried at the weekend so it's all ready for the week. I hate ironing.

Aragog · 30/09/2018 20:17

DH does the ironing in this house. We both put loads of washing on.

Washing normally happens towards the end of the week. Ironing normally happens on a Sunday afternoon.

I'd never put un-ironed clothes in the wardrobe, to iron when I was going to wear them though.
