Do you iron as and when or straight after wash?

Me and DH have different opinions on this. I iron once the item is out the wash and dry so I have a pile on Sunday. DH will just put everything away once dry and iron things only as and when they are needed. This does mean that sometimes I'll get something out the wardrobe expecting to just get dressed and go but find that it is all creased.
So, who is BU?

I iron about 2 or 3 garments a week. So it all gets put away and then the odd thing taken out to iron if needed.

As and when - cannot bear the thought of spending whole
afternoon ironing. Put it all away once washed and dried,
My sister wont go anywhere on a Sunday cos its her ironing day!
(couldnt be that passionate about it, im afraid).

My DH does our ironing- most stuff apart from underwear/socks/pjs/bedding gets ironed.
I sort it as I take it off the washing line and put it in the ironing basket, then he irons it on Saturday or Sunday evening while watching Strictly Glitterball

I love hanging out washing and dread the weather getting too cold for it to be worthwhile. On sunny days I have been known to get family members to undress and change if I have run out of stuff to wash (I do realise I'm very sad)

Washed, line dried if possible and ironed straight away. Just the two of us.

Up until a few years ago, when DCs lived at home, we just did as and when and the ironing pile was about six feet high Blush.

@celebelly this has made me genuinely a little excited.

Please can I now ask you all what tumble dryers you have? Honestly if this works my world has changed

Also interested in what washing machine you now have @Celebelly

Thinking of my items that can't go in to the tumble dryer for a nice iron so I don't have to bother!

I only iron some of my summer clothes as they are linen mixes so get creased badly. I tend to iron them all in one batch. So I basically iron clothes 3-6 times a year in one go for 2-3 months. This year due to being pregnant I ironed no summer clothes.

Terribletwos84 · 01/10/2018 08:08

I iron once a week while ds is napping. Takes me half hour now so put the tv on. Mostly dps shirts and trousers for work etc. Only started because ds only owned trousers that needed ironing all the time and it's turned into my Monday chill time. Suspect when he starts school it will turn into a Sunday panic 😀

Our washing machine is a Bosch and our tumble drier is just a Beko, nothing fancy. Tbh I think the washing machine is probably more important than the drier (based on no scientific evidence whatsoever) - stuff comes out not creased, whereas my last washing machine it came out wet and crumpled like mad. If it comes out crumpled from the wash, then the drier is unlikely to rectify it.

I think the key things are: don't overload the tumble drier or washing machine. Get one with a big drum and make sure there's plenty of space in there for the clothes to move around and shake out creases. Then get them out and hang up/fold asap and don't leave to sit.

Celebelly · 01/10/2018 11:39

Machine is a BOSCH Serie 4 WAN282X0GB 8 kg 1400 and drier is a Beko DCX83100W Condenser.

Perhaps we just don't wear crinkly fabrics!

I don’t iron, last time DS1 spotted the ironing board, he was so unfamiliar with it he thought I’d bought him a surfboard.Grin. I don’t think it’s a MN thing, my mum never irons either.

adoggymama · 01/10/2018 11:54

I iron as and when, I hate ironing!Grin

DontCallMeCharlotte · 01/10/2018 12:08

I do a massive iron about once every six months and occasionally in between as and when. Most stuff doesn't need ironing though.

However, your DH is putting stuff away which does need ironing before it's ironed?

I've even been known to pop a damp tea towel in the dryer for 10 minutes with a load of washing that has dried and gone cold, just to get the creases out.

Tip of the day!

The only ironing that 'needs' doing is school shirts and Dh's work shirts. He generally does it all on a Saturday morning (that's chores time - kids do homework / clubs, we do house stuff).
