To encourage Ocado shoppers to read this

If you are an Ocado customer, you should be aware that they consider defining ‘woman’ as an adult human female to be hate speech and not ‘in line with their values’.

They threatened to pull advertising from Primesite unless Primesite took down a billboard with the OED definition of woman on it.

They have received hundreds of complaints from women since, but have refused to apologise.

Just in case you might want to consider not giving your money to a company who consider the word woman to not be in line with their values.

And if you do decide to boycott, tell them why.

The thing is Ocado have brought this on themselves. I don't want to know what the CEO of Ocado thinks about trans people. I just want my veg delivered. Its like famous people and authors who suddenly think they are qualified to tell us which way to vote and think they are important enough to swing government policy like the sugar tax. I am not interested. That's why I cancelled Ocado. I am not prepare to entertain bollocks with my biscuits.

There is no lowly customer service person who had access to Twitter. He is imaginary (notice how they blamed it on a man to appease us). There is no way someone that level would be commenting on Twitter. Its more bullshit.

Estellesylvia · 01/10/2018 12:37

Those comparing Posie to a terrorist might be interested to know that last night she was doxxed on Twitter with personal photos and the address of her home where she lives with her children published, putting them all at risk. The police are involved.

All this because she dared to go on national TV and say that men cannot be women.

THAT is terrorism. These are the people who Ocado, and the handmaidens on this thread, are siding with.

Yes that is criminal. I hope the gaggle who were behind this get the book thrown at them. Prison time isn't it?

GladAllOver · 01/10/2018 13:59

There is an excellent editorial about this absurdity in the Times today.

BrisaOtonal · 01/10/2018 14:08

Any chance we can get a copy of that article without subscribing to The Times?

GladAllOver · 01/10/2018 14:18

It's copyright I'm afraid. I'd rather not post it here.

Bowlofbabelfish · 01/10/2018 14:19

There’s a share token link on the other thread

DontFundHate · 01/10/2018 14:25

Bloody hell Mumsnet, I've seen it said lots of times on here that there are many transphobic people here but I somehow have never come across it myself. Until today. Thanks for curing my years long Mumsnet addiction

GladAllOver · 01/10/2018 14:27

Just a sample..
"Perhaps the greatest trick they've pulled so far is to convince parts of the poulation that transgender people are too fragile to walk past a poster bearing the term 'woman'. "

"Yet organisations like Girlguiding trop out their platitudes and expel the volunteers left to square the circle of absurd, contradictory policies that they've outsourced to interest groups...."

GladAllOver · 01/10/2018 14:29

Goodbye Don't fund.

Missing you already!

Bowlofbabelfish · 01/10/2018 14:29

dontfund

Which of these is hateful?

  1. The dictionary definition of woman
  2. Someone putting pictures, video and address details of someone’s children on twitter to threaten them.

If you think 1 is the hateful action, we have a problem

WanderinWomb · 01/10/2018 16:50

I'm baffled that that you think women supporting women to bring light to the definition of Woman is transphobic.
Completely baffled and horrified.

Ocado have lost at minimum several hundreds of thousands of £sales due to this,( I stopped totting up on Sunday) And rightly so. The vast majority of account holders are women and the majority of those have children, their customers know very well what a woman is. We live in female bodies, ain't nothing ISIS like or terrorist about that.

Account cancelled. The accounts of most people I know cancelled. Bye bye Ocado, my existence is not bigoted.

AsAProfessionalFekko · 01/10/2018 18:10

Oh bless. There's a 5star rating from a shiny new trust pilot reviewer for ocado.

Oopsy, darn, I reported it as a fishy review.

VforVienetta · 01/10/2018 22:00

@DontFundHate Please could you tell me which parts of this thread you see as transphobic, and quote them? Just a direct copy and paste please, rather than paraphrasing, because i’d like to identify exactly what is understood as transphobic.
Thank you.
(Please @ me so i see it, thanks!)

GladAllOver · 01/10/2018 22:16

DontFund has gone, apparently.

Didn't want to answer any difficult questions.

VforVienetta · 01/10/2018 22:20

They never do, do they... Just say how sad they are that we’re all transphobes, then flounce. Le sigh.

Charliethefeminist · 01/10/2018 22:21

Whoosh this thread! Good job.

camelstraw · 02/10/2018 06:47

Disinclination to be pilloried for what are entirely normal non-transphobic views is why MN is an echo chamber

Meanwhile, on other threads, Ocado is still recommended as a most liked delivery service. I did wonder if the existence of thread after thread would inhibit people for posting how much they like the shop (and don't actually care about the poster- which by no stretch was just thr neutral statement it is purported by some to be - it was an anti-trans provocation).

And it's fine to decide that you don't want to respond to provocation. Even when it is dished out regularly by mNetters who simply refuse to believe that anyone could ever disagree with them.

PerverseConverse · 02/10/2018 06:58

camelstraw can you explain how it was "anti-trans provocation" please?

Estellesylvia · 02/10/2018 07:16

I wouldn’t hold your breath, Perverse. They generally just like to post about how horrible and transphobic we are, they never come back to explain why.

FekkoTheLawyer · 02/10/2018 07:50

Ow bless. Natacha does their shopping there and loves it. I've counted maybe 3 x5-star ratings rusted up over the past few days.

Interesting.

Bowlofbabelfish · 02/10/2018 07:56

camel

Are we a pointless echo chamber or the most dangerous bunch of witches ever ever? We can’t be both.

What exactly is anti trans about the definition of woman? Think about it - think about what it means to be affected by that statement and what reacting with threats to people’s children says about those who are offended

Because to me, it doesn’t look like they’re offended- it looks like they’re aggressively targeting those who don’t validate them.

Ikeasucks · 02/10/2018 08:46

I don’t use Ocado but have thought about it. I’m just indulted that a company would just so dismissively and happily insult their customer base - women. It does remind me of the whole dneering arrogant Ratner fiasco. So - I’ll use snother company instead - take not Ssinsburys and others.

FekkoTheLawyer · 02/10/2018 08:54

It was covered in the Standard. I can't link but it's online. Oh dear ocado. It's not just going to blow over is it?be

Ikeasucks · 02/10/2018 08:59

I think it will blow over - most folk aren't aware or bothered enough about identity politics - they will have lost some customers but I can’t imagine a huge amount.
