Obviously don’t know the full facts, but the photos
Show the police being pretty heavy handed.

They look Muslim, so presume don’t drink alcohol, they have regularly buy the water from other branches of Tesco.
This behaviour by the police looks like the sort of treatment meted out by racist officers towards African Americans in the US.

I am disgusted by the thuggish behaviour of the police and I hope Mr. Hussain succeeds in his complaint to the PCC.

@CurlyWurlyTwirly

"This behaviour by the police looks like the sort of treatment meted out by racist officers towards African Americans in the US."

Yeah cuz there are no racist police officers anywhere besides the US. 🙄

SoupDragon · 27/09/2018 17:08

Just jump to conclusions and assume the police were justified which IMO they weren't.

I’ve not jumped to any conclusions. What they were planning to do with the water is irrelevant. The man caused the situation and escalated it Ll by himself.

Atlantea · 27/09/2018 17:09

The bloke is a bit mouthy and cocky - however what justifies the policeman suddenly taking a swing at his head (clearly there in the video clip). I found that shocking from a police officer

we dont know as they cut the video so we cannot see what happened before

SoupDragon · 27/09/2018 17:09

The unedited footage would be interesting.

SoupDragon · 27/09/2018 17:13

I dont think the police officer actually does take a swing at his head. It’s difficukt to see from the angle of the footage. It looks more like some kind of grab gone astray. It’s not a punch or smack from the look of his hand.

VanGoghsDog · 27/09/2018 17:14

""She’s a secondary school teacher and the bottled water is kind of her trademark, she’s very popular at the school.’"

Well, she sounds fun.

Havaina · 27/09/2018 17:20

They were asked not to buy more than 10 bottles, they didn't like that and he claims his missus drinks 2l a day.

I drink 2L a day. Didn't realise this was unusual. Confused

We need the facts, but police can be wankers.

WomanAKAAdultHumanFemale · 27/09/2018 17:22

We need the facts, but police can be wankers.

Yes. Sticking to the facts and not making value judgments would be helpful. You should try it.

Amanduh · 27/09/2018 17:22

Yeah, and the general public can be wankers too. Like they were here.

Havaina · 27/09/2018 17:23

The security officer was correct to ask them to not record, it is private property, and members of the public faces could be seen, pretty sure that’s against some data protection laws.

It's not illegal to film in a public place.

TonnoEMaionese · 27/09/2018 17:24

Why was she yelling at the policeman to stop hitting her - when he was just holding her arms - she did it a couple of times - it's weird behaviour.

As to the rest the video was a bit choppy so we don't know what went on between them talking, and the guy getting handcuffed.

Why on earth they decided to stage some weird standin over buying bottles of water is beyond me though.

Havaina · 27/09/2018 17:24

WomanAKA

Learn to comprehend. I said police CAN be wankers, not the police WERE wankers.

But now I've seen the police try and punch that man on the head, I think that copper was a wanker. Happy?

WomanAKAAdultHumanFemale · 27/09/2018 17:24

Payout and apology?

TonnoEMaionese · 27/09/2018 17:24

It's not illegal to film in a public place.

They were in Tescos - it's not a public place, they can specifically refuse entry to anyone, so it's definitely a private space with no expectation of access.

WomanAKAAdultHumanFemale · 27/09/2018 17:25

Ooops. That was in response Tonno.

Havaina · 27/09/2018 17:25

A lot of coppers' wives on MN today Grin

bruffin · 27/09/2018 17:25

It's not illegal to film in a public place.

It is not a public place, its private property and is perfectly legal to forbid photography and filming

Fenellapitstop · 27/09/2018 17:26

Ok, having watched the footage, the officer has started to escort the man out, he starts to resist, the officer goes to take him to the wall to restrain him, pushes back and turns with a clenched fist. So the punch thrown seems justified to me

Jaxhog · 27/09/2018 17:27

The article says he is on-line retailer! He also appeared to be familiar with several other Tesco stores. If true, then buying shed loads of bottled water does suggest that he's selling it on. In any case, Tesco is perfectly within it's rights to limit the number of anything it sells.

The clip looks very much like the couple are playing to the video. The lady is shouting 'stop hitting me' when it's pretty clear that the officer is just trying to restrain her. i.e. no sign of a blow of any kind. I bet they now try for compensation from Tesco or the Police.

SoupDragon · 27/09/2018 17:28

now I've seen the police try and punch that man on the head

Except he didn’t.

SnuggyBuggy · 27/09/2018 17:28

They have probably pulled this stunt before

Aragog · 27/09/2018 17:30

I dont think the police officer actually does take a swing at his head.

I agree. It was a restraint hold initially, based on the blurred bit just before, but the man 'escaped' the hold. The policeman lifted his hand to re-grab him to restrain him further. It doesn't look at all like the police was trying to punch or slap him round the head IMO.

The woman was also just being restrained from behind. She has holding onto the bar in front of her and the police was trying to get her to release her hands.

They should have walked away. Not caused a huge fuss, and continued to film after being asked not to, on private property.

Equally - they shouldn't have then released edited footage of the encounter, trying to edit out the aspects where they were causing more issues, leaving only bits for the police's actions - to try and highlight key movements and have people see them in the wrong way.

SoupDragon · 27/09/2018 17:31

The swing and how the policeofficer’s hand is makes me think it wasn’t a punch.

And no, I’m not a police wife.

hungryhippo90 · 27/09/2018 17:34

Oh yes. So racist. Of course they were arrested because of their religion.

Note the other Muslims not being arrested and manhandled in the pictures.

hungryhippo90 · 27/09/2018 17:36

It wasn’t really worth the aggro though was it, I can’t imagine she will have a job after this.
