Obviously don’t know the full facts, but the photos
Show the police being pretty heavy handed.

They look Muslim, so presume don’t drink alcohol, they have regularly buy the water from other branches of Tesco.
This behaviour by the police looks like the sort of treatment meted out by racist officers towards African Americans in the US.

I am disgusted by the thuggish behaviour of the police and I hope Mr. Hussain succeeds in his complaint to the PCC.

there were loads of bottles in the trolley - and he is an online retailer - but said in the article his wife drinks 2 bottles a day

the policeman asked him to leave and he was refusing to

it would be interesting to see the whole thing without the cuts

WomanAKAAdultHumanFemale · 27/09/2018 16:13

wife drinks 2 bottles a day

Two litres a day.

HeadsDownThumbsUpEveryone · 27/09/2018 16:15

Just seen that you had not even watched the video before starting this thread!

I simply love that you made this entire thread on the basis of a few photos and based on this you have decided its all the fault of the police and they are victims because they look Muslim. It really looks like you have formed an opinion and are cherry picking the parts that fit your idea.

hannnnnnnxo · 27/09/2018 16:15

Retailers can refuse service if they want to - if they didn’t want to sell most of their stock of water in one transaction they they have that prerogative - they don’t need a suitable enough reason. From there, if the customers kicked off and got irate, they are within their rights to call the police to diffuse the situation. From the charges and the images, it suggests that they weren’t cooperating with the police either.

WorraLiberty · 27/09/2018 16:15

Blimey, I don't think I've ever seen such a ridiculous thread title, not to mention the biased opening post.

You should write for the Daily Mail, OP! Grin

I'm sure the whole thing will be on bodycam and CCTV.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 27/09/2018 16:15

You could see the policeman trying to grab Mr Hs jumper, it does look like a wild swing. But you have to winder why the policeman was off balance and felt the need to swing/grab in the first place!

And grabbing his wife is also just common sense she was screaming and trying to get tot he policeman retraining her husband. The second officer had to do something, and that round the waist and wrist hold is textbook, especially for a male officer restraining a female!

I am NOT saying that police NEVER overreact!

AutumnLeaves1976 · 27/09/2018 16:17

DangerousBeanz

I thought that also I'm sure the huge Tesco in Mumps is open24/7

LilMy33 · 27/09/2018 16:18

Putting your hand out at chest level to someone else is a tactic to make that person stay at that distance away from you. The police tried to speak to the woman (totally normal), her husband didn’t seem to want them to and shut that down. They tried to escort him outside, he wouldn’t let them (stupid way to behave) and looks like he lashed out first before the officer did.

And the security guard is correct. You can only film on private property (which a Tesco store would be) at the company’s/managers discretion.

MadMum101 · 27/09/2018 16:19

There were two of them so Tesco could just have said to put it through as two purchases and said just this once..... . What happened to the customer is always right?

Does anyone in here know what he sells to presume he wanted to sell it?

Just jump to conclusions and assume the police were justified which IMO they weren't. They're supposed to uphold the peace and should have been able to diffuse something so very petty as this.

The woman looked so distressed. It was horrendous to watch.

hannnnnnnxo · 27/09/2018 16:19

It’s not the attempt to buy excessivewater that caused them to be arrested, it’s their behaviour afterwards which lead to the altercation with the police.

AnneLovesGilbert · 27/09/2018 16:20

"She’s a secondary school teacher and the bottled water is kind of her trademark, she’s very popular at the school."

Choosing to miss the point, but she's killing the environment and being popular has fuck all to do with anything.

hannnnnnnxo · 27/09/2018 16:20

What happened to the customer is always right?

Grinbore off darling. Retailers can refuse to carry out a transaction if they want to. There are many examples of why the customer is not always right, I can’t be bothered to educate you but do think in regards to rudeness/theft/fraud.

Kelsoooo · 27/09/2018 16:21

I’ve watched and rewatched that.

I think the copper originally was calm, placatory and trying to establish facts (probably hungry too) and Mr Hussain was the opposite, he was arrogant and inflammatory.

The security officer was correct to ask them to not record, it is private property, and members of the public faces could be seen, pretty sure that’s against some data protection laws. I can’t take photos of things with peoples faces remotely close to it, in Tesco Et al. So not sure why it would be different for those.

However, it does look rather like the copper swung first.

With regards to the woman, I don’t think the copper was remotely brutal. The floor is sloppy, she was being deliberately flailing so was hard to restrain,

Overall. All that screaming and wailing was pathetic and I hope she no longer teaches. What an appalling attitude.

Oblomov18 · 27/09/2018 16:22

Is this common? For supermarkets to refuse to sell a small/medium amount of something?
10 bottles of wine?

10 bottles of water isn't that much. Anyone could drink that much in a few days/week.

What if you are having a party?

Do you get refused 12 burger buns for your 6 year olds bbq, these days? Hmm

easyandy101 · 27/09/2018 16:22

"I regularly buy more than 10 bottles of water from Tesco. This is strange"

Do you look like you might own a convenience store?

The difference between me (white) buying bulk and the partner (brown) buying bulk in a supermarket is obvious. I've never been challenged, the bird has been stopped from bulk buying frequently

We did actually own a convenience store though Grin

WomanAKAAdultHumanFemale · 27/09/2018 16:22

What happened to the customer is always right?

It was responsible for the death of the dinosaurs.

Do keep up in the back.

Kelsoooo · 27/09/2018 16:23

Also @alphabravo....erm it was Sugar Free watermelon. As denoted by the blue lid and the bottle saying sugar free.

PlatypusPie · 27/09/2018 16:23

Nice try at stirring, OP

HeadsDownThumbsUpEveryone · 27/09/2018 16:24

Does anyone in here know what he sells to presume he wanted to sell it?

I think its incredibly telling that he says no other Tesco store has refused them buying the water and that he is not a merchant selling it. That coupled with the fact they have an online store would suggest it was being brought to sell for profit.

Not that there is anything wrong with that but its hardly life threatening that they were not allowed to buy the water. Why not just accept they said no and move on.

dilemma3 · 27/09/2018 16:25

@WorraLiberty it IS in the daily mail Grin

But haven't a clue how to attach

Oldbutstillgotit · 27/09/2018 16:25

There was a case near us where a man was buying dozens of loaves of bread in a local supermarket then selling them for a higher price in his corner shop !

Inevereverwanttogohome · 27/09/2018 16:25

My nearest Tesco superstore has a community police room, so they are often on site.

SaucyJack · 27/09/2018 16:26

“There were two of them so Tesco could just have said to put it through as two purchases and said just this once.....”

Yeah, but why should they? It’s not as though they were buying it as part of a big, expensive shop. They just wanted to clear the shelf of one half-price item. Tesco have other customers to consider. They’re not Costco.

No one needs that much water. Buy a bottle of Robinson’s next time, you prat.

Kelsoooo · 27/09/2018 16:28

And I just tried adding 30 to my basket on Tesco.com ..... it refused saying max amount was 20.

Oblomov18 · 27/09/2018 16:29
