Obviously don’t know the full facts, but the photos
Show the police being pretty heavy handed.

They look Muslim, so presume don’t drink alcohol, they have regularly buy the water from other branches of Tesco.
This behaviour by the police looks like the sort of treatment meted out by racist officers towards African Americans in the US.

I am disgusted by the thuggish behaviour of the police and I hope Mr. Hussain succeeds in his complaint to the PCC.

TBH, he comes across as a twat.

WomanAKAAdultHumanFemale · 27/09/2018 15:51

Hmm. Something very fishy about the whole setup.

diddl · 27/09/2018 15:53

So why didn't they just buy the amount of water they were allowed to?

WorriesGalore · 27/09/2018 15:54

I sincerely hope "Mr.Husain" is charged for assault. Prats.

5Yearplan4000 · 27/09/2018 15:56

Yes people seem to grab phone cameras at every opportunity these days to be the stars of their own manufactured drama and then play the victim. This is a perfect example. Probably thinks he’s in for some compensation.

RomanyRoots · 27/09/2018 15:57

If one of them assaulted a Police officer they will be arrested/prosecuted.
Isn't that the law, whatever your colour, creed, etc.

HeadsDownThumbsUpEveryone · 27/09/2018 15:58

So why didn't they just buy the amount of water they were allowed to?

The cynic in me says its because then they wouldn't get to be in the paper and get there 5 minutes of fame.

Worieddd · 27/09/2018 15:58

Well that escalated quickly!

Video has been edited conveniently hasn’t it? If a police office tells you to leave then you leave. Don’t get cocky and show aggro. The female is still kicking off when the police office is trying to restrain her. Well deserved I say.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 27/09/2018 15:58

They run an online shop.

The Tesco manager made a decision that is his to make, if he wants.

The police were there buying their lunch

The man called them over.

He then got annoyed that they agreed that the manager had the right to say no.

He was asked to leave, warned he would be arrested, as the manager had said he was no longer welcome... he resisted, there was a scuffle, he was put to the floor, as is normal procedure.

The policeman has visible marks on his face.

All of that is plain to see, read and hear in the jumpy video!

trulybadlydeeply · 27/09/2018 15:59

It all seems very set up. Why start recording a conversation about not being able to buy a trolley full of water?? It's like they knew it would escalate. Fair enough to be disgruntled, perhaps make a formal complaint if they are usually allowed to buy that number, but surely you would just ask how many you were allowed to buy and the go back another time? I suspect the issue is that they are sale atm according to a pp, there are usually restrictions on quantity when that is the case.

Aside from all of that, it's a criminal overuse of plastic. Why would anyone use and throw away that quantity?? Surely a reusable bottle, a bit of syrup or something if you like flavoured water.

user139328237 · 27/09/2018 15:59

20 big bottles of water is more than enough for anyone. Especially given the fact it was on offer and they were buying nothing else Tesco were entirely right to refuse the sale in order to allow other customers to benefit from the offer. Beyond that incomplete video clips do not tell the full picture which I'm sure will come out in court if the case gets that far.

MadMum101 · 27/09/2018 15:59

From what I saw the video on the policeman got very close to the water buyer and was putting his hands on his chest. Not surprised it escalated and I am surprised to say that.

They had been filming the incident. I doubt they would have done that if they were intending to assault someone.

The way the other officer was grappling with the female was also pretty ott.

I found it shocking and am of the opinion the policeman inflamed the situation. Isn't it supposed to be the opposite?

diddl · 27/09/2018 16:00

"The cynic in me says its because then they wouldn't get to be in the paper and get there 5 minutes of fame"

Well yes.

I once accidentally picked up too much paracetamol.

Cashier said "sorry, I can't sell you all of that".

I said "I'll take what you can sell me then".

Can't fathom why soeone would be arguing about it tbh.

Jakethekid · 27/09/2018 16:02

The man involved comes across as extremely cocky thinking he's better than the security and the police officer. If you are told you can't buy something why then talk over them and be rude?

Also the bit where they are trying to handcuff the woman and she is screaming about the officer punching her? She isn't being punched at all. Completely ridiculous

HoleyCoMoley · 27/09/2018 16:02

Were they buying them in the sale to sell on their online shop at inflated prices

SoupDragon · 27/09/2018 16:02

They had been filming the incident.

They were asked multiple times to stop filming and refused. They were troublemakers imo.

Jakethekid · 27/09/2018 16:03

In the article it also stated that the police officer had abrasions to the face caused by the one of them. If you were a normal person you would calm down and just allow it. Not fight back

hackmum · 27/09/2018 16:04

Tesco are well-known to be heavy-handed, aren't they? Stories about e.g. accusing innocent people of shoplifting crop up with surprising regularity.

Police brutality is nothing new, unfortunately. Neither is people making excuses for it ("he clearly threw his face at the officer's boot").

SoupDragon · 27/09/2018 16:04

From what I saw the video on the policeman got very close to the water buyer and was putting his hands on his chest.

I saw it differently. The police officer was trying to talk to the wife to g t her to stop filming and the man kept butting in. The hand was a “step back” measure.

MissusGeneHunt · 27/09/2018 16:04

Rather think the judgement lies in a court, OP.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 27/09/2018 16:05

Okay just watched the video.
Yes I agree Mr Hussain comes across as cocky; however there is no denying the policeman swung a fist at Hussain’s head.
Anyway, I thought the police had body cams on their vests.
Trying to grab his wife looked pretty brutal

I concur that they were probably buying it to sell on.
There are 2 Tesco mega stores in Oldham, nearer to where they live. Why do out of their way to Rochdale to buy the water? And just water. It's not like they were in there doing their shopping and decided to stock up while they were there on offer. It looks like a special water buying trip.
And why the bad attitude when they were told no?
You'd just say ok and buy the 10 and then go back another day. Or go into one of the 2 nearer stores. Unless they'd already had several trolleys full from those already.

AlphaBravo · 27/09/2018 16:08

Manchester Police are very "hands on" in general. The difference in the way their teams respond to situations (from what I've seen on The Force) is a world away from other forces.

AlphaBravo · 27/09/2018 16:09

Not that I agree with Mr 5 minutes of fame either.

If his wife drank a bottle of that every day she would have diabetes and the shits at the same time. That flavoured Volvic is pure sugar water. Grim stuff.
