To think that if Girl Guides is for girls, it should allow all girls to be members?

Girl guides have confirmed that if a girl identifies as a boy, they'll kick them out.

So they are no longer a single sex organisation, they are a single gender one.

The Muslim girl will say I need these single sex accommodations.

NO.

Why aren't you listening?

THE MUSLIM GIRL IS NO LONGER ALLOWED TO JOIN IN THE FIRST PLACE.

By her parents, by her own religious observance. Whichever.

GIRL GUIDING IS NO LONGER SINGLE SEX.

SOME NATAL GIRLS ARE NOW EXCLUDED.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 27/09/2018 12:26

@Swissgemma - the Muslim girl will not get as far as discussing sleeping accomodations because her religion prevent her from joining a mixed sex organisation!

Strict Muslim parents will look at the Girl Guides policy on trans girls and trans women in Guiding, and will conclude that their daughter might end up in a company with either a leader or another member who is trans, and who may well have a functioning penis - and they will forbid their daughter from joining.

And if Jo, the trans girl, wants to share a tent with Sarah, but Sarah doesn't want to share with Jo, Sarah may well feel unable to say so, for fear of being labelled a transphobic bigot. Jo's wishes could well override Sarah's - but because Sarah is a natal girl, it is just fiiiiine to throw her under the bus.

The thing about workable solutions, is that there has to be a willingness on both sides to have open discussion. To debate the issues. To put forward both sides of the argument.

poshme · 27/09/2018 12:30

Guiding had people asking questions about this policy. They had leaders who wanted to discuss safeguarding- the safety & happiness of the girls who will be affected by this.
The Muslim girls.
The looked after kids who must not be near a male bodied person.
The girls who are victims of sexual abuse.
The girls.

Guiding chucked out those leaders for wanting to have the discussion. For wanting to find a workable solution.

ScribblyGum · 27/09/2018 12:32

Rufus, sorry, re Guiders choosing to ignore the policy I phrased that badly.

Here is what is says on the GGUK website re Equality and Diversity Policy: Transgender and Gender Reassignment

“We understand that if a young member is transitioning from female to male that they will be experiencing a great amount of change and uncertainty. Flexibility and the Leaders’ discretion in conversation with the parents must be used to determine how long the child stays within the unit.”

What I take from that are the flexibility and leaders' discretion parts of that statement. I reality what I would very much hope the conversation with the child (don’t understand why the child's opinions are mentioned tbh) and the parents would be
“Do you want to stay in this unit?”
If the answer is yes then that that would be that. They would stay in the unit for as long as they wanted to within the age range of that group. I simply cannot imagine the decision being taken by that unit's Guiders that a young person who has been involved in guiding and has made their promise being told that they have to leave. I also do not read in that statement an imperative on the Guiders' part to manage that person out.

BeyondAdultHumanFemale · 27/09/2018 12:33

Sorry, I'm still stuck on "eat like a female"!

Will a transwoman that eats 2000kcal a day maintain their current weight? Is that how one eats as female?

Elephantinacravat · 27/09/2018 12:34

Trans boys are boys. Trans girls are girls. People that have decided to live their life as the gender they were not born into become that new gender. There is no need for further definition. Boys are boys. Girls are girls. Trans boys are boys. Trans girls are girls.

Christ on a crumpet could you sound any more fucking brainwashed?

Repeat after us...

WomanAKAAdultHumanFemale · 27/09/2018 12:35

And if Jo, the trans girl, wants to share a tent with Sarah, but Sarah doesn't want to share with Jo, Sarah may well feel unable to say so, for fear of being labelled a transphobic bigot. Jo's wishes could well override Sarah's - but because Sarah is a natal girl, it is just fiiiiine to throw her under the bus.

Yes. The safety of women and children come after the feelings of men and boys.

Swissgemma · 27/09/2018 12:36

Eat as a female, Live as a female as in identify as a female all day every day not just in the occasional Tuesday like Phillip bunce. I have already addressed this. But feel free to send us back to the start.

ScribblyGum · 27/09/2018 12:36

Susan thank you Smile, that would be my hope too, that if enough noise, particularly with reference to safeguarding concerns is created from the ground roots Guiders that GGUK might rethink their policy.
We shall have to wait and see.

Swissgemma · 27/09/2018 12:36

Guiders on here have already stated a willingness on a practical level to find workable solutions.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 27/09/2018 12:36

Oh thats fine, sorry scribbly

I have read the policy document and hopefully what you've just described is exactly what will happen

Thats one of the things that really worries me about this amended policy, and unfortunately i dont think every leader is going to be as good about it as you seem to be

Another worry is also the religious bit, can i ask what your thoughts are on that?

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 27/09/2018 12:39

I still don't understand the eat like a female bit

I am fairly positive that i DO NOT eat like a female

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 27/09/2018 12:40

beyond

Didnt see your post

I eat really fast, usually first finished

Is that it?

Elephantinacravat · 27/09/2018 12:43

Eat like a female?!

My DH will tell you that I am not very 'feminine' when I eat!

FissionChips · 27/09/2018 12:43

Eat as a female, Live as a female as in identify as a female all day every day

Again, how do I eat as a female? Is it about taking dainty little bites? Eating salad as a main course?

I genuinely want to know how I eat and sleep (tampons at night while on period?) as a female.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 27/09/2018 12:44

@Swissgemma - what workable solution would YOU suggest to Muslim girls not being allowed to join Guides in the first place, because it is no longer a single sex organisation?

Swissgemma · 27/09/2018 12:44

I also pointed out such things are not gendered. The thing that genders them is individual identity. I identify as female. I live as female. It was a point to illustrate that we are discussing people who are female 24/7 and not Phillip bunce.

Elephantinacravat · 27/09/2018 12:45

I live as female.

When you say you 'live as female' what do you mean?

FinnegansWhiskers · 27/09/2018 12:45

Transwomen know what sex they are. They are happy with their sex. If they really wanted to be female they would get rid of the cock. The vast majority want to keep the cock. Let's not put them through any discomfort eh? Why dont we just make their fantasy a problem for women instead? ... Oh wait!...

Elephantinacravat · 27/09/2018 12:46

How do you 'live as female' when you are not female?

Swissgemma · 27/09/2018 12:46

I have already said I have not enough knowledge of exact Muslim requirements and have suggested repeatedly an open discussion.

Swissgemma · 27/09/2018 12:47

We are talking about children who cannot be reassigned so will always still have a penis.

I have also repeatly explained that gender is how you identify.

Swissgemma · 27/09/2018 12:49

I identify as female. Use female pronouns. Introduce myself as female.

A trans girl identifirs as female. Uses female pronouns. Introduces herself as female.

All day every day.

FissionChips · 27/09/2018 12:49

I have also repeatly explained that gender is how you identify

But how does a person eat or sleep female?! Why won’t you answer it properly?!
