AIBU to feel a lot of sympathy for Lily Allen?

The description of her childhood in her recent memoir sounds horrible and extremely damaging. As described, her self indulgent showbiz parents may have paved the way for her in her career but seem to have failed on every other level. Very depressing, I hope she gets a good therapist.

I feel sympathy for anyone who loses a baby. Aside from that I think she’s unlikeable and craves publicity

9amtrain · 22/09/2018 13:50

@Miladymilord that was sarcasm in response to someone telling her to get a real job....

picklepost · 22/09/2018 15:31

@thisneverending

Wow that is one of the most bitter and spiteful posts I've seen in here.

Says a lot about you.

longwayoff · 22/09/2018 15:47

Thisnever, thats extremely unkind and unfair

No, I find her pitiful but don't feel sorry for her. Who can tell what the truth is with her anymore anyway?

hackmum · 22/09/2018 16:03

I don’t know her, so I neither like her nor dislike her. I do, however, feel sorry for her, because she lost her baby, she had a stalker who wanted to kill her and she was neglected by her parents. I would feel sorry for anyone who had been through all that. When I look at all the venom on a thread like this, I really wonder how people live with themselves.

bridgetoc · 22/09/2018 16:16

YABU.......... If you believe a word that comes out of her mouth, you're as unhinged as she is.

Nothing worse than a champagne socialist......

PrickWhittington · 22/09/2018 17:24

@prick and you know what addicts who aren’t as rich do to find their addiction? They steal, lie and beg. Please don’t be so naive

No shit, sherlock.

I said wealth would make it easier to access things like drugs. Not having to steal lie and beg for them is easier, no? Being surrounded by hangers on etc who can get you the best quality stuff with minimal fuss would also make it easier given how rife Class A's and all manner of other stuff are within the entertainment industry.

I'm not in the least bit naive.

Strongmummy · 22/09/2018 18:00

@prick you miss my point. By having money you don’t have to add additional crimes to your already criminal activity!! And the better the gear the less likely that it’s been mixed with rat poison etc.....

longwayoff · 22/09/2018 18:14

Bridgetoc, quite a few things worse than a champagne socialist, some not very far from here.

All those saying they like Lily. She's a too cool for school type who wouldn't give you the shit off her shoe. I actually think she's a bit of a snob. I do feel sorry for her though. Her parents sound very unstable and no one should suffer a horrible stillbirth.

TheLastNigel · 22/09/2018 19:31

I feel sorry for her because I think she's a bit mentally ill and despite all her money she hasn't seemed to get hold of the right support for it.
She is intelligent and comes across quite well when I've heard her interviewed-she's funny at times and I've liked some of the things she has to say about various political bits-plus I don't mind her music-but underneath it all she just seems desperately unhappy.

MMor · 22/09/2018 19:40

she apologised to some refugees on behalf of everyone in her country

^ yeah total twat for doing that. apparently she had difficulty evicting her (rich, foreign) tenants who paid a lot of money for the privilege. so much for helping the refugees!!!!!! self-serving, sanctimonious idiot that she was.

She's a too cool for school type who wouldn't give you the shit off her shoe. I actually think she's a bit of a snob

^Derxas got it!

BUT she did make a couple of good records to be fair.

MMor · 22/09/2018 19:44

also her wealth also made it easier to get therapy and support, much, much easier. as well as having somewhere decent to live, be able to afford good food, holidays etc.

Beaverhausen · 22/09/2018 20:10

Did she not say with the whole refugee hooha that if her flat in London was not occupied she would move refugees into it and then the beginning of the year she declared she was homeless as her tenant would not move out. Which turned out to be a load of BS as the poor tenant (who was an embassy worker and who was paying her something like £3000 a week to rent) had no idea she was expected to move out, but made it easy on poor ol Lily by moving out the following week.

PawneeParksDept · 22/09/2018 20:18

I find her problematic

She has been repeatedly caught out lying about various things so I take everything she says with a pinch of salt

She is the girl Pulp sang about in Common People

I have every sympathy for her stillbirth loss, it happened to a friend of mine and it irrevocably changed her in many many ways

However, she also openly admits to avoiding the D.C. she does have because they seem to favour their DF which is a very odd statement on a number of levels and throws up many questions

MrsDesireeCarthorse · 22/09/2018 20:20

Whatever Lily Allen's background, she comes across as a very unpleasant person and a shite parent. I don't believe her childhood is entirely responsible. I also doubt many people feeling sorry for her feel sorry for eg Kerry Katona, who had worse minus the privilege, although Allen is just as bad.

I read a serious article with Katona about her childhood once, and she was genuinely moving. She was actually very dignified; it's sad that there is no money in being an inspiration for what she overcame, but loads in selling her circus of a life - same as Allen, by the way. She's no different to Lauren Goodger et al, flogging her fuck-ups.

AtLastAPlan · 22/09/2018 20:33

Grin She's the girl Pulp sang about in Common People. You might want to check your facts there Pawnee. She'd have been 10 Grin

MrsDesireeCarthorse · 22/09/2018 20:37

"She's the girl Pulp sang about in Common People."

As in, she embodies that girl. Not that she genuinely was.

PawneeParksDept · 22/09/2018 20:43

@AtLastAPlan

What @MrsDesireeCarthorse said...

I did think what I meant was plain Confused

Gingertam · 22/09/2018 20:44

Sick of hearing about her "terrible" childhood. Exclusive public schools, producer mummy who lived with Harry Enfield. Pretends to be working class. Lots of people have much worse childhoods than her. Sick of seeing her on everything at the moment.

itsbetterthanabox · 22/09/2018 20:46

Come on the artic monkeys are MUCH worse.
But I don't like that she bought prostituted women so I'm not a fan.

PawneeParksDept · 22/09/2018 20:47

I think she believes the Working Class Bollocks image she markets herself as, apparently she understands hardship because she watched Mummy scrimp for school fees, which you know is totally akin to watching Mummy sell things to buy food and heating

Itchytights · 22/09/2018 20:49

Vile specimen.

Cannot stand her. Such an egotistical individual.

Needs to crawl back under the rock she came out of.

Sugarformyhoney · 22/09/2018 20:50

She reminds me of the George Michael song Starpeople. She’s that exact type. I reckon a lot of what she talks is absolute shite. Tries to be s socialist when she hasn’t got half a clue.
I used to like her music, but now she makes me cringe.
