To admire Theresa May

As a woman. I don't agree with her policies and brexit strategies but I do think she is an amazingly strong and powerful figure, with the confidence to stick to her beliefs, even in the face of such negativity! That takes guts!
Watching her in Brussels surrounded by a crowd of important men, I did think good on her for standing up to them. Anyone agree?
She gets a lot of negative press and i never hear of her being shown as a role model for women.

I don't believe that she's good at the detail, actually. Where's the detailed preparation for a no deal Brexit? All she's done is cross her fingers and hope that the EU will back down and give her what she wants. I suspect that she's got as far as she has through being a bully, and nothing else. And she's been extremely dishonest to the British people, hiding the bad news from them to reduce opposition to Brexit. And when she was Home Secretary, she constantly hid research which showed that immigrants gave to the country financially, rather thank taking from it. Because she is racist and wants immigrants out.

The problems with mental health services, care provision, NHS, prisons etc are in large part down to austerity. The UK is in massive debt, it was rising due to the interest payments year on year. The austerity has meant that a corner has been turned, we are starting to pay off the debt, but only just. Of course Brexit will turn that all to shit and the debt will rise again and austerity will last longer

Not sure what labour would do as an alternative to austerity, but probably something like try to spend way out of debt. Maybe that would have worked better no one could know.

I’m so angry about Brexit and hope to god my kids will get jobs when they leave school - it’s hard enough now and I suspect will get even harder when trade is harder and not as much money coming in to the UK

But I don’t blame TM, I blame leavers

I admire her greatly.

Do people think triggering Article 40 without any semblance of a plan was a good idea?

Rhetorical question. I mean, clearly loads of you do. Grin

That is so weird. It was SUCH a mistake. And all down to her.

I'd strongly recommend watching Keir Starmer's speech on Brexit, from earlier today. May is an embarrassment compared to him. Starmer is respected within the EU because he understands the value of negotiation, discussion to reach a mutually agreeable conclusion, not just pushing some fudged together plan with no idea of how it can work in practice.

I don't think either party has a solid plan for Brexit, but I am clear that no one in the Conservative Party is capable of negotiating a good deal because they've become a laughing stock to the EU.

@Maidsrus You might be confusing the deficit with national debt. The deficit has now been cut, but national debt has doubled since 2010. It now stands at £1.8 trillion. Austerity solves nothing, except making the gap between rich and poor even greater.

I would never vote Tory but I do admire Theresa May for sticking around to do a thankless job when the shits who caused this mess balked at the work and left her to it.

The bloody-mindedness - I sometimes wonder if she's holding on for dear life in the hope of forcing a reversal of Brexit. I can't think of another reason for sticking with the Chequers 'plan'.

Nat6999 · 25/09/2018 21:21

The problem is that she's sat on the cliff edge that she is so keen on talking about, most of her own party are stood behind her daring each other to push her off & the ones who don't push her are all going to stab whoever does in the back. The Tories are just like a class of naughty kids all sticking the finger up at the teacher when her back is turned & whispering but not wanting to get caught & blaming each other.

This is so sexist to both men and women. We should admire her because as a woman she is strong. A poor little woman actually being strong. People should be judged on their actions not their sex ffs. Her actions are abhorrent and dangerous. She should be in jail.
