To admire Theresa May

As a woman. I don't agree with her policies and brexit strategies but I do think she is an amazingly strong and powerful figure, with the confidence to stick to her beliefs, even in the face of such negativity! That takes guts!
Watching her in Brussels surrounded by a crowd of important men, I did think good on her for standing up to them. Anyone agree?
She gets a lot of negative press and i never hear of her being shown as a role model for women.

TM has an impossible task. But if there were to be another GE soon I would vote Tory. Hell would freeze over before I voted Labour with that useless twat steering their ship.

I think TM is doing all she can to get the best deal for UK. I can't think of anyone else who would do a better job.

movpov · 22/09/2018 09:57

I am not and have never been a fan but I think she was left in the shit when Cameron walked away and she is trying to do an impossible job whilst surrounded by people squabbling like kids in the playground and plotting to stab her in the back and bring her down. I think she lacks people and leadership skills and is out of her depth but in a way I admire her for sticking with it - many others would have just said stuff it and thrown in the towel before now. And let's be honest - who else is there? Out of that lot there's not one you could say would be an effective replacement

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 22/09/2018 10:00

Well she certainly had the hardest job as the PM than anyone in recent years

Unfortunately she can win or be successful because she has to deal with Brexit

And every MP that blindly support for the referendum to happen is guilty that we are in this mess but not many are actually doing anything about it apart from claiming the plan isn’t good enough or it will be a disaster why they fuck didn’t you think about that beforehand

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 22/09/2018 10:01

She can’t win

lemonadefloat · 22/09/2018 10:02

YANBU
Easy for the twats David Davies and Boris to sit on the sidelines criticising but they didn't step up when the shit hit the fan. She's doing the best she can to see through what she said she'd do ie Brexit.

No doubt though we should be having a second referendum.

lemonadefloat · 22/09/2018 10:02

I meant to say also that David/Boris are responsible and have not taken responsibility. I have ZERO respect for that pair of twats.

Bumbledop · 22/09/2018 10:04

I agree op. I think she’s an amazing role model for women. Whether you agree with her politics or not she’s a tough cookie!

Unfinishedkitchen · 22/09/2018 10:19

She’s hard headed and won’t listen to others. Those are not good traits. Early on in her premiership she had been called a ‘bloody difficult woman’. She tried to peddle that tag as being a positive attribute similar to Thatcher being the ‘Iron Lady’ but being difficult is not positive at all.

Autumnwindy · 22/09/2018 10:20

How on earth can we push the date back when the mps can't agree. That won't help anything

Pushing it back we will still have the same problem which is mps who are renainers are not helping.

We need a cross party brexit cabinet.

Ie with Kate hoey, Frank field, Gisella maybe even corbyn and Mcdonald 😂😂😂

You couldn't write this stuff and be believed.
I hope in the thick of it are working on all this.

But that's the only way to get through.

MissEliza · 22/09/2018 10:31

Just saw on Twitter that Barry Gardiner said 'Never interrupt your enemy when they're making a mistake'. Electoral politics over national interest. One of the benefits of multi party democracy is that an effective opposition which challenges and criticises the government and offers alternatives can actually help develop better policy choices. In other words, if Labour stood up and said what they believed they would provide a counter weight to the hard line Tories who think they own Brexit. This is about the future of the country for generations.
I also believe Corbyn's low profile in the referendum debate contributed to the Yes vote. A lot of Labour voters voted Yes because Labour failed to respond to their concerns.

Autumnwindy · 22/09/2018 10:36

Well that's an under statement. Gordon brown publicly snubbed that woman on TV didn't he and called her a bigot!

Labour helped to create the concerns let alone actually address them.

Rememory · 22/09/2018 13:38

Sky News have a guy on spinning it that she's strong and stable and the EU are being unreasonable to not bow down to what she wants.

Juells · 22/09/2018 13:42

"We demand that the EU comes up with a workable solution for us, as we haven't been able to."

mostdays · 22/09/2018 13:43

Pushing it back we will still have the same problem which is mps who are renainers are not helping.

I think if we are are the stage we are and perfectly normal people like the pp who said that upthread are still of this opinion then we really are fucked.

youlethergo · 22/09/2018 13:45

No, I don't agree. I think she's fundamentally dishonest, arrogant, brittle and without people skills.

PlinkPlink · 22/09/2018 13:47

I know it's not popular but I like her too OP.

Hugely male dominated in politics. Though it's becoming less-so. She keeps ploughing on and I like that about her. I think she's very strong and whether I agree with her policies or not, I find that very admirable.

youlethergo · 22/09/2018 13:48

Yesterday's speech was, ahead of the conference, purely to make herself look a strong leader to her party despite her utter failure of a week which was all her own fault - her own failure to listen and the assumption that busy world leaders would have the time and mental space to focus on Brexit despite their having asked her to negotiate with their chosen representative, the agenda being about something completely unrelated and more important (immigration in Europe) and the small matters that she has already received a response from them regarding Chequers and has failed to do the work required to put her own proposal forward re the border.

Theworldisfullofgs · 22/09/2018 13:49

I know people who work and have worked with her.
No I have no admiration for her whatsoever.

youlethergo · 22/09/2018 13:50

Donald Tusk's people and the rest of the EU leadership were also furious over the cake tweet - they did not have an agenda to offend and this was a misguided joke on one person's part that ended up offended everyone. So her tantrum about it was unnecessary

youlethergo · 22/09/2018 13:52

She is also weak in that she appoints bullying advisers who will deal with the world for her in a very bullying, dismissive way and then leans on them inappropriately to think for her.

She doesn't have the gifts to match her job and would have been weeded out long before becoming PM in the normal course of events. She was also responsible for some callous decisions as Home Secretary, then blamed the results of these (when PM) on the next person in the job.

I started off trusting her and liking her but have become disillusioned.

Theworldisfullofgs · 22/09/2018 13:54

And anyone who uses Nick Timothy and Fiona Hill as advisors ...well words fail me.
It was easy to create a hostile environment as she created that internally in the Home Office before rolling it out to the rest of the country.

youlethergo · 22/09/2018 13:54

Also, I have never seen an election campaign solely founded on bullying jokes about the opposition before. I was shocked by how low she was prepared to stoop. She is nasty.

Thomasinaa · 22/09/2018 13:54

YABVVVU. I can't imagine anyone doing a worse job. Both hugely immoral and hugely incompetent. She is deliberately destroying the country. And it's still all about her.

Ta1kinpeace · 22/09/2018 13:56

She is a Racist Xenophobe who turned the Home Office into a really nasty department.

The sooner she leaves politics the better.

youlethergo · 22/09/2018 13:56

Also, her wildly expensive wardrobe speaks volumes about her disregard for the growing gap between rich and poor in this country and the children growing up in poverty.
