Macron's behaviour is despicable

I am a moderate remainer, I say that because I do feel we should respect the vote. I am not a remainer who think a second ref will help. A second ref won't help regardless of the outcome, because the other side will simply demand another one, and another and so it would go on indefinitely and it is utterly futile and pointless.

I had come to the conclusion that a good deal would be the best outcome in the end. However I am just appalled at the behaviour and language coming out of the EU, and particularly Macron.

I am now even thinking what is the point? What is the point in continuing with any 'deal'? They are clearly not remotely interested.

May (for all her faults, and she has many) should gather her dignity and call it a day. We were there in good faith, the chequers plan is not perfect but it was a starting point. I had hoped it would work. It would have offered a solution of sorts.

I have cancelled our holiday next year to France. I don't want to go anywhere so openly hostile, despite the fact we have been holidaying there for my entire living life. I can't support Macron's comments that were both needlessly humiliating and rude to our prime minister.

Thoughts?

I always feel that these 'we'll thrive outside the EU' are more emotionally based responses than anything else.

Snowymountainsalways · 21/09/2018 14:11

Wow, that was some speech.

That was the best speech she has ever delivered.

The EU is like a club and it has fundamental principles and rules. Why can brexit voters not understand that?

Perhaps because - as shown in my link above - many members are quick to ignore those much-vaunted rules when it suits?

Juells · 21/09/2018 14:12

May doing a "we'll fight them on the beaches". "The EU needs to be clear that we blah blah blah..."

Mookatron · 21/09/2018 14:13

What? It was a pile of shite. She said nothing. "Biggest democratic process" my arse. Completely bent and undiplomatic.

Snowymountainsalways · 21/09/2018 14:13

No resignation and a power speech from the heart from May. Clearly she has run out of patience.

On a separate note I loved the velvet jacket :)

Fuck's sake, what a prat. I hope she hasn't made sterling plummet again.

Snowymountainsalways · 21/09/2018 14:14

So does May's speech effectively mean no deal.

I think it does. Without spelling it out.

AuldAlliance · 21/09/2018 14:15

*Wow, that was some speech.

That was the best speech she has ever delivered.*

That was a lot of empty words.
With a despicable reference to unchecked immigration within the first few minutes.
And an effort to be inappropriately Churchillian

Snowymountainsalways · 21/09/2018 14:15

As we stand no deal is where we are.

OP posts:
SnipSnipMrBurgess · 21/09/2018 14:15

We stand ready at the end finished me off.

This isn't love actually, this isn't a rousing speech or fighting talk.

What a load of rehearsed shite

AuldAlliance · 21/09/2018 14:16

Bold fail.

MrsPatmore · 21/09/2018 14:16

Sterling is losing more ground

Defrack · 21/09/2018 14:16

She has a point. We can't accept northern Ireland being isolated from us and breaking up our union and they can't accept their principles being broken.

Snowymountainsalways · 21/09/2018 14:17

Look credit where it is due AuldAlliance May is really not known for her speeches, they are often wooden and uncomfortable.

I am relieved she hasn't resigned and offered the job to Boris to be fair, so anything would better than that!

OP posts:
linkylink · 21/09/2018 14:18

Isn't she saying give me a counter offer or its no deal?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 21/09/2018 14:18

That was the best speech she has ever delivered

I'm inclined to agree. In effect she's said "you gave us no reason for your objections and just tossed whatever we suggest aside, so over to you to suggest something better - and in the meantime we'll continue to plan for a "no deal" exit"

As said, I firmly believe the EU are acting in bad faith, merely aiming to make an example of us to prevent others leaving. Under the circumstances I believe the PM has therefore done the right thing

Havanananana · 21/09/2018 14:18

@Snowymountainsalways

Wow, that was some speech.

That was the best speech she has ever delivered.

So you are Theresa May Smile (or maybe Dominic Raab)

Snowymountainsalways · 21/09/2018 14:18

Yes I think so

Shame about her lies she was spouting, ones that have been thoroughly debunked. There is NO uncontrolled immigration. It is clear she still hasn't bothered to read the rules.
A disgrace.

WhatchaMaCalllit · 21/09/2018 14:20

Just after seeing the Sky News breaking story "UK PM Theresa May demands new proposals from the EU to break Brexit impasse after Chequers plan rejected by EU Leaders".

Well if that doesn't smack of "I've done my homework but you're not happy with it so if you're not happy with it, do it yourself!" mentality I don't know.

  1. Why is she demanding? She should respectfully request (based on this thread).
  2. She's demanding the EU comes up with a proposal. It has. It's called staying in the EU.
Bombardier25966 · 21/09/2018 14:20

Wow, that was some speech.

You're easily pleased. She's spent two years working night and day, and achieved ... Zip. Nothing. Nada.

But as long as the speech was good!

Juells · 21/09/2018 14:20

No resignation and a power speech from the heart from May. Clearly she has run out of patience.

Yes, that's really going to work to whip the EU into line. 😂

It's like the British government have absolutely no idea how the EU works, and thinks that if it keeps chipping away the EU will cave.

1tisILeClerc · 21/09/2018 14:20

it is for the UK to come up with a workable solution NOT the EU.

AuldAlliance · 21/09/2018 14:20

It was wooden and uncomfortable. And the end was laughable. Admittedly oratorial standards aren't v high where TM is concerned, but that was embarrassing.
I think she grimaces a lot because she is stuck between innumerable rocks and hard places...
