to think our children will not forgive us if we don't sort Brexit out

DFiL voted Leave. He's not thick and he had his reasons but, to be frank, he's 80 and not going to have to live with the consequences long term. Especially, if the NHS don't manage to stockpile his multiple medications in the event of a No Deal.

AIBU to think we all need to kick up an almighty stink to ensure that our Government makes a deal that will protect our children's futures - even if that means remaining. Jacob Rees Mogg and his ERG buddies predict it could be 50 years for the UK to see the benefits of leaving the EU. That's too late for my DD.

Austerity has damaged enough lives, we can't let Brexit do more harm. It's no good shrugging and saying "Leave won". If this isn't sorted out there will be no winners.

Some of the lies promotors by Leave.

Hesta54 · 20/09/2018 14:31

Oh come on, Brexit, smexit, Strictly come dancing starts properly Saturday, Zoe’s back with it takes two, so, who do you thinks go to win the glitter ball this year ?

BadderWolf · 20/09/2018 14:31

Sadly, I don't think the tide will turn without substantial civil unrest tbh. The peaceful protest approach has no purchase with this government.

Cobblersandhogwash · 20/09/2018 14:31

Thy said it was going to be easy.

to think our children will not forgive us if we don't sort Brexit out
pigsDOfly · 20/09/2018 14:32

Well there's not much answer to that NameChanger22 if that's your final word.

All the lovely poor people voted to remain and all the nasty rich people voted to leave.

Okay.

scatterolight · 20/09/2018 14:32

Whether or not Brexit is a "disaster" depends entirely on who you are.

If you are upper class and wanted Jemima to go and study in Milan, before settling in Paris and becoming an influencer working for Instagram then yes, it could be a disaster.

If you're originally from mainland Europe, have settled in Britain, and were hoping your family, elderly parents, aunties and uncles could come and join you at some point then yes, it could be a disaster.

If you're middle class and loved your limitless supply of adorable, cheap, Romanian cleaners, and your highly educated degree-holding Polish plumbers and Portuguese baristas then yes, it could be a disaster.

If you're just an ordinary person, who doesn't give a fuck about any of the above, and who just wants less immigration, less wage suppression, less competition for jobs, less pressure on the housing market, less pressure on health services, primary schools and infrastructure, then Brexit will not be a disaster.

And aside from questions of self-interest, if you're an ordinary person who believes that democracy and sovereignty are important for the health and happiness of a nation - which includes a) honouring a democratic vote and b) having an actual demos - then Brexit is our only way forward.

Cobblersandhogwash · 20/09/2018 14:32

There is no bloody plan.

to think our children will not forgive us if we don't sort Brexit out
NameChanger22 · 20/09/2018 14:33

@NameChanger22 ironically your comments make you sound bitter, ignorant and nasty. I voted to leave, I’m in my 30’s and I’m not in the slightest bit racist.

Why do people take a random comment by a stranger on Mumsnet and think it's all about them? I said there are exceptions, you're one of them.

Helmetbymidnight · 20/09/2018 14:33

frankly I think the UK would actually be better off on WTO terms and just get on with it and regain its self confidence in the world.

The crap Brexiteers continue to come out with is bewildering.

NotSuchASmugMarriedNow1 · 20/09/2018 14:34

Civil unrest?????

I'm not killing someone just because I didn't agree with what they voted for!

ManicUnicorn · 20/09/2018 14:34

Why did you vote leave then JellyBears, if it wasn't because of 'forriners comin over 'ere and stealin all our jobs'.

Cobblersandhogwash · 20/09/2018 14:34

@scatterolight we need a vote on the details of the deal. To assess and evaluate what exactly faced us.

Only an absolute moron would sign up to something without knowing the details.

JellyBears · 20/09/2018 14:35

@NameChanger22 my point was all sorts of people from different walks of life voted to leave not just nasty Ignorant old racists as you so lovingly put.

I’m from a farming background and a lot of farmers want to leave for various reason I won’t bore you with.

But thank you or saying I’m an exception I appreciate that.

BadderWolf · 20/09/2018 14:36

Haha Cobblersandhogwash those are some of the dark ads from vote leave/leave.eu connected illegally funded campaign that continued to be promoted during the political moratorium period after Jo Cox's murder, I think. A timely reminder of how this sorry affair has exposed the absolute joke of British values such democracy, rule of law and tolerance. It saddens me greatly to say I think it's all gone to far to pull back...

NameChanger22 · 20/09/2018 14:36

*All the lovely poor people voted to remain and all the nasty rich people voted to leave.

Okay.*

Not my final word. I'm just trying to point out it's not true that the poor voted leave and the rich voted remain, which is the lie being peddled by mainstream media.

JellyBears · 20/09/2018 14:37

@ManicUnicorn lol your reply made me chuckle. I voted to leave because the EU regulations are ruining farming, fishing etc

As a nanny a lot of my employers are foreigners who I hope stay haha

vandrew4 · 20/09/2018 14:37

Leavers: you lost, stfu , I'm bored of this, blue passports
the only reference I can see to blue passports is this intelligent post from a remainer:

This threads shows how leavers and remainers differ.
Remainers: I'm worried about xyz because of abc reasons
Leavers: you lost, stfu , I'm bored of this, blue passports

RedToothBrush · 20/09/2018 14:37

If you're just an ordinary person, who doesn't give a fuck about any of the above, and who just wants less immigration, less wage suppression, less competition for jobs, less pressure on the housing market, less pressure on health services, primary schools and infrastructure, then Brexit will not be a disaster.

If ONLY that is what is going to happen.

I hope you are right and I am wrong. Very genuinely.

The problem is we have too many massive issues that are independent of Brexit and result directly out of Brexit which make this highly unlikely or make any benefits be over shadowed and eclipsed by other issues such as huge rises in the cost of living.

Personally, I could cope with the loss if it improved things for others. Including the hit to my pride.

We will find out the hard way I fear.

BanananananaDaiquiri · 20/09/2018 14:40

I can see how Brexit may lead to less immigration and by extension less competition for certain jobs, but wage suppression, the unaffordable housing market/high private rents, and the lack of investment in the NHS, schools and infrastructure is a result of domestic government policy and nothing to do with the EU. Do you trust the Tories to suddenly start pumping millions into the NHS or schools, or to preserve and enhance employees' rights? If so, why do you expect them to start doing this post-Brexit when they've had eight years to do so already and have only done the opposite? Genuine questions.

NameChanger22 · 20/09/2018 14:40

I can understand why farmers would want to leave. Too much competition from the EU. Soon they'll be able to charge whatever the hell they like. Not great for the rest of us.

ManicUnicorn · 20/09/2018 14:41

JellyBear quite happy to exploit cheap foreign labour then?

Sohardtochooseausername · 20/09/2018 14:41

I’m currently working in a country outside the EU that was considered 3rd world until recently - and it’s a place that has experienced an ‘economic miracle’ - eg lots of companies and shareholders are making lots of money. However. All the young people in my team here have been telling me house prices are as high as London and if you’re under 30 you can forget about home ownership.

So - the EU clearly ain’t to blame for our economic problems.

So yes. March. Petition. Demand the people’s vote. We can’t leave without knowing what the choice was. (I did vote remain though, because I was always well aware of the individual benefits of EU eg freedom of movement, education and employment. I’d love my dd to have the same benefits as I did.)

RollerJed · 20/09/2018 14:42

Sarah48Midlands · 20/09/2018 14:43

Let us all be Adults here, the only reasonable outcome for Brexit is a hard one! I completely agree with his comments about May lacking the balls to take us through this hard time for our country. Let's end Immigration. Let's stop being the EU whipping toy!

Isitsixoclockalready · 20/09/2018 14:43

Without a deal, Brexit will be a mess. Anyone who thinks that it's as simple as 'trading on WTO terms' has no idea of the complexities of our current setup or the real repercussions of a no-deal brexit.
