Petty I know but (Would) IBU to copy everyone into the reply?

I know this is quite a petty gripe but it's been eating away at me all evening so I've turned to the reasonable minds of MN.

I'm working on a project in which I have to complete a certain aspect before a colleague can complete her bit. The deadline is looming so about 3 weeks ago she e-mailed me asking me to send her my bit when I was done. I replied that same afternoon with my finished section saying if she wanted me to make any changes or had any comments to let me know soon as and it'd be my first priority.

I didn't hear anything back so all was well in the world. Earlier this afternoon I received an e-mail from her basically saying "Vlad, I asked you to send me xyz 3 weeks ago so I could complete abc as the deadline is nearing. Where is it? Can you send it ASAP." She'd copied in her manager, my manager and their managers too, along with a few others on the edges of the project.

She's not a malicious person so what I suspect happened is that her manager basically asked her where it was as he probably wanted to have a once-over before we declared it finished. So she must have panicked and just sent the e-mail to everyone.

Thing is, if she'd just e-mailed me or just came over to me to ask about it I would have happily said 'Here it is.... I sent it to you that day but you must have overlooked it.'

Now I feel like copying in all the people in the e-mail she sent with a PA reply. As I see it - even if I take the high road and just quietly e-mail her to the others it will look as though I dropped the ball and suddenly picked it back up again when brought to attention.

I've had quite a fairly long and extensive career so I'm not a stranger to these sorts of antics but for one or two reasons this has really irked me.

If you're still with me: WIBU to copy everyone else into the reply saying I sent this to you the same day you asked me about it (which incidentally was to schedule), or should I just send it to her alone in an e-mail and think no more of it?

@Pgs007 - you're a great person to have around, after an issue has been well and truly resolved. Grin

HappyBumbleBee · 20/09/2018 20:41

I've not time to read through entire thread right now but I would definitely reply to all as she cc'd them all in in the first place. I think just replying to her and not everyone would look worse to managers etc than including them all in. X

Boobsarenotloadbearing · 20/09/2018 20:44

Not petty at all. You should show it was done. I would reply all attaching or copy/pasting my original email (including date sent)...

Pgs007 · 20/09/2018 20:48

@TheDowagerCuntess didnt get round to finishing as had to get kid back to bed Hmm

Shewhomustbeobeyed1 · 20/09/2018 21:20

I would reply all and attach the original email and say. “Resending email sent on...” and leave it at that. Keep it simple

browneyes77 · 20/09/2018 21:36

I’ve had this happen to me. Where people have emailed me about something I supposedly haven’t done and CC’d my manager in.

I ALWAYS reply all and attach the evidence. No way I’m going to be accused of shit I haven’t done and have people try and drop me in it!

Glad you chose to respond the way you did OP!!

perfectstorm · 20/09/2018 21:42

Good to see you cancelled that cheque so professionally and expeditiously, OP. Grin Happy endings!

Barbie222 · 20/09/2018 21:51

Yep, forward the original email and copy in!

Baaba · 20/09/2018 23:56

Copy all and attach the original email into it stating 'as per my original email dated xxxx'

Seabreeze18 · 21/09/2018 06:07

.

ZanyMobster · 21/09/2018 08:58

This makes me laugh so much, I swear it's getting worse on MN, no one RTFT anymore. I had a thread last week and it was ridiculous, people kept responding with 'why don't you do X'. I must have answered that question 5 times, other posters even came on and said OP has answered that several times.

It's pretty annoying and lazy, up there with people being late - their time more important than yours Grin

Mummyof0ne · 21/09/2018 10:18

100% copy everyone in

ICantBelieveIDidThis · 21/09/2018 10:32

The OP "replied all with the original email" on Page 12 (19/09/2018 22:38)

Please RTFT.

Hillarious · 21/09/2018 10:42

The OP did the right thing. She gave a factual reply in a very polite e-mail, which got the attention of her colleague's boss. No need to draw attention to the colleague's oversight any more than that. We all make mistakes from time to time and if you make too big a deal of someone else's, you're not going to get much help or understanding when you make a mistake.

nononsene · 21/09/2018 10:52

Ha, This happened to me too. Twat colleague copied everyone in up to to c-suite level asking why file was late. I replied all attaching the original email where I sent the file, which everyone had been sent anyway.

Twat colleague dropped everyone else from the email when he apologised.

My boss hates him so I got a big thumbs up!

I find it strangely heartening that some people read the OP and think they've come up with a ground-breaking, life-changing solution that no one has thought to suggest in the preceding 13 pages, so they break their neck to post their Very Important Solution without stopping to notice the 200 other identical suggestions or the fact that the entire incident happened, and was resolved, days ago.

I'd love to have such an iron-clad conviction in the life-changing value of my humble opinion Grin

Boulty · 21/09/2018 15:02

You got me at 'reasonable minds'..... whatever gave you that idea!

Boulty · 21/09/2018 15:04

As others have said... copy everyone in that she did saying I sent the reply to you on the xth … it case you have overlooked it in your emails here is another copy.

WinterBerry7 · 21/09/2018 15:05

Have you cancelled the cheque OP?

Boulty · 21/09/2018 15:05

I have done what others have done... don't have hours to spend on here so read and send a quick reply... to those of you with hours to spend commenting that it was resolved and refer to pages x y x paragraphs 2 sub section 3a …. find something else to do

TheDowagerCuntess · 21/09/2018 20:58

This exactly! ^^ 😂

Honestly - we really are happy to wait while you read, if not the thread, then the OP's replies - which are helpfully provided in a different colour - before you impart your wisdom. Grin

Who comes onto a 300+ post thread and thinks their contribution alone is the genius one?

delphguelph · 21/09/2018 21:01

Forward original, copy everyone, date sent highlighted in yellow if you're feeling wild.

Havaina · 21/09/2018 21:07

Reply all, say you've already sent this to her on xx date and go to 'Attach item' and attach the email. Don't forward, you need to reply all to highlight her twattiness to all.

Jokez, I already responded waaaaaaaaay up thread, but hey, if you can't beat them, join them.

ZanyMobster · 21/09/2018 21:09

Shecame - good point.

Boulty - I didn't read every post, just skimmed and read the OPs posts which are highlighted. If the thread is pages and pages long it is fairly likely the OP has updated.

ZanyMobster · 21/09/2018 21:10

Havaina - sorry delph beat you to it with the amazing advice Grin
