So sick of people trying to talk this country down. Happy to see most people think this is pathetic scaremongering from bitter people that can’t get over that the vote didn’t go their way!

Arguing that brexit is like making Christmas dinner or the Eu is like alcohol is just nonsense.

It’s a complex series of arrangements that will be extremely difficult to replace and will make us much poorer and less powerful.

The only people who aren’t concerned about this are some of the rich who want this- or the completely witless.

buttermilkwaffles · 14/09/2018 15:59

That Reuters article/link where Carney is clearly saying it is not a prediction is from today, by the way -

"Carney did not directly address the media reports in a question and answer session after a speech at the Irish central bank, but said bank ‘stress test’ scenarios in which house prices fell sharply did not amount to a prediction from the BoE.

“That’s not a prediction of what’s going to happen, but that’s what we need to do in order to make sure that ... the system is very clearly and transparently ... able to continue to lend,” he said.

HirplesWithHaggis · 14/09/2018 16:06

And then the campaign to rejoin will begin in earnest.

Won't post-Brexit Britain be too poor to rejoin?

Actually, thinking about it, isn't there a veto on who gets membership? If I were a Dutch MEP I might be a tiny bit pissed off at my country having spent billions on infrastructure because of Brexit. And if I were Irish, well... we might not be accepted back at all.

HirplesWithHaggis · 14/09/2018 16:07

We might not be accepted back at all... especially if we renege on the divorce bill. As we keep threatening.

WhirlyGigWhirlyGig · 14/09/2018 16:11

Sorry not sorry butterfly but Brexiteers do come across as thick and dumb because you can never seem to demonstrate any critical thinking and when repeatedly asked to explain how things will be better, you all just bleat on about the same tripe you've been bleating on about for over two years.

I've not read from one single 'ordinary' person that doesn't have huge personal wealth, anything that shows how it will all be wonderful and worth it in the end. It's all just repeated words that mean absolutely nothing.

Go on, show us your reasoning, please, we've asked you all enough times 🙄

LaurieMarlow · 14/09/2018 16:13

Given the fuckery the UK has put the EU through over brexit, I can't imagine them wanting to engage with the UK again.

jasjas1973 · 14/09/2018 16:14

Aunt EU insisted I use metric needles, and the wool was imported rather than the special English lambs wool I prefer, and when I offered to make tea for our knitting bee, she made me use a kettle with a EUROPEAN PLUG and I don't have a converter!
It was awful, and I decided to leave. I now knit things I like

Why didn't she have a euro plug? you were at her house! have you spend the last 40years trying to sabotage everything Aunty EU has tried to improve?

Now you'll be at home with an unsafe kettle imported from China, along with knitting needles that break and wool soaked in OrganoPhosphate..... just like the old days!!! lol!

Strange we are allowed our completely different wiring given the EU control ALL aspects of our lives Confused

DioneTheDiabolist · 14/09/2018 16:28

Mostly I haven't been voicing concerns Quiet, I have been busy with a horrendous pregnancy. a crazy baby and getting my head around being middle aged mum.Blush

I voted Remain and following the result I had no desire to repeat the referendum. So I accepted that we were leaving and expected our government to get to work to make leaving as painless and beneficial as possible.

I obviously expected too much.Hmm Instead of getting on with things my Local Assembly closed up shop and the Tory Party played a protracted Game of Thrones. It was entertaining to watch.Grin

But it was a massive distraction and no work has been done. We are due to leave in 6 months and we are not ready. We haven't even sorted our borders out and thanks to the weakness of the Tory Party and their reliance on the DUP, this is unlikely to be sorted out in time. How can we leave when we have no deal on border arrangements?

We needed to get the best deal possible. What we've got so far is chaos and farce. We have negotiated nothing except what we will pay the EU when we eventually split. We are currently in no position to leave. We haven't even sorted out what we are leaving, never mind what we are going to.

"Happy to see most people think this is pathetic scaremongering from bitter people that can’t get over that the vote didn’t go their way!"

I don't like (or agree with) being called pathetic, scare-mongering or bitter. I also think it's crap to be "happy" that a bunch of people see other people as having all those yucky traits. The hugely divisive nature of Brexit is the worst thing about it. Yet, there is OP celebrating the divisions :(.

On the whole, YADBU.

bellinisurge · 14/09/2018 18:16

Remain voter. No wish to rejoin after we leave because the chances of getting such a sweet deal are nil. We have access to a huge market but don't have to have the Euro. New joiners have to. We aren't in Schengen and may well have to if we rejoin.
Preferred to stay in with the sweet deal we had.

butterflysugarbaby · 14/09/2018 18:51

@WhirlyGigWhirlyGig

Well assuming people are THICK AND DUMB, just because they don't agree with all your ranty views and laughable opinions, just shows you up for the uneducated, and arrogant person you are. (And that goes for a few more remoaning posters on this thread.)

And no WAY is the UK ever going to want to rejoin the EU. Never gonna happen.

The sooner we leave the petulant, controlling, bratty, 'taking my ball home now' European Union, the better.

Funny how many of the remoaners also fit that description PMSL!

Keep moaning remoaners. WE ARE LEAVING.

Don't cry....... I will get you soon tissues if you need them. Sad

butterflysugarbaby · 14/09/2018 18:51

I will get you SOME tissues. (Not soon!)

(Fucking autocorrect!!!!) Hmm

bellinisurge · 14/09/2018 18:58

Not seen that pledge yet, @butterflysugarbaby . Did I miss it?

DioneTheDiabolist · 14/09/2018 18:58

butterflysugarbaby can you give me your case for leaving according to schedule? I have explained my concerns, but the only responses I am seeing from those pushing to leave on this thread are of the "Boo yah, you lost, get over it" variety. I have yet to see a coherent argument.

Helmetbymidnight · 14/09/2018 19:04

Well assuming people are THICK AND DUMB, just because they don't agree with all your ranty views and laughable opinions

That’s not why people think brexiteers are THICK and DUMB

Never going to want to rejoin the EU...... think some people have an inflated view of the UK on its own.Grin

jasjas1973 · 14/09/2018 20:49

@butterflysugarbaby

...i wont sink to your level but the demographics of the vote do in-fact show the less educated/lower earners/not in work, more likely to vote Leave but of course not all leave voters are stupid nor all remainers clever.

The world is going into an era of the trade war, think USA/Trump and China!
Little ole UK will struggle as we leave one of the worlds largest trading bloc's.

You may not care about a collapse in the £/balance of payments if we leave with no deal and soaring interest rates (the only way to defend the £) and all that history shows that 'll do for our economy but i care, i want a great country for my daughter to live in.

Maybe we 'll get a great deal and we 'll flourish but so far, that's not looking likely is it?

Had we 10 years to leave the EU and Tories weren't at war with themselves then maybe brexit could work, that is not where we are.

You seem to come across as someone who wants out of the EU purely on ideological reasons, spouting we won/remoaners/tissues blah blah blah just makes you look stupid, where is your vision or are like the ERG?.

Quietrebel · 14/09/2018 21:17

@dione
That's indeed a lot to deal with and doesn't much time for anything!
I really wish we didn't have this worry on top of all we have to deal with in everyday life...
One would have really thought a reasonable deal would be found. I thought that for a long time which is why I'm relatively new to these threads...

WhirlyGigWhirlyGig · 15/09/2018 09:51

butterfly I asked for your reasoning and facts and yet again all I get is another churlish rant. So I'll ask my original question again, show us your reasoning (a few facts would really be appreciated) as to why Brexit is a good thing and why all of us doom mongers are being just a little bit silly.

LaurieMarlow · 15/09/2018 10:01

There are no rational/logical arguments on the leave side.

The leave vote was an emotional outburst, prompted (at least in part) because people don't want to feel Johnny Foreigner is telling them what to do.

All of which ignores the fact that we were an active part of the EU, not a passenger and secondly, we live in the modern world and have to have agreements with other countries to function.

The bizarre thing is that leavers seem happy to have the WTO tell us what to do, but not the EU. Is that simply because the WTO is not 'France and Germany'?

bellinisurge · 15/09/2018 11:44

No One. No Country. At all. Survives on WTO rules. You have to make deals and alliances and trading groups. And we are just flushing down the toilet the one we had with our neighbours.

TheyBuiltThePyramids · 16/09/2018 18:12

I have read many, many of these threads and never once have I seen an inkling of a post that says how anything will improve after Brexit.

Cobblersandhogwash · 17/09/2018 11:09

There is only one country in the world that trades solely under WTO rules. Mauritania.

  • GDP is $4,714million (0.2% of the UK’s)
  • 50% of its exports consist of iron ore
  • Between 1% and 17% of the population still live in slavery

Doesn't look great, does it?

Do Leavers actually dig about, bother themselves with looking for evidence and proof of trading solely under the WTO?

Cobblersandhogwash · 17/09/2018 11:11

Don't cry....... I will get you soon tissues if you need them.

@butterflysugarbaby, this sort of shit, dumb response is the best you can do?

And you wonder why you're all considered a bit below par in the IQ department.
