So sick of people trying to talk this country down. Happy to see most people think this is pathetic scaremongering from bitter people that can’t get over that the vote didn’t go their way!

@Amanduh

I thought the comments on the article were positive and I just liked that people were optimistic about the future, apparently we should be frightened and toe the line! ¯\(ツ)/¯

I know. You likened me to Donald Trump.

I did, but your response was not meant for me, it was for Henry. You're getting confused, dear. Go and have a rest and read the Daily Mail to recharge your batteries.

My response was to you, not Henry. You told me I sounded like Donald Trump, that remainers were ‘against us’ and that I told immigrants to sling their hook. You know who I am as much as I know who you are.

OP, you sound like Farage, old and unworldly referencing the war and thinking that keeping 3 tins of beans in your cupboard will save this country

You responded:

I literally did not mention war or rationing. confused

You know who I am as much as I know who you are.

Not going to say you name changed then? Grin

Why do you want to leave the EU?

butterflysugarbaby · 14/09/2018 07:11

YANBU OP. But the remoaners do love to shout down the Brexiters and call them racist and bigoted and thick, and dish out the scaremongering.

I just smile sweetly, and count down the days til we leave. Smile

fascinated · 14/09/2018 07:11

YABU

You should instead despair at the failings in education that have made our population so gullible. But then again, perhaps it was deliberate. After all, half of the Brexiteers belong to the internationally mobile elite and may even benefit from currency arbitration etc around Brexit.

You then said

Urgh you're one of those who uses 'literally' incorrectly.

And I replied

But I literally didn’t mention what you said I did.

Not going to say you name changed then? Grin

I did name change. Because of the responses like yours Smile

Why do you want to leave the EU?

Because I no longer want the UK to be part of the Union.

Why do you no longer want the UK to be part of the [European] Union?
What changed your mind?

GhostofFrankGrimes · 14/09/2018 07:34

Random comments BTL on a tabloid newspaper site are supposed to be evidence that Brexit will be a success (Just believe!)?.

The impact assessments and everything that has happened since 2016 (pound tanking, businesses moving, loss of EU workers etc) suggest otherwise.

zsazsajuju · 14/09/2018 07:42

Being “optimistic “ about Brexit is like being optimistic about a nuclear strike. Daft.

Don’t agree about the pubes though- not necessary to shave them but wouldn’t say it was unhealthy. kind of keeps it all clean.

BeardedMum · 14/09/2018 07:53

Because who cares about the reports issued by the government this week on the likely effect of a no deal Brexit or what the governor of BoE is saying if random people commenting on a newspaper article think it will be just fine🤔Happy Days!

bellinisurge · 14/09/2018 07:54

I'm a prepper. Optimism is my game face in this coming shit show.

P3onyPenny · 14/09/2018 07:55

I'm loving the way they hid 30% house price drop warning from Bank of England behind mobile phone charges if we get no deal.

But hey op you enjoy the Mirror comments and trust the gov instead.Grin

ilovesooty · 14/09/2018 07:58

No I'm not heartened by people sticking their fingers in their ears and refusing to acknowledge potential consequences.

Confusedbeetle · 14/09/2018 08:03

Thanks you to op and amandah . Mn is deffo anti Brexit. I have never heard so much anti Brexit anywhere. For the record I dont hate foregners either. I love Europe and hate the Eu. An example is the agricultural poiicy that favours rich landowners. Of course there are a lot of unknowns but the flavour on MN is unbelievable. I have heard more logic in Italy and Germany. No I dont like Trump or Farage. It would be interesting to know all your locations. Perhaps if you met a few Leavers you might see that we dont fit into your stereotype. Too much abuse

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 14/09/2018 08:04

My DB works in the NHS - they are haemorrhaging EU workers and have been since 2016. That will only get worse

This, up to three years to replace those workers

Ive no idea whats going to happen...but i do think the 'talking the country down' is one dumbest phrases to come out of this whole business

Fall of the roman empire....well if they hadnt talked the country down it would have been ok Sad

blurredspeech · 14/09/2018 08:10

I'm loving the way they hid 30% house price drop warning from Bank of England behind mobile phone charges if we get no deal.

That will be great! Houses are extremely overpriced and cause (mainly young people) to have to pay out so much more of their wages to huge mortgages or huge rents. More money will flow into the actual economy if people have more money left over to spend after housing.

blurredspeech · 14/09/2018 08:12

Also, yes, EU workers pay tax but they also put a lot of pressure on things like housing, the NHS, schools and of course many of them are reliant on top up benefits such as tax credits and housing benefits because they either work part time or they earn so little that what they pay in tax is dwarfed by what they get in benefits and what they cost the country in healthcare, education etc.

WhirlyGigWhirlyGig · 14/09/2018 08:17

Heartened? Really? I'm not sure we were reading the same comments then. The ones I read were mainly more Brexiteer drivel, the same drivel that I've been subjected to for over two years. I don't want to listen to it anymore, I'd quite like you all to actually say "I'm sorry, you Remoaners were right and we shouldn't have voted for this big, sorry pile of steaming shite".

blurredspeech · 14/09/2018 08:18

Why not;
a) train British workers so the country doesn't have to import people to do jobs

and
b) pay them decent wages so that they can afford to live without being reliant on benefit top ups that all come from other taxpayers.

The main beneficiaries of mass immigration are the rich who get cheap labour which suppresses wages for the working classes (all subsidised by other taxpayers via benefits) and asset rich landlords and homeowners whose house prices and rents go up in value due to increased demand. Very few working class people benefit from increased competition for jobs, housing, healthcare etc.

LittleLionMansMummy · 14/09/2018 08:21

Hi op. Smile

Can you give a few examples of how the UK will be better out of the EU? Actually economically and socially stronger as a result of us leaving? Remainers are criticised for not listening to well informed arguments, so it would really help to understand what it is, specifically, that will improve as a result.

Thanks.

P3onyPenny · 14/09/2018 08:21

Unfortunately Blurred homeowners will still need to pay the mortgage off they took out before prices tumble. It could have massive consequences for a lot of people which will impact on interest rates( up), the economy and jobs on top of the jobs we’re already losing. Happy days. Youngsters will need jobs to get a mortgage

Ifailed · 14/09/2018 08:26

There are 220 comments. That leaves 66,570,000 who didn't comment, hardly 'most people'. The Mirror article is reporting on the Brexit Governments own projections if there is no deal, apparently it's the Brexit supporters who are now responsible for 'Project Fear'.

Nikephorus · 14/09/2018 08:29

Given that no-one knows what will happen, surely it's best to be positive while ensuring that you have measures in place to cope with a reasonable worse-case scenario. Exactly the same as you should with any situation in life. Being negative and thinking that the sky is falling won't change the outcome, but it will make you feel crap the whole time AND potentially impact on your health. So be cheerful, look on it as another one of life's little adventures, and don't forget to pack ginger beer and a packet of sarnies Grin (and a bone for Timmy) It'll be fine.
