I'm in bed. Feel wide awake, alternatively hot then cold. I've got leg cramps, greasy hair (wtaf), I feel really grumpy. Can't relax. I know ill wake up again in about 3 hours, drenched in sweat with restless legs. It's totally shit.

Mine hasmt got worse exactly. The hit flushes aren't too bad tbh but the non sleeping is a bugger

I've found the best thread ever. Three years post menopause. It doesn't get better friends.

I have done cold turkey. Tried HRT and it sent me into a horrendous depression and put my body back into monthly bleeds with the excruciating pain that I spent years in.

The hot flushes still stalk me. Last night dripping. Then cold, the leg cramps. Me and DH aren't speaking as we simply aren't getting on and he's a twat of the highest order.

I have gotten through with a fan at nights. I walk my dog for two hours per day. I drink one bottle of wine per week. I still smoke. It keeps me sane.

One of the women at work asked me if I could leave my menopause at home. Of course love, I'll give it a days annual leave.

Grrrr.

Miladymilord · 14/09/2018 11:11

Oh and I have no sex drive. Poor dh.

I'll be on HRT forever - forget the "couple of years" comment. It's the best. And at night for cramps, take a teaspoon of magnesium powder in half a glass of tonic water. Works a treat. Good luck !

Marylou2 · 14/09/2018 11:12

Oh me too. On HRT and it does help particularly with itching skin and joint pain. Sick of not being able to sleep and feeling tearful though. Got up in the night for an hour and DH always asks why I’m up as though it’s a personal affront to him. Just fuck off, it’s the menopause,I don’t want to explain again.

Miladymilord · 14/09/2018 11:14

Dh got affronted about me getting up in the night. I said I can either put the light on at 3.30 am and read or I can decamp to the sofa. He doesn't say anything now

I take sage, red clover, black cohosh and menopace, one of those is definitely stopping the hot sweats which I had during the day, so awful. And sopping wet pillow sweats at night, no urge for sex at all, and bloody awful insomnia. That last is still an issue. I never had restless legs but I do use Epson salts in the bath and they help with this. Only thing is I don't know which one is working! Hmm

ShowOfHands · 14/09/2018 11:16

My Mum had a hysterectomy at 46 which started the menopause. She's 63 now and STILL suffering. HRT helped for years but she's no longer allowed it. They tried anti-depressants recently. Still no help.

I'm dreading it.

juneau · 14/09/2018 11:50

My mum has just been 70 and she suffers with night sweats STILL! She has some cold pads which she puts in the fridge during the day and says they have been her saviours through the hot weather this summer. Why she doesn't just buy a fan for her bedroom, I don't know.

HerbWoman · 14/09/2018 12:07

If you are taking sage tablets and have a decent sized sage bush in your garden, you're paying for something that you're growing for free - make an infusion of the leaves to drink. (You might need to raid your friends' and neighbours bushes if you only have a small one!)

There seems to be some research (small studies) that indicate that sage is helpful, but I don't have access to the whole articles.

MrsGrindah · 15/09/2018 19:29

Can I ask if anyone else experiences cramps without getting their period? I think I’m still in peri but missed a couple of periods. Keep getting cramps and think “ here we go” but nothing...

ChairyPoppins · 15/09/2018 19:39

In my fourth year of hysterectomy induced menopause due to cancer. Can’t take HRT. The heat is the worse. I’m so hot all the time, sweat drips down my face and my hair is like weeds. I take starflower and sage. Summer was utterly miserable. But I am very very lucky that the cancer was found in time.

ChairyPoppins · 15/09/2018 19:42

I buy melatonin for the sleeplessness. 5mg works but 10 is even better.

myidentitymycrisis · 15/09/2018 19:49

i have been taking magnesium powder on my breakfast for the past 6 weeks and it has helped with the cramps quite significantly.

I have been on soya milk for 3 years, might go to the yoghurt as well.
I run and swim and eat lots of veg.

I still sweat at night, cant sleep for more than 4 hours and my brain no longer works. It feels like this has taken over my life.

Haisuli · 15/09/2018 20:00

45, dreadibg it. I've been getting UTIs that.must be something hormonal as.my period always makes it better. What will happen when I have no period??

Lostandfound81 · 15/09/2018 20:01

Those suffering and that can take it.... I would urge you from the bottom of my heart to get yourself on HRT

To say that is has improved my quality of life would be an understatement

I sleep
I don’t sweat
I don’t have the dreaded brain fog
I don’t feel down

I’m back to living rather than enduring.

Lauren0rder · 15/09/2018 20:01

Oh lordie.....

I’m 47 and think I may be on the brink of menopause.......

Poor DH......

No libido
Brain fog to the point of possible Alzheimer’s......can’t decide if I’m losing my mind or DH is gaslighting me.

But no hot sweats
And if I take Nytol, I can sleep through the night.

MrsGrindah · 15/09/2018 20:06

I just hope I don’t need HRT. I was so sick of pumping myself with chemicals every month when on the pill. V relieved when DH has the snip so really don’t want to have to go back on any firm of hormone treatment again.

Lostandfound81 · 15/09/2018 20:08

I have the patch. No pills

BestIsWest · 15/09/2018 20:09

I’m a month into HRT and it seems to be making no difference. How long does it take?

Lostandfound81 · 15/09/2018 20:11

Meant to be 6-8 weeks until noticed and then 3-5 months until really feel difference

I felt a difference after 3 weeks

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 15/09/2018 20:13

Oh yes the hot flushes . Go from 'ok' to full on sweats in 6 seconds.

Waves of fatigue

Cramp - I got cramp while driving ! Had to pull the car over and stretch.

Memory goes to pot.

And in the morning I smell like woodshavings or sawdust Shock ( I don't sleep in a pine box or nothing) !

AmICrazyorWhat2 · 15/09/2018 20:17

Mid-40s and I'm having my first signs this month- a weird, off-cycle period and feeling constantly over-heated.

Ugh. Sad I'm going to thoroughly read this thread for tips!

Troels · 15/09/2018 20:22

I couldn't stand it anymore. I had itchy dry skin, a vag like a desert, no sex drive, hot flashes 24/7 couldn't sleep, exhausted, crabby. I started HRT first week in August, OMG I sleep I'm rested, I don't look like I've spent 10 years working the night shift, my skin stopped itching and Dh is now happy about the vag situation. My life has changed for the better.
