I'm in bed. Feel wide awake, alternatively hot then cold. I've got leg cramps, greasy hair (wtaf), I feel really grumpy. Can't relax. I know ill wake up again in about 3 hours, drenched in sweat with restless legs. It's totally shit.

Im avoiding HRT for health reasons.
Tried the lady magnet, not really much difference but my sister swears by it.
Struggling to exercise as once my body temperature rises, I can't regulate it down so I end up like a red faced Thomas the fucking tank engine after about 5 minutes. Starting Pilates to see if that is different. Rage and memory loss are insane - last year I bid an extortionate amount at a auction for something I didn't want just because I was in the throes of a rage (long story, which is only now becoming funny 😁)
Sadly the only thing that makes a big difference to the flushes and night sweats is no alcohol so I've drastically cut down.
But based on this I'll try Sage and Starflower oil - I'm an Advertisers dream for herbs and oils at the moment!!

ChangoMutney · 14/09/2018 01:01

My flushes were unbearable, i can't take HRT, I tried every herbal thing going some worked for a while but would stop after a couple of months. My GP prescribed a low dose of anti depressant, the first one made no difference, but I tried a different one and was back to being me again. No flushes, no fog etc.

BIWI · 14/09/2018 06:41

Seriously - those of you still suffering - cut out as much sugar, and as many carbs as you can. (Make sure you're getting your carbs from vegetables and salad instead of bread/grains/pasta/rice/sugar).

It will really help you.

BitOfFun · 14/09/2018 06:48

Somebody please explain the lady magnet to me!

Miladymilord · 14/09/2018 07:48

Love this thread. Biwi no carbs makes no difference at all other than to help me lose weight!

Woke up at 1, 3.30,5.30 and 6.50.

Don't talk to me about THE RAGE omg I've had one awful embarrassing incident that came out of nowhere! I'm normally quite chill. Honestly it's so embarrassing I couldn't even write it down. It freaked me out so much I am avoiding people! As long as Im with my horses and dogs I'm fine!!

LOL!

I agree alcohol is the worst, sadly. Its my birthday next week and I'll have a drink then but other than that I'm basically giving up. Hadn't had a drink for a month and it has helped a bit.

HRT

Honestly, the most wonderful invention on the planet

I’m 37! Low oestrogen due to very low weight. I had all the symptoms of menopause.

HRT for one month and I’m back in the land of the living.

Miladymilord · 14/09/2018 08:00

I have a GPS appointment in Monday and I can't bloody wait.

My mum used to bang on about how she ate healthily and never had hot flushes. Thought hrt was totally wrong, would give you cancer and that women should accept growing older. Looking back she was also a total loon who would pick fights with people in shops. Please don't let that be me!

LeftRightCentre · 14/09/2018 08:03

Try the HRT! I did. No more sweating, hot flushes and body odour. Happy days.

masma · 14/09/2018 08:05

I'm 26,I got tipped into early menopause a few months ago due to radiotherapy blasting my ovaries everyday for 6 weeks.

I had all these symptoms and I hated it I was really suffering and now I'm on HRT patches and they have all gone I feel back to normal again.

LakieLady · 14/09/2018 08:13

My menopause was really mild, but even I found the waking hourly feeling like I was on fire bloody intolerable. And why didn't anyone tell me that you feel fucking freezing when it subsides?

Brain fog and shit memory: still got that, 13 years after my last period. I swear I'm slipping striaght from menopausal brain fog into dementia without passing go. It's a struggle to remember what I was saying from the start of one sentence to the next.

They should never have equalised the pension ages, I'll be incapable of working by the time I get mine. I often forget the end of a sentence before I've even got to the middle.

Blobbyweeble · 14/09/2018 08:23

I'm 53, haven't had a period for three years and went on HRT at the beginning of the year because of the hot flushes and the lack of sleep. Waking up to fling the duvet off then waking up 30 minutes later because I was cold and repeat.....
HRT has been brilliant, sleep is not perfect but I work shifts so it won't be, but its a hell of a lot better.

notapizzaeater · 14/09/2018 08:44

I had ovarian cancer so the whole lot whipped out. My doctor told me I could only have the patches - which thank god have worked. I also take soy isoflavones and menopace plus tablets.

ChristmasFluff · 14/09/2018 09:01

Sleeping naked in silk sheets with an open window really did take away the worst of the flushes and sweating for me. Still do the 'throw the covers off, then wake up freezing' thing, but NO PERIODS has been such a benefit that I'd probably put up with all sorts for the joy of that.

janinlondon · 14/09/2018 09:05

I am in year seven of this. HRT was amazing but it fed the fibroids and so I cant now take it. I am probably looking at a complete hysterectomy if I want to go back on it....oh joy.

MinesaPinot · 14/09/2018 09:07

I'm 56, no periods for years and still have bouts of hot flushes/sweating, achy ovaries like I'm having a period, and achy breast pain.

Add to that achy legs, heartburn, and IBS and it's a wonder I get any rest at all.

I sound like a real catch don't I.......?

SoundofSilence · 14/09/2018 09:10

Brain fog, The Rage and so bloody hot at night here. DS2(5) sneaks into our bed most night, and as soon as he does, I grab the opportunity to leave my own bed and sleep in his on my own. DP is not impressed; I don't care.

Miladymilord · 14/09/2018 09:18

I'm going to save this thread it's brilliant.

Flowers to all those brave women who've come to the menopause early through cancer.

Yep. Feel like a sweaty bison every day.
I've morphed into a weird shape - one that no human clothes seem to cater for.
The stinky sweating is endless - can't believe the places I can sweat from. And what is the thinning hair about? But you could thatch a roof with my facial sproutings.
I get restless legs at night which usually involves me kicking OH up the bum loads because I have to keep flinging them around like uncooked sausages.
Insomnia is evil.
I'm behaving strangely. Went into meltdown about some marmite the other day - ended in my sad, salty tears and a ranty monologue. Kids backed out of the room.
I forget things all the time, important stuff and small stuff.
I can never think of the right word when I want it.
Flooding, cramps and 18 day periods with a 2 week break in between.
Male GP has spent 12 months fobbing me off but not any more, I need some HRT.
Flowers to all

Threewheeler1 · 14/09/2018 09:25

janinlondon
Oh no! HRT feeds fibroids?
That's a nightmare. Mine are big enough already. Was just going to ask for HRT - didn't realise that was a side effect.
Bugger, I wish there were some decent solutions for women rather than the all or nothing approach we currently get to chose from!
Hope things get better for you.

theredjellybean · 14/09/2018 09:26

Memory is completely fucked, literally have huge blank spaces, abdominal rolls, headaches and dry flat hair (last the worse as had lush bouncy curls).
And just feel sad.. Tearful and needy all the time.
And sleep is a distant memory.. If I can remember it at all.
I run five days a week, eat well, have great low stress job and financially secure...

Tried hrt.. Got sore boobs and more emotional.

Guess just got to feel knackered and cry a lot for few years

Miladymilord · 14/09/2018 09:27

I am not being fobbed off tomorrow. I have deliberately asked for a female gp and have had to wait three weeks to see her.

I demand to have some hrt! (in a Withnail voice)

I have had HRT, which helped for a while. I suffer from hot flushes that leave me soaked in sweat from head to toe about 20 times a day, restless legs, phantom period pains, feeling that I can't cope. The greasy hair, lack of sleep. Bloated gut that makes me look pregnant. Acid reflux. I tried oil of evening primrose, no joy. Milkthistle, no joy. Started drinking apple cider vinegar once in the morning and just before bed and sleeping without pillows. It has really helped with all symptoms. Look up apple cider vinegar for rebalancing hormones.

juneau · 14/09/2018 09:33

This thread is utterly depressing - I'm 44 and have all this to come Sad

janinlondon · 14/09/2018 09:33

I have actually been referred to the Guys Hospital Menopause clinic as the GP is at a loss to know what else she can try with me....but I am pretty sure theyre going to say whip it all out and have a nice fireplace put in instead....
