I'm in bed. Feel wide awake, alternatively hot then cold. I've got leg cramps, greasy hair (wtaf), I feel really grumpy. Can't relax. I know ill wake up again in about 3 hours, drenched in sweat with restless legs. It's totally shit.

I'm with ye. Hate the hot flushes and disturbed sleep. I'm not allowed hrt so I'll be trying some of yer other suggestions. Has anybody tried the lady magnet?

LittleCandle · 13/09/2018 22:44

The night sweats and hot flushes are vile. I was on HRT but my already high BP shot up to stroke level. The down side, the rest of the time I am freezing cold, as I have no thyroid. I go from shivering to boiling in a nanosecond, which is vile. I already had problems with choosing suitable clothing and it has become exponentially worse in the last 9 months!

Miladymilord · 13/09/2018 22:46

I can't be in a cold supermarket. It makes my teeth chatter.

BetterYou magnesium spray is excellent for restless legs.
Perimenopausal symptoms do not go on forever and they get better towards the end.

Miladymilord · 13/09/2018 22:51

I am not perimenopausal. I am 52 and haven't had a period for over a year. I am in menopause

The things that really helped me (I'm 59 now and through the other side!) were taking Boots Menolieve, eating a low carb diet, in the main, cutting down on alcohol and caffeine. (I was less successful on the last two!)

I didn't seek reduction in menopause symptoms through low carbing - but I realised when I was on a holiday that was truly off piste and very high carb, that my symptoms were particularly exaggerated.

I can't/don't want to take HRT as my mum died from advanced breast cancer, and had been taking it. So it was a great comfort to know that what I ate/drank could help reduce/eliminate the symptoms.

My hot flushes and night sweats switched off compacted a very short time of starting hrt.

Thankfully I haven’t had many other symptoms. Other than the RAGE. But that’s reasonable, no? Grin

MatildaTheCat · 13/09/2018 23:08

Completely, not compacted. Confused

iamme21 · 13/09/2018 23:09

Oh god yes, the RAGE!!!

notapizzaeater · 13/09/2018 23:19

I couldn't sleep for the restless legs, I'd often thought it was a silly condition till I got it ! Hrt cured that

Babyroobs · 13/09/2018 23:19

Horrible isn't it. I've always been fat but now have a huge bloated tummy, itching all over , skin on my abdomen is sore an broken , joints aching and I can barely bend down.

UpstartCrow · 13/09/2018 23:21

I look like a pear with zits.

Oddcat · 13/09/2018 23:24

Suffering here too . Waking up regularly to 'duvet flap' . Anyone else's memory fucked ?

starbrightlight · 13/09/2018 23:27

I'm 61 and not through the other side at all. I've tried HRT several times when the flushes became unbearable (like a furnace, every few minutes non stop) but I it made me very emotional, like bad PMT bordering into depression so I never persisted long term. I really wish I could as I can take oestrogen only so the supposed harmful effects are minimal if they exist at all.

I would take it forever for my bones and skin and teeth and all round health and wellbeing if it didn't make me so miserable.

Lilyhatesjaz · 13/09/2018 23:27

Eating soya can help and it's not too expensive I used to eat the yogurt when my symptoms were really bad and it helped a bit.

passwordfailure · 13/09/2018 23:35

My DM is in her 80s and has been prescribed HRT pessaries. Recurrent UTIs caused by thinning skin. I thought I would just stitch a CLOSED sign on my knickers and be done with it.

Itsmeaga1n · 13/09/2018 23:37

I can't sleep either, wake up hot or cold, can't get back to sleep. And can't take hrt due to migraines Angry I hate being a woman.

Lallybroch · 13/09/2018 23:42

Does anyone else have problems with brain fog? I find it really difficult to feel engaged, memory is awful.

MadameGazelleIsMyHomegirl · 13/09/2018 23:54

Yes terrible brain fog. I used to be sharp, clever and had an excellent memory. Now I’m like a slug who’s taken a mogadon.

Katedotness1963 · 14/09/2018 00:07

I haven’t really had symptoms other than insomnia. A four hour night is a good night these days. I wonder if PCOS and it’s symptoms for my entire adult life have disguised menopause symptoms? Anyone else?

73kittycat73 · 14/09/2018 00:09

I get cramps, very greasy hair, restless legs, lethargy and the dreaded hot flushes. I get anything from 2-3 + a day. Oh yes, the delightful insomnia too. I can't take HRT or anything hormone related as I had a surgical menopause due to cancer of the womb lining.

starbrightlight · 14/09/2018 00:09

Me too to brain fog. And memory problems. I'm seriously beginning to think I'm in the very earliest stages of dementia. My mum's took over 10 years to become really noticeable and I reckon that 10 years from now I'll be like she was. I'm not getting any better, that's for sure. I used to be so sharp and remember every tiny detail of everything - what was said when and by who. Now it's all a bit of a blur.

SecretWitch · 14/09/2018 00:22

I’m 53, almost to the one year and no period. I am dealing with itchy, crawly skin, weirdly greasy hair, God awful food cravings and insomnia. My md gave me some nice sleeping pills. I’ve increased my exercise and really tried to decrease my sugar but god damn it, I want chocolate, donuts, and ice cream.

Brambleboo · 14/09/2018 00:23

I went into instant menopause after having my ovaries & fallopian tubes removed at 40. The flushes and sweats were almost instantaneous! It was was awful. Took years trying different forms of HRT, eventually working with a gynaecologist, before I finally found the right one for me. I still get a flush or two a day but the swears are almost gone now. I put loads of weight on in the meantime, too. Ugh.

I must say, though, that my temperament has been so much better since the menopause hit. I was a slave to the fluctuating hormone levels previously, but I feel like a different, much calmer, woman now. I'd far rather be menopausal than still be menstruating any day. No question.
