I'm in bed. Feel wide awake, alternatively hot then cold. I've got leg cramps, greasy hair (wtaf), I feel really grumpy. Can't relax. I know ill wake up again in about 3 hours, drenched in sweat with restless legs. It's totally shit.

Yes the blood tests vary hugely within the same day so are of limited use

ILoveAllRainbows · 12/10/2018 13:46

Not sure if it has already been mentioned above, but I have started eating small amounts of probiotics (sauerkraut) as it is supposed to help with the menopause.

I am also going to try to make my own kefir, but don't want to overdo things so will leave it for a few months.

ILoveAllRainbows · 12/10/2018 13:47

I should have said unpasturised sauerkraut.

weegiemum · 12/10/2018 14:59

I've been peri for about 10 years, and have just got a (spectacularly heavy) period after fourteen months of nothing (I'm 47). Early menopause runs in the family. And today I'm hot-flushing and sweating and have 3 huge spots on my chin. Blood tests 6 months ago had me pretty firmly in the menopause zone, but this to-img and fro-ing has happened before, so I start counting at 1 again!

wink1970 · 12/10/2018 15:21

I'm in my 4th week of HRT patches and have just had a (very light) period. Sleeping so much better. The initial bloating has gone, though I have been taking aloe vera tablets at night.

SkiMum99 · 18/10/2018 20:40

Happy National Menopause Day! We did something at work which was a first for us I think, great discussion on nutrition which was interesting. I really need to get better at that as I eat too much sugar and it’s not helping.

BestIsWest · 18/10/2018 21:08

I’m 2 months into the patches, no periods for a few years and have also had some bleeding. Think I will have to phone the Doc.

MrsRespoDad · 18/10/2018 22:14

I've suddenly developed bladder problems. Now I see the need for Tena Lady FML.

ILoveAllRainbows · 19/10/2018 08:53

SkiMum99

What nutritional advice did they give you?

SkiMum99 · 19/10/2018 10:26

Off the top of my head reduce red meat, work on a Plant based diet lots of veg, seeds, nuts, proper fats good. Magenisim and red clover supplements helpful. Mediation and exercise to reduce stress and talked about the effect of cortisol on the body from stress and it’s impact on hormone regulation. ie reduce it to feel healthier. Soya from non-GMO sources. Reduce alcohol & caffeine. No rocket science in there just good healthy living. My sister has found by being really strict on diet it helped her symptoms a lot. Me I struggle to be super healthy so making small changes here and there to help and trying not to beat myself up if I eat an extra biscuit that I shouldn’t ...

SkiMum99 · 19/10/2018 10:27

I’m off to buy magnesium supplement again..

Does anyone get very dry eyes? They are so bad they wake me up. Optician just said get some drops from Boots. I have tried loads of different drops. Joints are also painful

I am peri. I am taking various things - red clover- which I think helps with moods but not physical symptoms.

MacavityTheDentistsCat · 22/10/2018 18:05

@Jewel Yes, my eyes are bone dry too and it's so painful. The thing which has helped is getting a gel pad that I warm in hot water, pop in a special sleeve and then lay over my eyes for 10 minutes. I was a bit sceptical when the optician first recommended it but I have actually felt some improvement.

Upsy1981 · 22/10/2018 21:38

I've just randomly found this thread but found it really interesting. I'm 36 nearly 37 but I've been to the doctors last Friday with chronic tiredness, neck and back aches and pains, restless legs, particularly just before bed when especially tired, keep forgetting things, was convinced I had early onset dementia over the Summer. I have always been anxious and I have struggled with sleeping anyway in the past. I still wake frequently but (at present) I can get back to sleep which I can't always. I'm not usually too bad at night but my body is unable to regulate its temperature and I get a really hot red face out of the blue. I've been wondering about fibromyalgia or something but people have mentioned menopause to me and reading this thread has got me wondering again. But its too early isn't it? I'm on the pill so not really noticed any difference in periods.

ihatethecold · 22/10/2018 21:51

I’ve been taking hyaloronic acid supplements for joint pain ( hip bursitis)
It’s good for dry eyes also.
It’s also helping vaginal dryness which has been a bonus and was unexpected.

Have a google to see if you think it may help your eyes.

BestIsWest · 22/10/2018 22:01

Does the hyaloronic acid work? I also have hip bursitis (along with dodgy knees, Achilles’ tendonitis and shoulder problem)

BestIsWest · 22/10/2018 22:03

ihate which one do you take?

BringMeTea · 22/10/2018 22:26

Upsy Yes, that all sounds very peri. I started with lots of those symptoms late 30s. All rather grim sadly. Flowers

ILoveAllRainbows · 22/10/2018 23:09

BestIsWest

When do you get your shoulder problem? Is it when you are sitting down using a computer?

I have been standing up to use my computer for a few years now as I get a pain in my shoulder if I sit down.

jewel1968 · 22/10/2018 23:14

Thanks for tips. Will explore.

jewel1968 · 22/10/2018 23:20

Hyaloronic acid looks very promising. Will give it a try. Thanks...

ihatethecold · 23/10/2018 10:32

I am using this one. The pain is reduced in my hip. Not using many painkillers at the mo which is a bonus.

Esspee · 23/10/2018 15:59

It is so simple......menopause is a result of lacking oestrogen. HRT replaces the oestrogen your body is no longer producing.

If you were lacking anything else for your body to function properly you would take a replacement (as an example you would take iron tablets if your iron levels were low).
I've been on oestrogen (implant) since my hysterectomy nearly 30 years ago and will be on it for ever. Life without oestrogen is shit. I tried and thankfully my specialist is one of the top in the field. Suffer if you want to but remember it is optional for most of us.

QueenoftheNights · 23/10/2018 16:21

I agree with espee.

I find it unbelievable that only 1: 10 women use HRT when it can usually sort all of this and is less risky for cancer than drinking more than 1 unit a day, being a stone or so or more overweight and not eating healthily/ exercising.

There are very very few women who cannot use it for medical reasons. Sadly the flawed research of 22 years back and the hyperbole (negative) in the press have left a mark that won't budge.

florafawna · 23/10/2018 16:37

Been through it - tiresome! Flowers
