To ask you to help me decipher this name?

Dd has come home from reception today and has made a new best friend called “Whiskers”.
“Whiskers” is definitely a girl and she has yellow hair.
I did ask if she was tabby but apparently not!!!
According to DD “Whiskers” is 100% her name.
Please help me decipher what it could be, as I can’t ask her what games she has played with “Whiskers” today whilst keeping a straight face.

Whitney?

Brownieb · 11/09/2018 15:52

Whiticker?

onceuponakitchensink · 11/09/2018 15:53

Ooohhhh perhaps. DD saying no to Whitney though.
Haven’t heard the name Whitney mentioned amongst parents either.

Mishka?

onceuponakitchensink · 11/09/2018 15:54

Is Whittaker a girls name?
Sounds very close to Whiskers though.

Mishka is a good call. Dd still saying no though.
Surely there cannot be a girl who’s real name is Whiskers?

You need to ask her form teacher!

Ski4130 · 11/09/2018 15:56

This reminds me of my dd's friend at playgroup, who was 100% most definitely called Christmas Tree according to dd. Her name was actually Holly!

Jessbow · 11/09/2018 15:57

Kitty? LOL!

onceuponakitchensink · 11/09/2018 15:58

I had a friend who I called “trainer” when I was her age.
Her actually name “Katrina” but she had moved from London and had a very strong east end accent!
Just clarified with dd, “is her name Misha, or Mishka or something?”
“No, she only has one name, Whiskers” 🤷‍♀️

I would look at the children's trays and pegs tomorrow to see if any of them look like they might fit the bill. If not at the end of the day ask the teacher who her new friend is. Explain she has been talking about them a lot and you would like to invite her on a playdate. Grin

Skyejuly · 11/09/2018 16:00

Misha?

Haworthia · 11/09/2018 16:01

I remember DD being at preschool taking about a naughty boy called Zam. It took me ages to figure out she meant Sam, so I’m afraid I’m no use to you Grin

You’ll have to update when you know the child’s actual name!

onceuponakitchensink · 11/09/2018 16:01

We don’t get to go in with them, so I can’t sneak a peak at trays!
I hope the teacher isn’t on here, as I will definitely out myself if I mention Whiskers to her!
Maybe I’ll just ask who DD has been playing with and if she’s settling in ok!

Is she the type to have an imaginary friend? Could her new friend have a nickname?

onceuponakitchensink · 11/09/2018 16:03

Honestly my DD is awful with names.
She had a friend called Lucy in preschool and I knew the surname was “Mc” something, but every time I asked what Lucy’s name was she would tell me “Lucy McStuffin” Helpful right?!

PolkerrisBeach · 11/09/2018 16:03

Get her to describe her new friend.

Let's hope she doesn't say that she is very furry, purrs a lot and has a collar round her neck.

SLoisachtal · 11/09/2018 16:04

I was going to say Mishka, but it's a boy's name - or a diminutive of a boy's name - Mikhail.

onceuponakitchensink · 11/09/2018 16:08

Ok, so Whiskers was wearing a blue dress with a butterfly zip (aka a pinafore).
She has yellow hair which is short and curly?

Sounds like you need to speak to her teacher and look at inviting her on a playdate. Smile Either that or if her birthday is coming up shortly you could ask for a list of first names. Failing all this Reception teachers normally hand out a list of names for Christmas cards in December if you can wait that long. Grin

Gribbie · 11/09/2018 16:12

My DC was convinced someone was called “cake”. She was “Kate” Grin

always2ndbest · 11/09/2018 16:13

My son went to school with a girl called meow and a boy named rhubarb. After studying the pegs meow became Miele and rhubarb was in fact rheuben!

whyayepetal · 11/09/2018 16:16

This takes me back to my nursery school days (many decades ago.....) when I came home having made friends with a young lad rejoicing in the name of "Fiddly". Turns out he was Findlay, but had a cold that day Grin

Grrreeeeat · 11/09/2018 16:16

Winifred
Winter
Willemina
Winona
Willa
Wilma
Wisteria Grin

onceuponakitchensink · 11/09/2018 16:18

I know that it will end to being a very obvious name... but WHAT?!
Mishka?
Misha
Linda?
Misty?
Misla?
Clutching at straws now!
