Dd has come home from reception today and has made a new best friend called “Whiskers”.
“Whiskers” is definitely a girl and she has yellow hair.
I did ask if she was tabby but apparently not!!!
According to DD “Whiskers” is 100% her name.
Please help me decipher what it could be, as I can’t ask her what games she has played with “Whiskers” today whilst keeping a straight face.

My DS was playing with a little girl called Leather, I asked her and she agreed that was her name. Olivia btw.

vampirethriller · 12/09/2018 01:41

I was convinced a friend of mine when I was about 6-7 was called Sphere. Her name was Sophia.

Gersemi · 12/09/2018 01:53

DD wrote about her new friend, Annerstayzeeyar. Well, at least it was reasonably phonetic.

PoorlyParented · 12/09/2018 02:27

When I was at playschool I had a friend I insisted was called 'Raysus'. Her name was actually Wendy so how the fuck I got the word 'Raysus' from 'Wendy' I'll never know! 😂

When I was little I remember asking my mum and sister what was that girls name? "You know, that one at school. You know!!!" Then I said "it's like cough". They wracked their brains. No, nothing. No girl's name is anything like cough. Then I went "I've got it! Denise!" They were ConfusedI said "Denise. Sneeze. Cough!"

Maybe her parents are chocolate lovers and her name is Wispa? [santa]

Xxalisoncxx · 12/09/2018 05:02

There was a boy in my daughters class she insisted was Elsem balm it was Mohammed subhan

aNutAboveTheBreast · 12/09/2018 05:24

DS's first friend in reception was called Question Mark. Took me a while to figure out it was actually Christian.

TitilatedOcelot · 12/09/2018 08:12

I remember my friend's little brother coming home from school very excited to tell us that his teacher's wife had had a baby boy and they'd decided to call him Fungus.

Turned out to be Fergus.

yumscrumfatbum · 12/09/2018 08:18

A new girl started in DD's class last year called "Balloon head". Turns out it was Elounid (not sure of the spelling). My Dad gave a lift to work to an Irish chap for years. His son was called Bran. My Dad met Bran some time later, he was actually called Brian!

NeedMoreSleepOrSugar · 12/09/2018 08:50

Dd has made a friend called Tom. Which is lovely, except for the fact that there are no children in her class called Tom. Turns out he's called Riley. No idea why she insists he's called Tom, but he answers to it now, so it looks like it's going to stick! Grin

PavlovaFaith · 12/09/2018 08:53

Anouska?
Vespa?

Ameteurmum · 12/09/2018 09:28

My son was forever talking about ‘obie’ and was insistent that the name was correct and there was definitely an obie at nursery. I looked at all of the pegs one afternoon and didn’t see anything even remotely close 🙈
Turns out it was O.B because there were so many Olivia’s they used initials to tell them apart - I think just among staff but my son is such a nosy Parker he obviously picked up on it! 🙈

Ski4130 · 12/09/2018 09:51

Ameteurmum - my eldest dc does actually have a friend called Obi!

neffall · 12/09/2018 10:10

My DS has just started secondary school and some girls have decided that he's called Geoffrey. His name is nothing like that. Grin.

Skyejuly · 12/09/2018 18:04

My daughter calls a girl called Jamie, Gwendolyn.

Watto1 · 12/09/2018 18:21

When I was little, my friend from Edinburgh had a new sibling. She bounded up to me the first time he came with her to school in his pram and exclaimed "This is my baby brother Luke!" I said "Hello Luke". Their mum burst out laughing. The baby was called James. My friend had actually said "Here's my baby brother. Look!"

MarklahMarklah · 12/09/2018 18:24

DD was convinced that there was a boy at her nursery called "Workers" - said in a strong, Geordie accent.
I found out a year into her being there that he was, in fact, called Fergus.

MrsWhirly · 12/09/2018 18:28

My sons’s nursery friend was definitely called Banana, except she was actually called Arianna!

MrsWhirly · 12/09/2018 18:29

Also, the neighbours boy when he was very small told me through the garden fence that his new baby brother was called idiot. He was in fact Elliot!

user1471530109 · 12/09/2018 18:39

Not my DC but me....

In the neonatal unit with DD and was talking to another mum whose DD was born same day. We had been there for weeks (29 weeker s) but they didn't name the baby for a while.
I asked her her dd's name 3 times and each team i heard 'curry'. I couldn't ask again so just replied 'mmm that's nice' Confused

It was Chloe.

Pinky333777 · 12/09/2018 18:41

Just ask the teacher 😁

cunningartificer · 12/09/2018 18:56

Ah, I remember the child who told me his new baby brother was called Spot. Really convincing as well. Absolutely certain. Checked with mum...

In fact it was Mark.

ASqueakingInTheShrubbery · 12/09/2018 19:07

Same as MrsWhiskers here, DD came home from nursery talking about a boy called Idiot. I had to look on the coat pegs to figure out he was Elliott.

Extravagant · 12/09/2018 19:13

Mine came home talking about his friend Cow (turned out to be Cal).
